Jesus, raped and murdered a pregnant 18 year old and a murdered two others. It's insane we are expected to support these guys in prison for the rest of their lives instead of just hanging them.

On the evening of the 18th of November, law enforcement officers conducted a welfare check at the family's mobile home after Russell Keith Dardeen, aged 29, failed to report to work. Inside the residence, officers discovered the bodies of Ruby Dardeen and the couple's son. Ruby Dardeen, who was 30 years old and pregnant at the time, had sustained fatal injuries that resulted in premature labor. The infant was also found deceased at the scene.

This is one of those cases that really gets me. Such an incredibly brutal way to exterminate a seemingly normal family. Keith must have pissed off someone royally to kill the family in that manner. It had to be someone they knew considering the killers used the son's baseball bat rather than bringing a murder weapon with them.

You're severely underestimating the ability of some people to keep a serious drug problem concealed. There are a whole lot of functional addicts that keep it together for a long time until it dramatically breaks through, like in this guy's case.

While the police were called quickly, investigators found yeshiva staff and students to be somewhat uncooperative; this was attributed due to the Sabbath, which the faculty wanted to be concluded before discussing the murder with police.

This day in March, marks the beginning of the cross-country trip where Leah Roberts is never seen again on the 13th and after 26 years there still hasn't been any answers to how and where she, or at least her remains might be.

Leah Roberts was a 23 year old NCSU College student who voluntarily dropped out a semester before graduation in the aftermath of losing both her mother and father. She also was involved in a near fatal car accident which she had a broken femur which had to be fused with a metal rod & collapsed lung, she described this experience as "being reborn".

On the day she set off from North Carolina, a drive of which she informed nobody, not even her sister Kara. A note the discovery of her room that stated:

"For while I am gone Remember everyone is together in thoughts and prayers. Time passes quickly have faith in me yourself everyone. April 23rd, On the Road, No. I am Not Suicidal. I am the opposite. Remember Jack Kerouac?"

Following the note, a sketch of the cheshire cat smile could be seen.

She takes out $3,000 in cash following the trip she only stayed at one hotel in Memphis TN, before heading west on I-40 to California before going up I-5 towards Washington. She makes it across the country in less than 4 Days, surveillance footage from a gas station in Oregon showed her peering out into the parking lot a couple of times, *presumably to check on her kitten in the car. The account activity on Leah's bank account stopped after that.

Her last dated sighting was on a theater ticket stub for a 2:00pm showing of American Beauty at the Bellis Fair Mall in Bellingham on March 13th.

Four days later, a couple jogging the Canyon Creek road near Mount Baker discovered articles of clothing on the side of the road, then later her white Jeep down the ravine. Whatcom County Sheriffs arrive at the scene and are able to identify Leah's car along with her NC license plate. A search party is gathered covering about 200 square miles of the crash site but didn't find Leah, not even her kitten Bea. Detectives at the scene determined that her car was traveling at 40mph prior to the crash and there was no signs of blood in or around the windshield and drivers area. Detectives found $2,500, Leah's drivers license, passport, and her mother's wedding ring which was a precious possession of Leah's.

A couple of tips came in following the initial investigation Leah was seen at a diner two days before with two men, one who went by "Barry". Another tip was from an anonymous caller who claimed to have saw a woman walking around disoriented and confused, once Authorities started to question them, they got frightened and hung up immediately.

In 2006, the case file was turn over to new detectives who checked under the car to noticed that the relay motor was tampered with to allow the car to accelerate without hitting a pedal. They also note that there was a male fingerprint under the hood along with other dna found on Leah's clothing.

In 2014, A couple of people on reddit had claimed to have found a mummfied corpse around the area of the crash site. The body had a metal rod in the same leg as Leah's, and even coincidentally the same manufacturer date being around the fall of '98. However upon further analysis and discussion the body was not* Leah's and was from a man.

After 26 years, widespread attention from Unsolved Mysteries, and countless tips, Leah Roberts still remains missing & their siblings will likely never find out the closure for their sister.

The disappearance of Terrance Williams & Felipe Santos couldn't be anything more than a coincidence (surprised it wasn't mentioned in this thread)

Story goes; Deputy Steve Calkins of the Collier County Sheriff's Department had "arrested" both men months apart from each other then both mysteriously disappear after *supposedly dropping them off at Circle K convenience stores.

Santos was an illegal migrant from Mexico who was driving into work with his brothers. He gets into a minor car accident. Calkins showed up at the scene following the call to take an accident report. He then realizes very quickly that Santos didn't have form of identification on him, so Calkins cited Santos for "Reckless Driving" he then drives Santos off to the aforementioned Circle K store and just let him go per Calkins's claims despite no evidence showing footage of Santos at the said location.

Williams was a Tennessee native who moved down to Florida to be closer with family. He had a suspended drivers license for a prior DUI offense yet had drove his car illegally to a party for a coworker. Williams was pulled over by Calkins at the Naples Memorial Cemetery. Eyewitnesses and workers stated that Calkins patted Williams down and placed him in the police car, and throwing the keys of Williams' Cadillac & had moved the car into the road to obstruct traffic. Calkins took him to the Circle K as he claimed that Williams was late for work, (though he didn't work there). The Circle K employee contradicts Calkins prior statements that Williams did not work at the store and there was no camera evidence showing Williams going in or around said store.

