Well, they shouldn't face legal trouble but they should get some sort of punishment like anyone else would for not showing up to their job

That's already in place. The Republican representatives were being fined $500 a day for not showing up. They were apparently okay with that because the vote would have been so shit for their constituents.

In that case I still think it's a problem but it looks like the "solution" might be worse than said problem. Mea culpa.

You're asking for 500 dollars out of a political representative for undermining their state's democratic systems. I wouldn't even call that a slap on the wrist.

I’m not sure of the laws regarding fleeing the vote but if there’s nothing on the books then I think it’s a legitimate strategy. I guess the question is can you be re-elected when you’re known as the one who runs away?

Actually I agree. It’s called kidnapping when you force someone to go somewhere they choose not to.

And no side should try to do that to each other
I understand the sentiment but if they’re legally required to be there then they’re breaking the law and yes should be brought to “justice”, just to keep it simple. I think it’s a risk/reward type deal.

Except they weren't undermining any worse than the governor and her cronies in the Senate.

See, Oregon is supposed to be able to vote on bills and the like, except when there is a "State of Emergency", in which case the need for voting can be bypassed.

Ever since the voter defied the Senate and voted down one of their precious bills, they've been using bullshit "State of Emergency" legislation to avoid having anyone vote on these bills, since the mean ol' nasty Non-Portland/Salem/Eugenites, particularly those not on the I-5 Corridor or those South of Salem, keep voting their stupid shit down.

The GOP went "No, fuck this. You keep bypassing the voter and jacking up taxes. They're getting pissed. We're not going to be part of this shitshow where you make all the rules and everyone else just sucks a dick" and left.

Then the governor, who had pulled the same thing herself, the lying shiftless little cunt, sicced the State Patrol on them, like it's the fucking Soviet Union. The GOP told it's voters what was going down and threatened shit like "They better send bachelors, and a lot of them" as well as went in for protection from "militias" (Anyone not made of soy who might own a firearm) and the governor, being the hysterical hypocritical lying whore she is, screamed "OH EM GEE! RIGHT WING DEATH SQUADS!" and slammed down Salem, even though Portland's basically been run by Antifa for 2 years, showing that she's perfectly capable of protecting a city, just when it matters for her.

So, yeah, the democratic systems are being undermined, but I wouldn't say it's the GOP.

I sigh a little louder everytime I hear about US internal politics. Really sad to see what the founding fathers' creation has become, despite the groundwork still being there to fix it.

Breaking news: /r/The_Donald just got quarantined. How long until it gets banned?

It says the reasoning is promoting violence against police, and police officers, but I have not seenanything involving them. But, I'm also not seeing them supporting police, although the latter case appears to be the case. Just what is going on, has Reddit initiated more censorship after that Veritas thing?

Here's why E Jean Carroll was put forward even though anyone could have seen that would have been a bad idea AND why the DNC is pushing for reparations-nigga:

Even as cable news networks debate reports of the existence of a recording of President Donald Trump using a racial slur, a new poll from Rasmussen Reports says that the president's approval rating among African-Americans is at 36 percent, nearly double his support at this time last year.
"Today's @realDonaldTrump approval ratings among black voters: 36%," Rasmussen said in a tweet. "This day last year: 19%."
That is a staggeringly high number for a man who only won 8 percent of the African-American vote in 2016.
It is even more unexpected given the president's rocky history on matters related to race, including his current nasty feud with former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman, who has alleged Trump said "n word" on the set of the reality-TV show "The Apprentice."
Conservatives celebrated the poll as a sign of trouble for Democrats in upcoming elections.
Charlie Kirk, the founder of the conservative campus group Turning Point USA, cited the poll as evidence that Trump "is breaking the Democrat party as we know it."

"Trump’s Black Approval is at 36%," Kirk tweeted. "If I was a Democrat I would be terrified. And it’s only going to get worse for them."
A post on Fox News host Sean Hannity's blog cheered the apparent increase in support, which defies the "non-stop media attacks."
"The stunning data spells disaster for Democrats just months away from the 2018 midterm election, with the party’s base beginning to fracture as the economy roars to life under President Trump and the GOP-controlled Congress," the post says.

Trump frequently cites Rasmussen polls because they consistently show him with a higher approval rating than other polling organizations. For example, the Real Clear Politics average currently has Trump at 43 percent approval. But today's tracking poll from Rasmussen has the president at 49 percent. And while Trump has never topped 46 percent on the RCP average, Rasmussen has shown Trump with approval ratings as high as 59 percent.

