I never saw that and I played at random hours of the day.
I have played as work and life permits since 2017~

The server has a chat plenty political as any other; not that it really matters.
The biggest 'community' problem of the server for the longest time that made it indigestible to a larger population (that they really only started fixing around 2022? I forget when seasonal play started.) was the rampant exploit abuse and build gatekeeping that meant for the longest time you had a cabal of gatekeepers who would jump from bugged talents to bugged talents abusing everyone else in endgame pvp.

Dont get me wrong as I said prior I LOVED laughingskull but truthfully end game pvp was a nightmare if you ran into any of the powerplayers.

Thankfully as soon as seasonal play was introduced they really cleaned up a lot of their modifcations and mechanics and while there is always something to abuse it was very limited in comparison. That and they made sharing builds easier.

Not that it matters now since blizzard is getting serious; though truthfully seeing how much money they made and knowing how easy it is to put these servers together I wouldnt be suprised if someone in a non-extradition country craps out a copy.

Perhaps I've been a little too harsh against ai in the past. I was able to get AzerothCore running on Bazzite through podman containers thanks to Gemini of all ai. There are guides for Debian and Ubuntu but not any Fedora distro. Now I'm gaming on the big screen and as a fun leftover from playing it on Steam Deck, my controller mappings remained saved to my Steam Account. I just gotta remap my keybindings in game and I'm good to go. I'm in awe that I got it to work.

Fuck all these falling private servers. I'll just make my own.

How sorry a state is retail in that the majority of the past few pages has just been talking about private servers?
Retail is retail and if you like retail it's retail/10 but this is a gay drama website at the best of times and there's not much gay drama to be had in retail and there is gay drama to be had in private servers.

I think I was a little harsh on Chromiecraft a while back. It really is a diamond in the rough out of all the private servers. Azerothcore and open source servers are the only long-term future and I'm really glad you and others are having fun with your setups.

Retail is great for what it is: you login and play for a couple weeks or a month when a new patch comes out, and then you go play other games. If you are expecting a lifestyle MMO to keep you addicted each day every day like in the 2000s, then you will be disappointed.

Yeah, I've been tempted to drop back in again after a couple of years break but retail is pretty much just: new patch/expansion drops, you hit the cap/finish the questline and then it's on to logging in once a day/week to collect the gated limit of whatever new currency that was created so that you can buy some cosmetics or a new mount.

Are there any MMOs anymore that you can just log in and play for a few hours? I've been eyeing Guildwars Reforged and ESO to play on the Steamdeck but it's honestly hard to get a decent opinion on them on their subreddits because everything is always amazing according to reddit.

I'm looking forward to Everquest Legends; basically it's a concept they stole from a private server where you play release Everquest but with some modern touches and also a Pick 3 classes and play them at the same time. Power level means most if not all content should be soloable. Probably helps if you have some nostalgia for everquest though. Preorder beta starts July 1st and full release after reset is late July.
