Creepy Unsolved Mysteries - From unsolved murders to unidentified people to unexplained supernatural events, what are some of the creepiest unsolved mysteries you've ever heard of?

So, there would be no reason for her not to come forward, if she were alive. There's no crime to investigate her boyfriend for, and privacy legislation wouldn't even permit the police telling her family where she is. She could walk into any police department or detachment, say who she is and that she's not missing, they would verify with her fingerprints or DNA, and close the file. All they would be allowed to say is that she voluntarily ran away and the case is closed.
I think there's a certain shame or guilt component to these things. It could be the same thing for Mekayla. If she's removed from the missing person's list, I think that'd reach her family pretty quickly. Maybe she doesn't want to disappoint her family, especially her younger siblings. That's assuming that she's not being held against her will. Maybe she left willingly, but isn't staying willingly.

In the Alicia Navarro case, I don't think she really understood the consequence of going to the police. I think she figured she'd just be taken off the missing person list and that'd be that, i.e., I don't think she wanted to be reunited with her family or to leave the man that groomed her. It could be the same with Mekayla. I bring up Alicia Navarro because I think it's a similar case in a lot of ways.

There's lots of reasons. I figure she's alive, you figure she's dead, but we'll never really know until the case is solved (i.e., never, because Canada is a shithole lmao).

While I don't have the highest hopes for the eventual fate of this specific young lady from the prairies, remember that leaving home at 16 to join the reserves/work in a mine/be a sessions guitarist and never speaking to your boring dad again has never been considered unusual behaviour in western society. Even in the smartphone age, there may well be a non-zero number of teenagers who are just done with whatever brand of bullshit exists in their hometown.

Another thing that I don't think non-Canadians fully grasp about Canada is how ridiculous our privacy laws are and how they shield the RCMP from any consequences for their incompetence. NOTHING about criminal investigations can be reported in Canada that the crown doesn't allow to be released. They (or whatever law enforcement is involved) have to approve any statements. That's why if you try to read about, say, a trial, every news outlet reports the same facts, that's all that has been approved. It's absolutely wild to me how censored everything is here compared to the US.

This was a lot easier to do 30+ years ago.

In the US, you need to be In The System to drive, open a bank account, get a utility service like electricity or gas, get a "real" job, buy booze, get married, fly on a plane, go to school, get healthcare... you can't get your ears pierced without ID. You might ID to adopt a cat from the shelter. Your birth certificate, social security number, fingerprints, and state ID are all connected.

There are obviously some people who are professional dope trimmers and who are happy to live in a solar-powered shack and go by "Shunka."

And then there's Hector the day laborer whose documents say that he's actually an insurance actuary from Minnesota.

If you're willing to be outside society, it's a hard life but some people do make it work.

Sadly, most kids who run off and are never found again would have realistically surfaced at some point if they were doing ok.

In Alicia's defense, she is autistic.

Don't know why but the West Memphis 3 have been on my mind lately. Absolutely monstrous crime. Couldn't find a discussion on KF about it so I figured I'd post here.

The briefest summary for anyone who may not know: in West Memphis Tennessee in 1993, 3 young boys were pulled off their bikes at the edge of some woods, tied up, mutilated, and left to drown after being tossed into a canal while still alive. I recommend never looking up the crime scene photos, they're all very public and horribly graphic.

Three teens were blamed, one of them was a known troublemaker and edgelord who dabbled (to say the least) in the occult. The other two were more normal but all were linked to the crime after one of them confessed over and over and over again. People say it was all BS because the one who confessed had a literal room temp IQ.

A famous documentary was made, celebrities came to their defense, Christians and the prosecution were blamed for railroading them over fear of their alternative interests. It was the central pivot point of the so-called "satanic panic" in the USA, and a huge reason for the atheistic shift in US culture over the next decade or two.

Two of the victims' dads were pretty eccentric, and were each separately accused of the crime by people who defended the teens. Also on the same day, a very bloody and mud-covered guy entered into a nearby Bojangles connected to the same canal and used the bathroom, leaving blood all over it. It was cleaned and no evidence was collected from it. No one knows who he was or if he had anything to do with the murders.
There's a fair amount of police incompetence involved but there's enough evidence floating around for all kinds of conjecture.

