Undertale / Deltarune / Toby Fox Discussion

I miss when this game seemed so new and exciting. (Chapter 1-chapter 2 for me)

Also this is a call back to a relic theory but I genuinely thought we’d get an alternate flowey as the main yellow flower in the shop, and not some histrionic faggot trying to eat asgore’s asshole. Disappointed we got the second option.

The Deltarune redditors want the freedom to call each other faggots:

Meanwhile, the subreddit mods have decided it's okay to misgender Ralsei. It explicitly does not apply to anyone else, because it is a Safe Space (archive) for trannies. (Somebody else already archived it to archive.is, so :semperfi:to whoever that was)
The issue with that is since Asgore is meant to be a king of that realm, the realm has to look like a domain under his control, so a wild forest or jungle doesn't quite fit
Overgrown Meso-American jungle ruins. Fits the plant/jungle theme, it lends itself to adventure (albeit more pulp than fantasy), and it would be fitting for Asgore to rule over a kingdom that has already fallen (he's borderline broke, his shop isn't well-maintained, and his family is broken up).

@Smokin' Niggardly Fags
Why not have Chapter 5 be set in a pastiche of hometown where Asgore is still chief of police?
Obviously, the game is setting up an *actual* chapter where Hometown becomes a dark world but if you mixed it up enough - it could be its own thing.
Maybe this is overdone and a bit too meta but I'm imagining a bright town set in a field where all the houses are drawn on the ground in flowerbed arrangements. A classic RPG Maker "going crazy with the tileset" moment.

You could even use the 2D platforming bits to play up how they don't make any physical sense outside of their original orthogonal perspective.
He desperately needs the Scott Cawthon workout routine and some actual sunlight on the skin. Maybe malnutrition is driving his yuricuck fetish and other alphabet retardation of characters
Don't you dare remind me of the time when we all thought that FNAF World was going to be Scott's next Desolate Hope.

Surprised nobody's brought up how we keep getting cucked out of Dark World interactions with Lightners who end up in there. Toriel is somehow asleep through the ENTIRE ordeal with Tenna and the Knight, Undyne is pulled offscreen after the Knight battle, and while Asgore does get a few moments with the gang towards the tail end of Chapter 5, it doesn't feel as impactful as it could be for a story we're 5/7 chapters into.

I think it would've been more effective to have Asgore mistake Kris for Aqua, or mistake the whole gang for Darkners. Not out of stupidity or malice, but through dismissal. Disbelief that they've gotten themselves into this mess, or in a similar sense to a dad who doesn't want his kid to bother him while he's working. We still haven't actually fucking FOUGHT anyone from the original Undertale cast (unless you really want to count Pink?). It would've been very cool to have Asgore's patience run out and snap at the group, only to realize it was actually Kris trying to get through to him. He's been treated as a joke up until this chapter, and it's a shame we didn't get to see some of the fire lingering in his eyes.

Or, maybe just don't fixate on the flowers and plants at all, and focus on the fact that Asgore is lonely and kinda miserable while living there, so the entire shack has a sad aura around it. Maybe an abandoned brutalist structure with vines all over the place could work? I'm all ears to your ideas.
Your message made me realise how great the Undertale ruins would have been as a setting for the Ch5 dark world. Think about it:
- perfectly goes along with the whole theme of nostalgia and all the Undertale references,
- solitary king residing in the vast, empty ruins of his broken past would have been very thematically appropriate for the character, and make a more interesting setpiece compared to random nippon sugoi,
- we'd get a fun parallel between DR Asgore and UT Toriel,
- it's the first place we meet Flowey in, so even more parallels for the nostalgia chapter,
- purple stones and marble pillars of the ruins plus the vines and red-leaved trees would lend to neat visuals and obstacles,
- just like in UT, there could be a copy of the Dreemurs' home - it could be used to portray Asgore's character, show the player Toriel's room that's been locked since Chapter 1 and visually portray the conspiracies taking over Asgore's life by placing the conspiracy board in his beloved old home and having the red strings choke out the surroundings like vines,
- and, if you're feeling generous, toss some lore crumbs by putting an area similar to the old monster home city like in the anniversary stream.

...the more I think of all the missed potential of the chapter, the less I'm surprised by the multitude of people who'd rather draw Gaster as a pirate than draw and write about the new locations and characters.

And to schizopost a little bit, here's something I haven't seen anyone discuss — when looking through the script, I found the arrangement of the words in the "lost where the forest would grow, the children followed the pointed tail" prophecy pretty unusual:

Why place the words in such specific order that it creates a completely coherent message with a whole different meaning? Why not put them in the regular order and then scramble the dialogue as it's printed if the words are supposed to be just displayed randomly, but go out of your way to create a whole new proper sentence? Might be a coincidence, but the fact that the order of lines in the dialogue file was previously used to make a "family guy funny moments" joke and that there have been multiple anagrams and a focus on things being reinterpreted and mixed up, this fragment pings my "not a coincidence" radar a little bit.

don't see how you can complain the damage is too low outside maybe the platforming sections. I actually think the damage dealt by enemies in battle has been on an upswing in recent chapters
Mew Mew's bombs did upwards of fifty damage a pop, which for characters who are just barely squeaking over 100 HP by this point is pretty fucking strict. With the way saves are spaced out and encounters work I think basic enemies being relatively simple and easy and bosses being greater challenges is fine. If you want every fight to be hard as fuck then, I don't know, stop being a faggot and play a harder game.
dating sims were originally going to be a larger inspiration for this chapter
I also buy into this though I don't know if there is any evidence to support that. It felt like the Mew Mew dating sim stuff was a mechanic we should have been a bit more familiar with before it cropped up. Maybe they felt like it would be lame if everybody got a moment like that.