Calkins retains that he never had any memory of making any arrest or knowing anything about Williams or Santos however it is revealed that Calkins himself hasn't made any arrest since out of 500 police reports from 2001 to 2004. A dispatch call at Williams' scene was leaked which included Calkins on the phone with the operator describing the scene "We got ourselves a Homie Cadillac here, Maybe he's out there in the cemetery. He'll come back and his car will be gone." Joking around with the operator. He was later internally investigated by both the FBI & Police where he had contradicted himself of ever making any sort of report or conducting any background checks on Williams nor Santos. He took 3 polygraph tests which ranged from inconclusive to deception, shortly after that he was then fired from the department for his half assed police work & failure of cooporation during the investigation.

The theories range on various outcomes, a popular one being that both men had disappeared voluntarily to avoid future conflict with the law. Santos was illegal and couldn't face being deported back given that he left to America in order to save up enough for a better life for his family. Williams had trouble with the law including an active arrest warrant regarding unpaid child support as well as the suspended drivers license.

Another one being, that there could have been multiple people involved and that Calkins was a transporter for these men to be set up & abducted at these Circle K stores however nothing strong really proved any evidence as such.

Calkins left Florida in 2016 and his property was searched however no DNA evidence, or remains of the men were ever found on his property.

Here's kind of a weird one. Shinichi Shimomura was a man who worked at Nintendo most nobly the Kirby games. He worked as both a designer and a director. His most recent game was Kirby: Nightmare In Dreamland in 2002. After that game came out he just... disappeared. He has not been credited on any Kirby on any Nintendo game since. There aren't any documents to suggest he moved to another part of Nintendo or even left for another company. There is very little information about him online other than the games he worked on. There are some rumors he died in 2003 but there aren't any articles to prove this. He would have been 36 at the time in 2002 when he was last credited so he would have been too young to retire. This isn't anything to suggest he left the gaming industry too for something else. I don't think any of the Nintendo employees have talked about him openly. Wherever he is I hope he's doing well.

Very reminiscent of Tetsu Inoue, he was an Ambient musician who fell out of the public eye after his album Inland in '07 and vanished. Speculations ranged from foul play to tragedy; one big theory was widely speculated that he was one of the victims in the 2011 earthquake/tsunami disaster. However, 2 years ago. In an online interview on an ambient music messageboard, also reddit that, his cousin stated that: “Tetsu does not want to be found. And he does not want to say where he is." She then wrote out a letter with a reassuring response that" he is alive and well."

The vocalist who sang "Goodbye Horses" disappeared and didn't want to be found for like 20 years, someone later discovered she was a bus driver in the Northeast. She didn't want anything to do with her past for whatever reason, even turning down the large sums of money she was owed.

There was also Bill Watterson the creator of Calvin and Hobbes. After the comic ended he avoided the public eye for the most part only doing a few interviews. He's always been anti-license never allowing the comic to be made into anything else. I don't think there are any recent photos of him. He's alive but he values his privacy.

It's not quite the same. Watterson is more of a JD Salinger figure. Everybody knows he's alive and everyone knows where he is, he just refuses to engage the public on any level.

I mean, probably not. Career criminals and compulsive psychopaths usually end up meeting bad ends, just not always at the hands of a judge. We have too many cases of murders solved by DNA that traced back to criminals who died in jail to overlook it. Which is to say nothing of what happens when other, stronger, criminals or psychopaths decide they want you gone.

I think that’s very different than being publicly revealed and prosecuted for doing something so monstrous, but I get your point.

I was under the impression that genetic genealogy has also revealed the opposite as well, that there are many more murderers than we knew existed that really do appear to have pulled off one terrible act, then for whatever reason decided that they didn’t want to or couldn’t do it ever again, and went back to living normal lives, just with a dark secret they never revealed. I’ll try to find some documentation related to this later. I just recall some LEO talking about this in articles or podcasts, about how they always believed someone who could murder a child or woman where the crime was unsolved, would eventually be revealed to be the type of person you are talking about, but more and more often, through genetic genealogy, they are discovering more of these crimes are probably one off incidents by some boring random dude who never gets in any other trouble the rest of their lives. Perhaps they have the fantasy, indulge it, then realize how disgusting it was or are too overwhelmed with fear of getting caught to act again.

Personally I believe it takes a lot more out of you to kill someone than these people expected, especially when they are "regular citizens" and not people steeped in a violent life style, especially if they only rely on thoughts and not visual content online, the latter two numbs and desensitise you to suffering.
But if you are a "regular" human before acting on violent thoughts I do believe that the shock of what killing someone entails is so great that no matter if you still have awful thoughts you will never act on it again.

Just to take a very small example, I haven't gone into the thread of troon surgery for a year or so and I know I'm going to be very nauseous when I take it up because I've lost being desensitised to gore and nasty stuff, and I know it only takes a few months to get sensitised again to that kind of content.
So imagine how you would feel when going from your thoughts to real life sensations.
