Hope none of you are playing OctoWow. Heard their installer has spyware. Kronos launched yesterday. heard it had a pretty rocky start but it seems stable now.
I liked Turtle WoW and I can't do Ascension because it's so not-hard, but I hate the private server subreddit. It's full of melodramatic fags who say things like "we're refugees" and "people are looking for a new home". Can these people get a grip? It's a private server that was developed by people who specialized in such things since forever, it's not like you lost a kid, It's a 22 year old game.

I looked it up and found hardly any info on it specifically. That being said, running 3rd party clients or old software with security flaws will always carry a risk. Especially when there's money involved. Or a bunch of discord weirdos, who if given any crumb of power will eventually abuse it.

I found this though:

PSA: Think twice about what you have open when you play private servers

Blizzard have always advertised that just connecting to a private server brings risks. This used to be scoffed at in the community, until Warmane started exploiting a clever remote code exploit in the client to run arbitrary code without players even knowing. As this became more popular, patches were built to try and prevent the RCE, but ultimately there is no good solution. There is no known example of this being used maliciously, but I think it very unethical and open to abuse.

I have recently been show evidence of large private servers scanning outside of the WoW process as part of anti-hacks.

https://i.imgur.com/lvs1XzZ.png

This is logging your IP address, account details, and open window titles to a Discord and a private database. It is not being used maliciously, but obviously this data breaches various data protection laws and what got Blizzard in a lot of bad press for in 2005 and which they subsequently discontinued.

Blizzard's version was far less intrusive. There was known window titles they wanted to look for, and they asked the client to compare the window title to a known hash and send back true/false as a confirmation of whether it is open. Large private servers are now arbitrarily scanning open processes on your computer and sending and publishing all that data. I think that is far too intrusive personally.

Sources for the old Blizzard drama:

So this thread acts as a public service announcement. There is no evidence of anything malicious happening, but you do need to be careful about what you do when you are playing these private servers and what data could be captured by them. Even if the original server owners never plan to do anything malicious, that database could be exploited in the future. These private servers operate as large illegal businesses, and they are not beholden to common data protection regulations and standards. This is not meant to be fear-mongering, but rather raising awareness of what these servers are doing behind the scenes and what data they are capturing.

LMAO they're spying on his anime cuck porn

If you see spyware accusations thrown around then it's likely just another private server doing this meme:

Are there any actual proof that this is happening? I remember that even back when the in-game report system was first added people were telling rumors how organized groups were getting people banned by mass reporting them in BGs etc.
This is Blizzard adjacent, but there is a Warcraft 3/Heroes of the Storm/Starcraft streamer (Grubby) who got mass reported and temp banned while streaming a few years ago. Happened in real time and he got it resolved rather quickly.

He's a virtually squeaky clean guy, was a former esports competitor and a commentator for Blizzard esports shite, so it was a pretty clear cut case. I can't imagine that Blizzard would create totally unique systems for their various games and would likely just use the same system/infrastructure/whatever for each of them.

I have been subbed since housing came out and have found Midnight to be enjoyable. I got a fun high production value fantasy RPG experience out of it.

I have sunk a lot of time into building my two houses. I thought that going through the new campaign story and raids was enjoyable enough. Some neat tracks. The raid boss fights were pretty fun to do on launch day when everyone was undergeared. Soloing Tier 11 delves and the delve villain on ?? difficulty, and doing Nightmare difficulty hunts were also fun during the first few weeks before the ilevel cap was raised.

Once you beat the story, the only real thing left to continue decorating your house, push M+, do RBGs to get a vicious saddle mount, and/or participate in RP campaigns on Moon Guard. Currently I have gotten all of the housing decor I want out of what is available, so I am waiting on the devs to expand housing with more items, room types, and functionality before I continue working on my houses.

M+ has been neat. This is the easiest M+ season ever. You can get myth track gear - the highest ilevel gear in the game - easily by doing 10s even if you have never done M+ before. Blizzard added a 3,400 rating achievement that lets you buy any prior M+ mount as an apology. Anyone can hit 3,000 pretty easily, but beyond that you will want to run with friends or find a team or a discord if you can, as the PUG culture has become very bad with people quitting at the drop of a hat and bricking keys.

Blood DK just got buffed and is very easy to pilot in M+. You just hit dancing rune weapon to keep your parry up, run into a pack and press blood boil to aggro the pack, keep your bone shield stacks above 7, and then press heart strike to generate RP and death strike when you are low on HP or about to cap RP. Rotate behind Icebound Fortitude to further reduce damage. You can press Anti-Magic Shield to nullify a lot of boss mechanics that work by placing a debuff on you, and use Death's Advance to negate a lot of movement mechanics.

