The Amazing Digital Circus - Western Isekai that probably will become Hazbin Hotel killer

The future president of some country will say that the Digital Circus movie was their childhood

It reminds me of various screenshots I've seen on Facebook and IMDB where parents express concerns about encountering Bronies when taking their daughters to see the "My Little Pony: Equestria Girls" movie, citing issues related to personal hygiene and inappropriate remarks about the characters. Those screenshots are hard to find now thanks to Jeets working at google and AI.

At least My Little Pony is an IP for kids. Digital Circus, on the other hand, isn't. This reminds me more of the parents who took their kids to see Sausage Party and walked out halfway through the movie as soon as they saw its true nature.

Honestly, a lot of the show's problems can be owed to Cooper designing his characters around quirky mental illness gimmicks rather than thinking "Does this character actually mean anything? Does this character have any real relevance to the story's central theme/premise
Her relevance is being jaxs bullying victim. Maybe she couldve been a better character if she wasnt stuck in the amazing digital jax ackstracting show

The future president of some country will say that the Digital Circus movie was their childhood.

This is why I call bullshit when people try to excuse this show as “for adults.”

The fact is GLITCH didn’t take the appropriate measures to warn parents TADC had inapropiate content for kids. We have Goosework on record BRAG he knew children were watching this and saying he wouldn’t tone it down for them.

Why is nobody complaining? Not even the anti-woke crowd said anything. GLITCH is happy selling toys to kids and also showing them references to sex. All on the same show.

This is a very inmature show, but that doesn’t meant kids should be watching it.

The target demographic is teenagers, and no teenager wants to hear that their show was made for kids so they say it's for adults. In terms of what 14-17 year olds use to watch on MTV or Comedy Central, I say the show is generally appropriate. It's like a smidge more adult than Invader Zim, and that's mostly because it's taking itself more seriously and can have characters swear.

If you think about it, Glitch has always been aimed at teenagers. Here's something Viclis/No Context SMG4 uploaded in 2022:

Also, I stole this from Twitter.

I don’t recall anyone on Invader Zim asking to have genitals to have sex, or even having a sex scene even it was behind closed doors.

Johnen Vazquez does have a similar safe edgy style like Goosework, but the difference is that sensors kept him in a leash, and all he got away was the subtle things he did to get pass them. GLITCH didn’t do the same.

Depends on what you mean by “teenager” I suppose. 17-18? Maybe. 13-14? Hell no.

I mean sure Kids do like to watch shows older than what they are meant to. But it’s the job of adults to shoo them away when they want to watch something they really aren’t supposed to.

That's why I said more adult than Invader Zim. They mostly did violence and a bit of body horror. Sex is a step above that in terms of setting an age rating.

The Chappelle Show is rated TV-14, so if we compared this to Digital Circus, I would say the Digital Circus is way more appropriate for the whole age range of teenagers.

I guess I just don't see anything in this show more outlandish than what I saw when I was a teenager, and my parents were largely fine with it. Like, I would rank this at the same level as Scrubs or even lower than Family Guy.

This fits in that age gap between preteen and later teen entertainment where it's mostly safe and they can believe they are watching something super serious and meaningful because one of the character kill themse- I mean, "abstracts" because they are sad.

I meant the sex, the realistic strangulation, and fetishes not the abstraction. Maybe some of the slurs ( not appropriate for kids).

I will assume good faith and not assume you are ignoring that part on purpose to focus on the nothing burger aspects like abstraction that nobody has a problem with. In case it wasn't obvious, I mean the sexual aspects of the show.

No offense but if a parents is allowing their 13 year olds or younger, to watch shows that talk about genitalia, and shows the characters having sex, they are failing as parents.

Ended up watching most of the show. Didn’t really pay too much attention but I feel like I saw enough.
It was about how I expected ie a few good scenes/concepts but generally shit, but the depth and breadth of said shit still amazed me.

Like just as an example, why the fuck do both the first two episodes have Pomni not actually take part in the adventure? She gets thrown into some other bullshit while the rest of the cast does the actual thing entirely without her (and Jax steals the show both times because no one else in this show is an actual character). In the first two fucking episodes. Where you’re supposed to be introducing and setting up the basic mechanics of the show.

It could have worked in the second episode if Pomni had actually spent time with Gummigoo but instead a whole bunch of time is spent watching the away team do the actual thing and Pomni basically vanishes into the void until after Gummi has already found the models and had his whole existential crisis. Like why the fuck would you fucking write it like that? Are you retarded? I mean Nooseworks is indeed retarded and also a troon but fucking come on man

If I had to give an honest assessment of this show's age (in)appropriateness, I'd put it around the same level as Family Guy. Family Guy's probably worse overall, honestly, but Seth isn't a troon and all the strangulation was targeted at fat guys so I'm giving extra leeway.

Jax is one of the poorest attempts at making a “deep” character. Even in his mind, he just showed he was a jerk with the heart of jerk. There’s no real nuance with that, and he isn’t very conflicted on anything until the last few episodes, and even then, it was all just self serving. We’re all expected to feel sorry that he abstracted, even after knowing he caused others to do so. In fact, at the beginning of the series, none of the characters are sad over an all around likable guy like Kaufmo abstracting, and is treated as comedic, but the jerk character abstracting at the end has his victims being distraught over it?

The troon's revenge fantasy. In his darkest hour, he consoles himself: "what if I abstract, then you'll all be sorry!" Imagining people he's angry at in emotional pain is the closest he can get to an erection anymore.

I thought we talked about back when the rating was revealed to be PG?

Hard to give benefit of the doubt knowing that he purposely aimed for a PG rating.

If the major core audience actually were adults, they'd put the appropriate PG-13 label on it. Why won't they? Because if they labeled it PG-13, they know ticket sales will plummet due to a huge chunk of the audience being children.

This needs to happen for their minds and bodies:

Goose knows TADC is watched by a lot of children. A lot of children. He doesn't care. Children watching his thinly veiled fetishes is all a big joke to him. I'd be more shocked if someone like him did actually care.

You wanna know a show that does dark comedy well while also managing to disturb viewers (kids)? Courage The Cowardly Dog. Now that shit was child trauma kino, and responsible for probably one of the most grounded, brutal but wholly honest portrayals of relationship abuse I've seen aimed towards kids.
TADC and other indieshit shows never seem to reach this level of maturity because they portray "serious" moments to their viewers like they're still children with "outbreaks" and "therapy talk", whereas moments like this in Courage talks to kids like they're an actual fucking person that can understand what's going on. (Of course things like "burying Bunny in a pot" is still done in a cartoonish/humorous way, but the message is still clear if you understand she's been "deflowered" and hold against her will).

I wouldn't really call his sense of humor "safe edgy". More just "lighthearted yet also dark" in a way people like gooseworx and other safe edgy people badly copy. It's usually a copy of this or something like some other well liked funny cartoon/comic guy's humor aped between the therapy-speak and sex references thing.

I don't remember any Jhonen Vazquez stuff didn't try also being super serious 'talk down to you" shit or retarded allegories for redditors, Shit was just like "lmao hehe haha he stared at the sun and his eyes went all bubbly" or some other funny physical violence.

Like his sort of humor even in his stuff he made not targeted towards kids had the same vibe about it too. Look up "jhonen Vazquez comics" in an image search and it's all basically the same but with occasional swearing or blood.

If you want to say Jhonen is far superior as a writer, and artist, and that Goosework comes more as an inferior imitator, I won’t argue with that.

Jhonen is such an obvious inspiration of his, I am suprised more people don’t point it out. I do think he would had done a much better job with TADC too.
