Law Charlottesville’s Confederate statues are war monuments: judge - They cannot be removed. Almost like we have a legal process for solving contentious issues

Virginia circuit court has ruled the monuments at the center of the riots in Charlotesville are monuments of war and thus protected by state law. The city acted improperly in their removal and must return them to their place.

Statues in Charlottesville of Confederate generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson are war monuments protected by state law, a Virginia judge has ruled.

The decision comes nearly two years after three people were killed at the “Unite the Right” white nationalist rallyafter the city of Charlottesville voted to remove the statue of Lee.

Circuit Court Judge Richard E. Moore said the way the statues made people feel did not change the fact they paid homage to the Civil War heroes.

“While some people obviously see Lee and Jackson as symbols of white supremacy, others see them as brilliant military tacticians or complex leaders in a difficult time,” Moore claimed in his ruling, as reported by the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

“I believe that the defendants confused and conflated what the statues are with the intentions of motivations of some involved in erecting them.”

In the nine-page decision, Moore also ruled it was illegal for municipalities to remove the statues without permission from the state.

The decision strikes a major blow to the Charlottesville City Council who voted to remove the statue of Lee in early 2017.

Former city official Don Gathers, who served as chair of the commission that first called for the statues to be relocated, disagreed with Moore’s ruling.

“Just because something is legal, doesn’t mean it’s right or it’s moral,” Gathers told CNN. “I’m fearful what this has done is given the vile evilness that descended upon us in August of 2017 to come back.”

Protester Heather Heyer, 32, was killed and 19 more were injured when a man drove his car into the meeting of white nationalists and right-wing groups in Charlottesville in August 2017.

Two Virginia patrol troopers were also killed in a helicopter crash while assisting in public safety efforts.

The city covered the statues of Lee and Jackson with black tarps while it mourned the three deaths but Moore in February 2018 ruled they had to be removed.

Honestly what they did there was way more vile then the charlotesville statues. There is an argument to be made for the Charlottesville statues being monuments erected not as war memorials but as reactions to the civil rights movement.

Silent Sam was a monument to the students of the University of North Carolina who died in the civil war. Not just the soldiers writ large, but the actual students who went to war and were killed. This is something that is buried deep in US history. Most universities in the south went bankrupt in decades following the civil war. Because all the young men of the south had been killed fighting the young men of the north. It's a very poorly healed wound. The death count belies the tragedy. 10% of the US Male population, but it accounted for in the south for 90% of the male population between 16 and 21 for the years 1861 to 1865.

An entire generation was slaughtered and fat SJWs danced on their grave.

These babbies will never go to war and be killed so trying to explain this to them is useless. I'm glad they are being told to shut up.

It's crazy to think this because it reach Alex Jones level of thoughts, but I wonder if some guys behind the curtain wanted to make sure then Heather Heyer die and could be used as a martyr for the cause?

Or it could just be some cops are really dumb and violent and do dumb, violent shit when they encounter a situation they don't understand, which is most of the time when they're that dumb.