But other polls have also shown an increase in support for Trump among African-Americans – albeit a more modest increase than Rasmussen found.
An NAACP poll released on Aug. 7 found that Trump's approval rating was at 21 percent. And a survey conducted by the Pew Research Center in June found Trump's approval rating among blacks at 14 percent.

Although a vast majority of African-Americans still disapprove of Trump's job as president, those numbers represent an improvement from his share of the vote in 2016. No Republican presidential candidate has done better than 12 percent among blacks since Bob Dole in 1996, according to Cornell University's Roper Center.

Trump proudly and frequently cites the current low unemployment figures among African-Americans as a reason voters from that demographic should support him. On Friday, Trump cited those numbers in a tweet in which he also said he was "honored" to have the support of musician Kanye West.
Fact check: Did Kanye West help Trump double his approval rating among blacks?
In May, Trump boasted to a crowd at a National Rifle Association convention that West's endorsement had doubled his percentage of African-American supporters after a Reuters poll showed it went from 11 to 22 percent in one week.
"Kanye West must have some power because you probably have saw I doubled my African-American poll numbers," Trump said. "Thank you, Kanye!"

Pretty sure 25% of the black vote going Trump is enough to kill any DNC candidate but I could be off on that number.

The run up to the election is going to be fucking insane. Propaganda like we've never seen before and Google is likely going to lose their ability to actually fuck with shit because if they get caught actually meddling in an election after the shit that is going on now they're over. They seem to think they are bigger than the US Gov because they haven't faced the IRS.

The IRS will face fuck every single employee from now until the end of time if they are let off their leash. Oh you have some money offshore Google? Hmm...seems like something may have been done wrong that's our money now. Fight us.

Edited for: I don't approve the IRS being used as a weapon though it would be funny to see them tear at Google. I don't approve of the IRS at all in fact.

The various exploits allowed in our democratic system have a rich history, but that doesn't mean they're necessarily good. It just means there's always someone to point to in the past when someone gets mad about you doing it.

One random representative should have no more power than their one vote. If they won't show up in an attempt to prevent the vote, it should just count as voting "present", plus whatever fine for literally not doing their damn job.

There's always going to be "civil disobedience" but calls to punish it when a republican does it and calls to grant a medal of honor when a democrat does it makes me think the people complaining now are full of shit, and will celebrate when a democrat does it next time.

To me, it's a complete subversion of our democratic republic. Just wipe the slate clean, no more of it starting.... NOW!

Of course, the minority party will complain, because they're the ones hurt by such a change. The majority party doesn't need filibusters or tricks, they have the majority vote. So when do you implement it?

By that metric, you end up with another problem.

Midnight voting. Not alerting the minority side, hell, not letting the majority side know when there's going to be a vote during supposed "Vacation" time.

Shit, you could have armed motherfuckers lock elected reps in a bathroom and hold the vote.

Then you could ram through anything you want.

You could saw "Fuck it!" and have Antifa block off the Senate and hold your vote even if there's only five of you in a Senate of 250 motherfuckers, and because everyone else voted "Present" because Antifa is rioting outside, you get your way.

Keep it the way it is, because the alternative, which is touched on already with the governor being able to sic the State Patrol on them, just opens the door for 3rd World strongman tactics.

That will not happen. The 2016 midterms were very clear about this: African-American approval ratings for Trump do not translate into actual votes for him or his causes, since I recall somewhere north of 90% of African-Americans voted for Democrats.

Really he said racist stuff yet you don't realease the tape or anything? Yeah I call bullshit. Also calling someone dumb has nothing to do with race. Re.tards re.tards every where. *sigh*

Hah! Someone responded.

/r/the_Donald has just been quarantined
To tell you the truth, nothing about that really surprises me. Like other big tech social media out there, Reddit has been for a while doing what they possibly can to suppress any right-wing speech along with other content that they find to be problematic in their eyes (such as cringe content and other stuff in general that happens to make fun of idiots and losers on the Internet). Though I'm surprised that it took this long anyway.

If anything this will at least force people to use other platforms that really doesn't give that much of a shit about content that may be offensive to others but it still is protected speech. Besides, Reddit has always been a neckbeard hugbox anyway.
