Sony Terminate Disney Spider-Man Deal

Sony Studios almost got bankrupted by fucking GHOSTBUSTERS. Its barely making money as is, and that's solely because of Spiderman. But no, Disney is totally in the right here to cut even deeper into those profits because it wants the rights back completely.
They need to make some good fucking movies then.

Not saying Disney aren't being assholes mind you.

The amount of people defending Disney blows my fucking mind. Motherfuckers, Disney is the biggest entertainment company on the planet and probably owns half of the movies ever made. What kind of faggot are you?

But no, Disney is totally in the right here to cut even deeper into those profits because it wants the rights back completely. They're totally not known for petty, vindictive decisions like completely fucking up Old Star Wars so utterly to only choice would be to make new shit was so George Lucas wouldn't get his .50 cents on a Luke Skywalker toy. Or by completely shuttering the Fantastic Four comic and toys to fuck over Fox. Or never make another new mutant so Fox couldn't ever add it into their movie line-up. I can't even imagine the shit they were threatening Netflix with if they didn't shutter their Marvel shows.

The only reason you should support Disney in anything is because you are getting money from them. Otherwise you remain neutral or shit on them.
TBF I'm pretty sure the Marvel shit is Ike Perlmutter's doing not Disney.

Perlmutter hasn't been involved with MCU negotiations since Disney separated Marvel Studios from Marvel Entertainment around the time they were planning Captain America: Civil War.

I'm referring to the idiotic pushing of the Inhumans at the expense of the X-Men and termination of the FF comics.

Disney doesn't give a shit about Marvel Comics/Entertainment.

Exactly. I'm not going to root for Sony just because they aren't Disney.

They have been floundering financially because they have been making terrible movies for years now. I think that's why so many people are flocking to Disney's side on this one, whether they are the assholes in this situation or not.

Again, I just want a good Spider-Man movie that is a continuation of Far From Home. If Sony can give me that, then I will be a happy camper. I'm not very optimistic about that outcome though, given Sony's track record.

I think it's best to root for the artists instead of the studios.

What I mean is that an IP belonging to a company isn't as important as the creative team that is going to make the next movie in the first place.

Sony has had some blunders with Spider-man, but to be fair, Sony has also handled Spider-man far better than Marvel in animated form. Spider-verse and Spectacular Spiderman are superior to anything Marvel has done in that front. The ps4 spiderman game funded by Sony was also a masterpiece.

And they did it not because "they are Sony", but because they were smart enough to hire the right people for the job. Same reason MCU spider-man movies have been good.

What's really at stake here is whether Spiderman will continue to be part of the MCU or not.

After 10+ years ... I am still salty and heartbroken about the cancellation of Spectacular Spider-Man ... Easily the worst thing about Disney buying Marvel. lol.

And the PS4 Spidey game, quite frankly, is a serious contender for being the best Spider-Man adaptation ever. Just leaving it at this: This effing game managed to not only make me cry, but it made me ugly cry. Harder than Avengers: Endgame did, I'll say that much.

And I will not forget the impact that those first two Sam Raimi Spidey movies had on me. That said, I will also never forget the rock bottom low I felt when I saw the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies. And Venom was just insulting, IMO.

Sony has given me many highs and many lows. I guess it's just a roll of the dice to see what comes next.

I agree with you actually, certainly there's still going to be a sequel to the PS4 game, right?

As melodramatic as they might be, I really do love the first two Raimi films. I think I might be in the minority in thinking that the two MCU Spider-man movies are a lot of fun, but nothing great. There’s a lot there to enjoy, but it does have an assembly line feel to it. Certainly better than any live action Spider-man movie since Spider-man 2, but far from the heights of the best MCU films or The Dark Knight.
This isn’t a particularly unpopular opinion. Most people agree the first two Raimi films are the gold standard when it comes to Spider-Man (particularly the second one, which is widely and deservedly seen as one of the best superhero films ever made). I personally don’t think the first one has aged that well, but it’s still a good film.

As for this, yeah, Sony were right to walk away. I’ll never say a multi-billion dollar company is an oppressed underdog in anything, but they’re not in the wrong here. I’m not a Disney A-Log (nor am I a devotee), but they were just being fucking greedy.

That said, this does kind of suck because I like the MCU Spider-Man and if nothing else, I was looking forward to closure for that cliffhanger at the end of Far From Home, which may not happen now (at least maybe not as originally intended). But as others have already pointed out, it’s highly likely this isn’t a done deal and they’ll work something out eventually. And even if they don’t, I guess having a Spider-Man film with the same cast but without the MCU baggage wouldn’t be such a bad thing.

I love how everyone is crying and saying that Sony needs Disney to make a good Spider-Man film. Sure Spider-Man Far From Home was imo the best live action Spider-Man movie so far but everyone seems to forget that Sony made the Raimi trilogy without Disney (with many people still considering Spider-Man 2 the best Spider-Man film of all time) and The Amazing Spider-Man is considered pretty good. The only bad Spider-Man movie so far is The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (which did have good moments and I would have loved to see a sequel). On top of this Sony made "Into The Spider-Verse" which was released last year and everyone seems to really like that one too. Some people even somehow enjoyed Venom and that made money despite negative reviews from critics (I recently brought it to rewatch it and it wasn't as bad as I remembered it being when I watched it in cinemas on release day, still a shit movie that I will probably only watch when Venom 2 is released and then after that I'll probably never watch it again but not as shit as I remembered it being).

Besides, with Disney acting like jews and asking for 50% when it's Sony financing these films you can't really blame Sony for wanting to take back the character.

I wouldn’t be shocked if fans are overreacting and if the deal goes through but not at the 50% Disney wants (50% financed and 50% profits). It’s possible that Disney is trying to flame the fires of discontent to pressure Sony into a more favorable deal. Their journalist shills are out in full force too.

Honestly, I am a bit concerned with Sony trying to make their own Spider-Man films again. They’re the same studio that made the Emoji movie after all. Still, I don’t blame them for breaking it off with Disney.

Disney was willing to settle for 25-30% of the profits

they were willing to do 50% of the financing (but were willing to go down to 30%)

Honestly this is the best take since Sony and Disney are both greedy corporations at the end of the day cut from the same cloth. The only ones to root for are the artists

And 30% is still fucking insane. Why is Disney not okay with merchandising and having Spidey be a selling point in their crossover flicks? It's because they're absolutely trying to work their way up to Sony having to sell the rights back. Sony is fucked if they do, fucked if they don't at this point due to Disney's monopoly.
