Law Charlottesville’s Confederate statues are war monuments: judge - They cannot be removed. Almost like we have a legal process for solving contentious issues

Virginia circuit court has ruled the monuments at the center of the riots in Charlotesville are monuments of war and thus protected by state law. The city acted improperly in their removal and must return them to their place.

Statues in Charlottesville of Confederate generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson are war monuments protected by state law, a Virginia judge has ruled.

The decision comes nearly two years after three people were killed at the “Unite the Right” white nationalist rallyafter the city of Charlottesville voted to remove the statue of Lee.

Circuit Court Judge Richard E. Moore said the way the statues made people feel did not change the fact they paid homage to the Civil War heroes.

“While some people obviously see Lee and Jackson as symbols of white supremacy, others see them as brilliant military tacticians or complex leaders in a difficult time,” Moore claimed in his ruling, as reported by the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

“I believe that the defendants confused and conflated what the statues are with the intentions of motivations of some involved in erecting them.”

In the nine-page decision, Moore also ruled it was illegal for municipalities to remove the statues without permission from the state.

The decision strikes a major blow to the Charlottesville City Council who voted to remove the statue of Lee in early 2017.

Former city official Don Gathers, who served as chair of the commission that first called for the statues to be relocated, disagreed with Moore’s ruling.

“Just because something is legal, doesn’t mean it’s right or it’s moral,” Gathers told CNN. “I’m fearful what this has done is given the vile evilness that descended upon us in August of 2017 to come back.”

Protester Heather Heyer, 32, was killed and 19 more were injured when a man drove his car into the meeting of white nationalists and right-wing groups in Charlottesville in August 2017.

Two Virginia patrol troopers were also killed in a helicopter crash while assisting in public safety efforts.

The city covered the statues of Lee and Jackson with black tarps while it mourned the three deaths but Moore in February 2018 ruled they had to be removed.

So exactly why can local governments remove memorial statues and then you wait 3 years later for a judge to go... "uh wait you shouldn't have done that" so the protests and everything was a complete waste of time.

I'm guessing it's a mixture of bureaucracy and waiting for the tensions surrounding the Heyer death to blow over. You just know this judge would have antifa and the media crawling up his ass if he'd done this within a month of Charlottesville.

Protests usually are a waste of time. They're like political cosplay. Fun to watch from the sidelines, but absolutely meaningless.

Yeah. This is like saying "No, I didn't murder that dude when I shot him through the brain! It was the fact that his heart stopped beating that killed him!"

Its your textbook eggshell skull situation. It doesn't matter if a person of a healthy weight would've survived the hit, you were unlucky enough to strike the one person so grossly obese that any trauma, no matter how slight, would've caused her heart to explode.

Did anyone find out why that Helicopter crashed in the middle of all the chaos? That also struck me as the weirdest part about that day, next to the lighting fast reaction of the politicians to it (though that could be easily explained as most DC politicians living and retiring in the old dominion).
The helicopter crash part of that day was effectively memory holed and swamped by photos of the Dodge Challenger. Nobody cared about some state troopers dying in a crash until the media could use it to inflate a death toll and that's also because it wasn't even caused by the event. An NTSB report said it wasn't as a result of a mid air collision, and in 2010 the same aircraft also crashed. The cause then was faulty maintenance, and furthermore there was no distress call before the crash.

It was also background noise to that event and month in general, considering how the aftermath of the event was marked by land whales tearing down generic confederate war memorials and statues they assumed were of Robert Lee along with lots of corporate internet censorship.

Seriously, this is Third-World level shenanigans, where "Cause of death" on a bullet-riddled corpse shot 10 times in the face is "Heart Failure" since, obviously, his heart ain't beating no more......

I don´t get why you americans worry about those statues anyway, there will in a couple of years time be a second civil war with lots of new statues!
No, we're not whatever monopoly money printing narcostate you're from, the US is actually stable, not about to go up in flames at the slightest provocation. Maybe you're thinking of the rest of the shitty world?

The helicopter crash wasn't the only thing being memory holed and swamped by photos of the Dodge Challenger. They tried to hide how Heather Heyer really looked. And there might be more to the eyes from what I read on this old blog post worth to re-mention it again if it was already mentionned.
https://itsgoingdown.org/state-trooper-try-stop-medics-performing-cpr-heather-heyer/ ( http://archive.fo/IP1iJ )

As a queer, non-binary, anarchist, critical care RN/street medic who was the first responder for Heather Heyer, initiating CPR and, with a team of amazing bystanders, facilitating resuscitation until EMS arrived, I feel a compelling need to tell our story.

When we heard the car crash into our march, I was about 20 feet away from Heather, and I responded immediately to the screams for medics. I arrived to find bystanders holding c-spine traction on Heather’s neck and putting pressure on a deep leg wound to stop the bleeding, and I stopped to assist in controlling the bleed. Within a minute or two, Heather’s respirations slowed and stopped, she lost her pulse, we rolled her onto her back, and I began chest compressions. An EMT street medic provided respiratory supplies, and a bystander with medic training began respirations.

One of the critical aspects of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), which is the advanced form of CPR that trained medics provide, is maintaining chest compressions at an effective depth and speed, with no breaks in compressions. Providing effective chest compressions is exhausting, and to maintain effective compressions, we ideally provide compressions for only two minutes, and take turns with other medics.

In 90 degree heat, this is even more essential. I was horrified to discover, after two minutes of intense, exhausting chest compressions, that a state trooper had forcibly removed the EMT assisting me in resuscitation, as well as other bystanders ready in line for the next round of compressions. The EMT told the state trooper that we were actively resuscitating a patient, but the state trooper physically removed him from the scene anyway.

I had to yell for other bystanders to come assist with compressions, and two people courageously responded, despite the threats of the state trooper. The state trooper then began yelling at me to leave my patient. I initially thought that perhaps he intended to take over chest compressions, and counted him in to start the next round of compressions (when we switch out on chest compressions, particularly in a chaotic situation, we always count each other in, as in “switching in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1,” so that we don’t have confusion that results in a pause in chest compressions), but he stood by and said he could not do compressions. Why?! I thought to myself.

It's crazy to think this because it reach Alex Jones level of thoughts, but I wonder if some guys behind the curtain wanted to make sure then Heather Heyer die and could be used as a martyr for the cause?

I don't think you understand how the national debt works. It's essentially the savings account of the entire world.
Saying that we need to get rid of the US debt is like saying that we need to stop saving money in "banks" and put it under our mattresses.

What im saying is the us might be the top dog now, able to control the animal spirits. But what happens when the oildollar kicks the bucket? Most of the western worlds prodcution has moved on to more automated facotries. Anacdotal evidence but, From what iv´e heard from my dad (he is a automation & welding expert often in diffrent parts of the world starting up / updating factories). He says that the u.s is far behind in most aspects when it comes to automation. As such the one thing protecting american workers is the cheap petrolium. Right now your living high on the cheap credit hog. But what happens when the hangover kicks in?

You're not wrong that, with the US Dollar being the reserve currency of the world, buying US bonds is a safe investment and better than letting your national surplus sit in national savings accounts. But if I'm not wrong, the last time we saw a state function off of exponentially increasing debt and currency debasement on a scale anywhere similar to the present it was the late Roman Empire. I wonder how many of the people Rome was a debtor to were made whole when it all fucking ended in tears.

Charlottesville was the culmination of liberal mayors and governors allowing violent left-wing groups to escalate violence at political rallies. I don't know if there was a specific desire for someone to die, but there was definitely a desire for street violence because they knew that the media would pin 100% of the blame on right-wing protesters.