What's been released is already worth at least 3 Undertales. It'd take at least a couple months to stream it all.
It doesn't have the incredibly wild and different special endings undertale has because replay value/multiple path choices isn't the draw
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=juT5fR24MXI 1 hour schizo theory (or canon he calls it) saying that deltarune is 1000% a tranny allegory. I only am sharing it because its 1 hour long...scary.
Every reddit ass youtube video essay for the last decade now has been shit like this it's painful chat

I don't see how you can complain the damage is too low outside maybe the platforming sections. I actually think the damage dealt by enemies in battle has been on an upswing in recent chapters. It feels like things can quickly take off half a character's health and stacking Defense doesn't do much. It also feels like party-wide damage is thrown around a lot more now, which makes the rarity of party-wide heals more noticeable. I'm not saying it's super hard now, I still didn't die during Chapter 5 except a couple times against Pink, but the healing economy feels weird now since Ralsei's heal can't keep up with the increasing HP, and the auto-heal when downed takes too long, so you need to stock up on whatever the best healing item this chapter is (Green Tea) just spam it on the party as you get low (since likely everyone's hurt at once).

Actually, I've been thinking about something. I feel like some of the gameplay was actually at its best designed in the first two chapters, because Susie and Ralsei's magic had more use, so there was more interesting choices during fights like Jevil when it comes to attacking vs. pacifism and how you want to spent turns and TP. But not only has Ralsei's heal gotten less effective with each chapter as touched on above, as the game has gone on the more often fights revolve around needing to use special actions with high TP costs to win (or win with pacifism), which means actually using Susie or Ralsei's magic now just feels impractical all the time because you're massively delaying victory not using that TP on the action that wins the fight. You're essentially just using ACTs or healing with items now, and very rarely anything else.
That may be cause I have been playing Undertale-style, but... even in my 'blind gameplay' save file, I still had little use of Ralsei's Pacify, let alone Susie's ex nihilo but über-expensive Scythemare. I could SPARE veryone with just Acts. Meanwhile, the game going Five Nights At Freddy's instead of playing the Flower Kingdom in my 'genocide' save file made ven battles themselves moot.

By the by, I wonder if all of th i supposed to lead to Susie and Ralsei at least getting similar functionality, since they would both be attack and suppor. They could even grow into conventional RPG roles... even though they had clearly defined RPG roles in the first Chapters, which was the source of angst from Susie in Chapter 4, who felt discouraged from being other than a DPS.

Any bets on XSlash never appearing again after Chapter 2?
I feel so, though that would have made sense, since the bonds you broke made Kri stronger. That should have been carried to Chapter 4, despite obviously being a Nti-Frustration Feature.

On an unrelated note... something else that I thought was interesting to bring up is the numbers from the website
1784212560241.png
I know a good chunk of the community corresponds these to the Weird Route, but after Noelle went schizo in Chapter 5, I don't see it anymore.
I tried to think of every rationalization when it comes to the Weird Route and none of them fit.

So what if the sizes of these numbers represent the amount of secret content in these chapters? With the white ones having Weird Route content, while the hidden ones are related to Shadow Crystals and the eggs? It would also explain why Chapters 6 and 7 are missing as all the major secrets ended during Chapter 5 (the Shadow Crystal hunt, the eggs and even the Weird Route takes you to an alternate Chapter 7).
To me, that shows how much 'genocide' content has.
Chapter 1 has no Weird Route. You get a different scene after defeating King if you go with violenc even once.
Chapter 2 has a Weird Route. A lot of the game involves you forcing Kris to exploit Noelle. After you force Noelle to use Snowgrave, the rest of the chapter has you dealing wi the aftermath, which led to Spamton taking over Q5U4EX7YY2E9N's castle, which significantly alters th events of that Chapter.
Chapter 3 has no Weird Route. However, there is a Sword Route, which nets you a huge chunk of content, down to netting you the Shadow Mantle.
Chapter 4 has a Weird Route. You get a big, different scene that skips a lot of the Noelle Holiday house, but you also get a few extra scenes after that.
Chapter 5 has a Weird Route. Th events of Chapter 5, while far shorter, effectively make this Chapter completely new.

Something I just noticed that could just be late night schizo ramblings, but it's interesting on the pair of characters that you see it happen on.
Lanino and Elnina
Lani-NoEl-Nina

Wonder who else had their destined relationship fucked up after a rough patch by some fucking third party asshole...

There's more autism to be mined!
If you put the names together in Japanese
ラニーノ エルニーナ

ノエル

Noeru. Which is also exactly how Noelle's name is spelled in Japanese.
Lanino and Elnina being "The Boy" and "The Girl" in Spanish.
Hmmmmm.

But wait! There's more!
El Nino in spanish doesn't mean just "the boy" it also means "The christ child"
So
in the name of the two goofy autism weatherpeople you can arguably find both "Noel" and "Kris"
But it's all twisted up and wrong, almost like the two having their spat in the first place was...
My greatest schizophrenia takes form when I need to sleep.