Ultimately the teens were convicted, spent like 20 years in prison, and got out on an Alford plea--an admittance of guilt but you can be released and assert your innocence later. Now all three are free and the main teen Damien is a well known and even respected figure in occult circles.

The whole thing inspired countless films and tv shows. Will Byers from Stranger Things is named after one of the murdered boys, as an example.

If you've ever learned about the case, what do you think happened? I personally think the three teens did it for numerous reasons. After going through as much evidence as I could find, it really does seem like they had no good alibis. The confessions aren't perfect but are fairly compelling. Damien was a real piece of work and seemed capable of this kind of thing. The trial was pretty fair and wasn't nearly as witch-hunt-y as people want you to think imo.
The Bojangles guy will always weird me out though. Part of me thinks real demons were active that day, either as a result of the crime or the cause of it. Who knows.

People have joked that Ronnie Ralph (Ethan Ralph's dad) murdered them.

IMO one of the worst examples of a fashionable celebrity cause springing patently guilty criminals. Worse than Jack Henry Abbott in some ways, and if Damien Echols kills again (it'll only be Echols who kills again; he was the obvious ringleader and is probably a bona fide sociopath) it'll be definitively worse by a wide margin. The old HBO documentary is one of the most deceptive pieces of trash ever produced.

Always remember they took an Alford plea and were not actually exonerated in any way.

EDIT: Also, doesn't anyone who defends these mopes find it odd that there is effectively no effort underway to figure out who "the real killer" was? When was the last time you saw anyone pose that question, or some kind of media followup decades later poking into the unsolved murders of these poor kids?

God, I'm old. I actually remember this when it was new and it was my first introduction to Hugh Grant.

Anyways, time for his apology tour video.

Fun fact up until this point Jay has been trailing in the late night wars to David Letterman leading people to speculate that NBC had screwed up in hiring Leno to replace Carson rather than Carson’s choice Letterman I highly recommend the book and HBO movie both called “The late shift” off topic but very interesting look into television and Hollywood.

The West Memphis Three. Yeah, to me, it’s pretty open and shut. Damien Echols would have been a school shooter if he were a few years younger. They found three different knots to tie the boys up, which to me is a smoking gun that there were three perpetrators. I don’t think most people use more than a single type of knot, especially under pressure in a high-stress situation. Then there’s Damien’s medical files going back to living in Portland, Oregon, and his time there. He was really mentally troubled, and of course, Jessie confessed repeatedly, even with his own attorney present, telling him not to. He knew about the whereabouts of an Evan Williams whiskey bottle near the crime scene. None of the boys had alibis. Damien had other troubling behavior beforehand as well. Then there’s his trench coat that “disappeared” after the murders.

Does anybody remember that story: some account on social media (I think Reddit) posted on some confessions subreddit about as a kid, his friend group had an annoying slow-in-da-mind who would tag-along when playing outside. One day, the group was playing near a rocky cliff and pushed the annoying kid off, went home, and never told their parents. The confession post ended and somebody responded with a link to a news article about a missing kid/found body that matches everything in the story. Said OP than deleted the thread never to be seen again.

I remember hearing about it in a random TrueCrime/Horror YouTube video a couple years ago. It could very easily be fake and gay, but the idea intrigues me and makes me wonder how "easy" it was to do stuff like that in previous centuries.

Scott Kleeschulte. Here's a post about it from /r/UnresolvedMysteries

Folks, there is a reeeeeeeeasonnnnnn why Eichols variously looks like the great-grandson of Aleister Crowley, the grandson of Jack Parsons, and the son of Michael Aquino. Because all three things might be quite literally true. EICHOLS WAS NOT A RANDO. There is a reeeeeeeasonnnnnnn why satanic cocksuckers like Depp and Vedder stanned Eichols, there is REEEEEEASONNNNN why Eichols was ever a fucking thing in the first place. It was probably all scripted/choreographed by satanic theater kids as part of a "Panic" psyop to inoculate the huuuuuge interrelated cult of satanic traitors, most especially the famous ones...which might even include MOST famous people. Satanists hijacked our society.

(I would strongly advise any Satanists here tempted now to "correct" me to STFU or else I'll unload enough evidence here to eventually...but sooner than later...doom you and your family IRL. Capiche?)

