Disaster Shooting At STEM School Highlands Ranch (Colorado) - Two Shooters - One Dead, Eight Injured

One 18-year-old male was killed and eight students were hurt in a shooting at STEM School Highlands Ranch and police say “two shooters” were caught by officers running into the building. Both suspects are students at the school.

The school is located approximately 8 miles from Columbine High School in neighboring Jefferson County.

Denver7 reported that investigators believe at least one of the suspects stole the guns from the parents of the 18-year-old suspect,

Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock confirmed that at least two handguns were used in the shooting.

High-ranking sources told Denver7 Tuesday night that three handguns and a rifle were recovered but said the rifle was not used in the shooting

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. – One student is dead and eight others injured after two of their classmates opened fire at a suburban Denver STEM school on Tuesday.

Superintendent Thomas S. Tucker said in a letter to parents that STEM School Highlands Ranch, a public charter school with more than 1,850 students in kindergarten through 12th grade, will be closed for the remainder of the week.

"This is a terrible event," Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock said. "This is something that nobody wants to happen in their community."

Kendrick Castillo, 18, was identified Wednesday as the lone fatality, the sheriff said.

One suspect is a "female juvenile," police said after originally identifying the teen as male. The other was identified by police as Devon Erickson, 18.

The difference between the adolescent brain and the adult brain cannot be overstated. Have you ever remembered some extremely dumb, reckless shit you did as a teen that your adolescent brain totally failed to grasp the seriousness of at the time and get hit with the realization in your adult brain that if you'd been caught, your life probably would have taken a very different direction, possibly ruined? I have, and I wasn't even a 'bad kid'. A teen mass shooting or slöndermön stabbing is just taking that impaired ability for judgment and foresight to the next level.
I think it's easy to forget just how dumb and totally disconnected from reality/consequences teenagers can be. It can be difficult to remember how differently we thought as kids compared to now because the changes happen so gradually over time. Add mental illness and family problems into the mix and these are the results you may get. I'm sure a thousand other factors could be pinned down as well, including but not limited to: the behavioral and cognitive impacts of instant gratification via technology on kids who have never known life without, diminished real-world social bonds, increasingly low-trust society

It's been holding the #1 or #2 spots on CNN's site all day, with at least 8-10 stories lined listed. MSNBC has memory-holed it, which I've noticed is something they tend to do quicker than almost every other outlet. ABC has given it one line, one link. CBS coverage not too bad. Fox News has a cornucopia of Colorado Shooting coverage, of course.

MSNBC though! They are consistently the shittiest news outlet in the US. They regularly make CNN look good. Consider that horrifying fact.

I do agree with this to a certain extent. Having unprotected sex, driving fast, doing dope, fighting, and stealing things are more likely to be a consequence of the term brain. Shooting up a school is not a consequence of the teen brain, it's a consequence of the extremely mentally ill.
Let's not act like adults have not done this as well because they have(mass shootings). This is a consequence of not having any real empathy, which is something that is supposed the be developed at a very young age and is seen in autism and other neurological derangements. These terms will wine and moan about how they've seen the light, and they may even feign remorse a few weeks from now, but they merely feel bad that they are trapped in a cell.

Here's my take, because I'm sure you are all dying to hear it. I think you are 100% correct that we as a society treat people differently with respect to this. It is verified fact that white males are predominantly the culprits, though. I absolutely don't think that all white males should be treated as terrorists or badly, but I think that every time this happens we have to take an objective look at the cause. PL time, get ready for it, I'm a lefty from the depths of hell and I fucking hate guns. However, I'm not against anyone owning them. I'm from the south FFS. There's so much more to this than guns + white boys = bad. We have got to figure out this missing variable. It's just unacceptable at this point.

Unless the stats have drastically changed, last time I looked at the the weird thing about mass shootings is that they are almost exactly proportional. i.e. Society is 80% white? So shooters are 80% white. Society 10% black? So are shooters. etc (may not be actual numbers, just using those as hypothetical)

I agree that's what's fueling it, but this shit didn't happen when I was a kid. I didn't have to go to school even considering this possibility. It's like people have just gone haywire.