Decor duels were neat.

Installed the AzerothCore WotLK Repack with Individual progression, and it's just a nostalgia overload. Decided not to retrace my steps as a Gnome Warlock but started playing a Night Elf Druid. It's relaxing to just run around and do quest and collect shit.

How are the expansions after Wrath ? I remember trying to play Cata and Pandaria when they launched but stopped immediately at the time. Any expansion that are worth checking out ?

I concur on Pandaria. The zones are gorgeous and the storylines from each zone are pretty memorable and fun. If you can run the raids etc. solo, there are some great spectacle fights that are worth experiencing at least once. Especially Throne of Thunder, you better put on the ingame music and soak in the vibes.
Timeless Isle can fuck off, it's stupid and leads you into one of the worst decisions the writers made.

Legion is also worth experiencing, especially if you can control how fast you progress through class hall questlines. Suramar city as a whole is a vibe. My biggest complaint about Legion from a questing perspective is the final patch with Argus, it feels like a Timeless Isle 2.0 in regards to questing and the lore in general, BUT Antorus is a fantastic raid minus one boss fight.
All classes have a unique experience thanks to Class Halls and artifacts that are specific to your spec.

BFA maaaaaaaaay be worth your time, Alliance definitely has the cooler overall storyline but you can find some gold in the shit that is the Horde storyline. I still haven't played fully through BFA so take this with a grain of salt.

A very hesitant recommendation on Warlords - I enjoyed the individual zone storylines and the lore they attempted to set up, but due to a lot of cut content for both factions you would have to be a lore enthusiast to enjoy AU Draenor.

I cannot recommend Shadowlands or Dragonflight. If Warlords and BFA sharted on established canon, Shadowlands disintegrates established canon and Dragonflight builds up :optimistic: INCLUSIVE:optimistic: canon, ruining whatever was left of cool or interesting lore and character dynamics.

I’ve thought about doing this — does it require a beefy PC?

I never did the Alliance side but the Horde side was ass. I had more fun going to the Alliance zones in war mode.

I liked delving into the Zandalari as tentative allies with them rather than enemies, like in MoP. It's just sad they astroturfed the Zandalari so hard and turned them into diet Wakanda (and then further destroyed the Zandalari and the Amani and every other troll race after BFA (:_() because god damn, the trolls are all really cool if you look beyond the jamaican accents.
Nazmir is a good example of what Blizz did right/wrong. The blood trolls are rad. Seeing Bwonsamdi's pyramid for the first time with the blood moon looming behind it is rad. The rotting body of a loa that you can explore is fucking rad.

But of the two major factions in BFA, the Kultiran have the best writing by far. They're also a lot less explored in previously established canon as they're just another flavour of human, which is milquetoast and safe prior to BFA. The Drust are really cool. I've only dabbled in the Alliance zones from Horde perspective so I only have 30% of the facts, so again YMMV.

Yeah the quests interacting with him are the best, but everything else in unforgettable. I remember the turtle people, as well as the stupid minigame world quests for them, but the rest is mostly forgettable.

Not to mention all of the turtle world quests are bugged to fuck, even in current year. BFA was 2018.
ANOTHER TURTLE MADE IT TO THE WATER.

Good question but I have no definite answer, unfortunately. The game itself probably is not the issue but the bots you are running. You can tweak it a bit by reducing the amount of bots for example, but it doesn't take to long to download and set it up so I would just suggest giving it a go.

Re: Blizzard banning over chickenshit reports this shit happened a few days ago

Guy complains about automated response to asking about his ban, the CS Janny twitter account tells him naughty words are strictly forbidden by the TOS

Then a Bluepost throws that guy under the bus over it and says it's more complicated then that.

So maybe don't swear on retail or else the first fag will ban you idk

What faggot even reports someone for swearing? Such a non-issue considering the game has a mature filter on by default

Where would I find the things I need to run this, I've only ever dabbled in extremely childfriendly explanations for pservers that others have run, like Chromiecraft and Nostalrius.

You google this: AzerothCore WoTLK Repack
And you should find the OwnedCore forums with the thread by Aldebaraan. There are links to his repack and the client. And a quick explanation how to set it up.

Thank you, that's what I was looking at already. I now know it's not a virus lol.