My #1 unsolved mystery isn't very mysterious.

The Yankees murdered Helen Ruth.

Obviously.

The "curse" mythology as we've known it, mostly via a ginger ghoul named Dan Shaughnessy, was a diabolical misdirection the whole time. But the curse itself was TOTALLY REAL. The world is weirder than you yet know.

Helen = PROBABLY my biological grandaunt, FYI.

NYC really is evil.

Skynetville.

Behavioral Sink City.

The Toilet of America.

I intend to someday bring about a law wherein wearing any Yankees paraphernalia outside of a strict historical/fictional reenactment context earns you the death penalty, as in, summary execution. The franchise itself ought to be cancelled and replaced by an expansion team named the Rats, or the Yorkies, or the Babies. NYC itself could be due a total RAZING, just annihilate the whole city and start over. "Warn people and let them evacuate first, tho, right?" Eh. Maybe.

the real unsolved mystery is how my precious new york yankees haven't won a world series in almost 20 goddamned years. they should have never torn down yankee stadium.

sorry, what were you saying?

Enjoy the brief remainder of your pathetic kike life, New York cunt. Your evil franchise and evil city STOLE OUR DESTINY, and it's time to correct that. You motherfuckers could've stolen 100 consecutive championships, and you'd still suck. You will never win another World Series. Your franchise won't even exist soon. Nor your city. Nor you. 😐

EDIT: Fun fact, Babe Ruth died on 8/16.

Hmmmm. What mean?

Interestingly, Elvis and Aretha ALSO died on 8/16...or at least FAKED their deaths, anyway. I wonder if that 8/16 thing is a coincidence, hmmmm. Probably a COENCIDENCE, actually. But the anti-Coen kind. The kind manufactured by God. God, who hates you fucking kikes on a timelessly genocidal level, as history has shown, and the near future will PROVE. 😐

Here's kind of a weird one. Shinichi Shimomura was a man who worked at Nintendo most nobly the Kirby games. He worked as both a designer and a director. His most recent game was Kirby: Nightmare In Dreamland in 2002. After that game came out he just... disappeared. He has not been credited on any Kirby on any Nintendo game since. There aren't any documents to suggest he moved to another part of Nintendo or even left for another company. There is very little information about him online other than the games he worked on. There are some rumors he died in 2003 but there aren't any articles to prove this. He would have been 36 at the time in 2002 when he was last credited so he would have been too young to retire. This isn't anything to suggest he left the gaming industry too for something else. I don't think any of the Nintendo employees have talked about him openly. Wherever he is I hope he's doing well.

He practiced the Japanese art of de-personing himself. Dropping out of society probably, going to live in rural Japan. I hear that's a real thing some of them do.

jōhatsu (蒸発), translates to Evaporation.
In Japan, the topic of jōhatsu is taboo in regular conversation, like the topic of suicide. It has been estimated that 100,000 Japanese people disappear annually. However, jōhatsu may be underreported in the official numbers. In 2015, Japan's National Police Agency had registered 82,000 missing persons, and 80,000 were found by the end of the year. In comparison, that same year, Britain had 300,000 calls to report a missing person, although it has about half of the population of Japan.[2] Furthermore, a database of missing persons does not exist in Japan.[3] -Wikipedia Prevalence section
He probably had his reasons. The creator of Yume Nikki is almost like that too but he is confirmed alive and stuff. Just fucked off, went rogue, and basically takes no interviews. Some people are just very private and wish for quiet lives.

Not sure about 2003 but this also is an added explanation about how people do Johatsu.
The businesses that assist the jōhatsu are called yonige-ya (夜逃げ屋 “midnight escape agents”). These establishments are relatively accessible and have their own websites. One particular yonige-ya could charge between ¥50,000 ($450) and ¥300,000 ($2,600) for its services, which depend on a number of factors.
It's fitting how a huge Island nation is the prime hot spot on earth to disappear at, and go rogue, and pick other lives.

this reminds me of christopher knight, a man who lived in the forest of maine for almost 30 years with pretty much 0 human contact, except for saying "hi" to a hiker in the 90s. he was responsible for 3 decades of unsolved burglaries in the area, stealing what he had to in order to survive.
