The Shin Megami Tensei/Persona Thread

Apparently Chies english VA (Erin Fitzgerald) isn't handling the recast well

And apparently she has taken to her discord and seething and coping hard

Keep in mind, this bitch didn't even voice the OG Chie in Persona 4. Only in Golden and the Anime. Sad display from a grown woman!
I only really played the PS2 one, I keep forgetting they remaster her. Like the bass EN Chie sounds so distinct but Erin just sounds like any other anime chick so I have a hard time caring really

Thats the funnier thing - Haru DOES go to the same school you do. She's just such a non character that unless you remember seeing her on the Summer Trip, you'd be forgiven for not realizing she goes to your school.
Haru is such a non-character in vanilla that in every subsequent P5 title she becomes a different person because the writers realize she has no place within the team or meaningful interactions thanks to Morgana's dogshit "character arc" getting in the way of her introduction.

This all just reminds me that the second half of Persona 5 is shit. It pretty much goes downhill once Makoto or whatever her name is joins the party as it ruins the outcast vibe that was going on

NGL, I always liked PS2 Chie's VA and how she sounded, I still have no clue why they changed her voice. I could guess it was to make her sound more tomboy-ish, but that's just my idea on why it happened. Either that or the previous VA wasn't available for P4G.

Fuck Mona, I hate that stupid fucking cat with every fiber of my being. Teddie might've been really bad at times, but he still has redeeming qualities that balance him out in the end. At least he wasn't harping on you to go the fuck to sleep all the time. At least his character arc didn't trample on anyone else's. Morgana makes Teddie look like Joshua fucking Graham in terms of quality.

By the way, did she not reject returning to voice Ramlethal in Guilty Gear because that would be her wearing "black face"? How can you use that logic when you voice a Japanese teenage girl? These fucking "people" man...
Which is funny because she voiced the fucking tranny in Catherine

Its funny how both mascots do a good job embodying their respective series tones and themes.

Teddie - Kinda cringe and pretty overbearing but feels genuine in everything it does and bounces back to being endearing.

Mona - Wants to be cool and marketable but comes off as shallow and lacking a lot of original appeal.

Actually speaking of Haru if you're one of the twelve or so Haru waifufags out there you got shafted hard. After her dungeon she barely exists as a character.
The only thing that retard does plot wise is open a fucking door. she's a glorified key

If it wasn't for Haru's palace, Morgana would probably be one of my favorite characters in P5. I thought he was endearing.
Weirdly enough, once someone told me that you could tell if you can go out at night based on how Morgana is sitting, I found I was less bothered by being forced to stay in, because I at least knew that this was the case, instead of getting told to go the fuck to sleep seemingly randomly.

Okumura's palace is honestly where I think P5R most prominently shits the bed. Firstly, Haru has fuck all going on. Even with her full s.link and playing Strikers, I don't particularly care that much about Haru. She's fine. I don't hate her, and I don't love her.

Secondly, Morgana and Ryuji both come off terribly and for some reason, the story decides that this is the most interesting thing going on, because ??? At least they later got some Thieves Den dialogue to try and make up, even if it feels way too late, and completely borked. I do think Strikers handled their dynamic better, for example when they're defending Sophia from being insulted by her creator.
Ryuji: SO SHUT THE FUCK UP, IDIOT!
Morgana: Come on, Skull... phantom thieves are normally supposed to be classier than that... but not THIS time!

But as I see it, Joker is the one who comes off looking like a malignant retard during the whole Okumura arc, Throughout the whole bit between Ryuji and Morgana, Morgana who is living with Joker, is obviously going through some kind of emotional turmoil, yet Joker seems too dense to put two and two together, and try and head off the massive interpersonal implosion that is obviously building right in front of his face.

I always viewed it more from the scope of "Morgana's treated Ryuji like shit the entire time, Jokers just letting Morgana be on the receiving end, it's not his fault Morgana is comically thin skined", but that's admittedly massive headcannon.

There's a reason I always fast-forward the Okuruma arc. Though at least Royal made the dungeon shorter...

Haru is such a fun case because P3 and P4 already fixed the problem of late game party members by actually introducing them early in the story, with Shinji being introduced in the build up to the 2nd full moon fight, and Naoto being introduced before Kanji's dungeon, with both of them showing up frequently in plot events leading up to their actual party debut. In contrast it's like P5 TRIES not to introduce Haru as a proper character before her dungeon, and P5R "fixes" it by adding her to 2 scenes (one of which just exists to show Kawakami in her swimsuit) where we don't even get her name.
