Zoomer Kiwi Central / Serious Gen Z Discussion - A place for Zoomers to have a discussion about the Gen Z and their future

What older generations don't understand, particularly boomers and parts of Gen X who sit in front of cable news all day, is that we don't want to work to be miserable. We're trying to build something for ourselves that we can be proud of. A savings account, a decent investment portfolio, acquiring some worth while items that make us happy and improve our living, maybe being able to have a couple small trips, being home at reasonable hours, benefits*, not being micromanaged into insanity. I remember seeing some posts on how welding shops are having problems finding welders, and then the follow-up is that McDonald's is paying more and has benefits. I'm sorry, a skilled trade paying less over a teenager job is not right, and you can bet your ass it's because the retarded boomer who owns the shop bought himself the new pickup truck top trim package and now has an auto loan at $2,200/mo. I've had this argument with my mother as well at times (luckily she understands now), and would occasionally pull the "Oh well we had to do it the hard way so how is it fair that you shouldn't." They'll completely miss the point, like do you not understand we don't want it to be the hard way? Yeah, hard days do happen, but the idea that we have to be working hard every day is what we're arguing against.
At what age do you think you will get these things?

I had shitty parents and no drive. Spent most of my twenties working off the books for a rich boomer for peanuts. Decided I couldn't live like this and did two years of school for a job that had a good starting salary but a pretty low ceiling. Had a shitty rental that ate most of my paycheck but saved for buying a condo/house. Had a kid so I had to get a car which ate up part of my savings. Then the house market went fucking nuts so I had to get a condo. Had to loan a shitload of money at about the same time the rates went nuts but I made sure I had some headroom but went negative cash flow for a few months. Was above water and could pay down the loan heavily for a few years until the next kid and now we're living hand to mouth again until we both start working. With normal expenses we should have about a $200 surplus each month but then of course the car breaks and incurs $1500 repair costs. But life is good. We have food, we have heat and we are dry. I will start to be able to pay down the loans and invest money in about a year and I'm in my forties. I started about a decade late so this is what you can expect your thirties to be like.

What I'm hearing from hiring managers is that young people just starting out are asking for starting salaries on par with someone with 10-20 years of experience and they had to make checklists to visually show the kids that to get that kind of money you need to have experience in all these different areas. Then when they show up late and leave early and you put then on PIP then they quit or get fired.

Boomers had it fucking easy and could buy a car with a summer job and a modest house with three years of savings in a job that only required high school with the hiring process being a firm handshake and eye contact.

Shits fucked but younger zoomers still have completely fucked up expectations. Life is struggle, it always was.

When I look at a job I ask myself one thing. Do I earn more stocking shelves at a supermarket or warehouse. If the answer is yes then the job better be fucking comfy as hell cause I'd rather walk 8 hours each day with 20kg in my hand then waste my fucking time.
That's the thing about the job market. It's a giant waste of fucking time. You have people wearing clothes and watches that cost as much as my car offering me a job that barely covers utilities, fuel and food. Go to Uni? Or get a trade? Congrats starting jobs are still less than working at a supermarket. Oh looking at middle rung assuming you stick with it for a decade? You'd make less than a middle manager at a fast food place or supermarket. If you do everything right for twenty years of your life maybe just maybe you'd make 25% more than a regional manager.
There are soo many people right now that claim to be cut throat but get offended that I and many others don't give two shits about "Prestige". Because prestige doesn't mean anything for my well being.
And then there are the old farts that claim to be oh so compassionate under paying as much as they can and get once again offended when you tell them to pound sand.

They really don't.

The fact is everything has gone up significantly, especially after 2020. Even something as basic as an apartment is looking for over $1000 a month in many areas, with many wanting to see you making x3 the rate. We are far beyond the just a little struggle, Boomers need to eat shit in some form or another given the conditions they drafted up. Either their housing needs to be worth less, their employees worth more, or their shit can crash and burn.
Young people aren't being that crazy in expectations. Everything has soared and now they expect a wage that should at least allow them to live alone (not even going to say massive house or apartment). The fact this bare minimum can barely be met by most of America's economy is the bigger issue than Z demanding more.

I was looking for an apartment, saw something somewhat decent, iffy price and then I saw that they asked me to have an income 3x the rent. Are we fucking serious? I live paycheck to paycheck, even while still living with my parents, because I have nowhere else to go. It's not even embarrassing anymore to say that you live with your parents because it's just a given at this point for young people. Everyone around my age that I'm friends with live with their parents, it's the norm. My girlfriend has an apartment, but she's clinging on for dear life to keep that thing. She has to take two jobs to afford food and shelter. I feel bad to ask to go out with her because she wants to pay for things herself and she can barely afford to. This is ridiculous. People back then could afford shelter, sustenance, and then some. Now we can barely afford one or the other. If I didn't freelance, I would be shit out of luck affording anything luxury let alone standards.

Any of the older Zs here feel completely invisible
No one hears a word I say.
Gen Z spends almost 85% less on drinking than prior generations They are also now more likely to be out of the job market, single, and have no sex What is going on?"
I think that getting absolutely drunk in public is best done with a friend group as a safety guarantee which a lot of Gen Z don't really have. There's also more risk to it than prior generations: it used to be that if you did something embarrassing while intoxicated, people in the local area might know about it, but it'd probably fade from memory as long as you didn't routinely do things like it, whereas nowadays if you do the same thing even just once in your life, you could be recorded and the entire world could know about it which can affect you and your family for years to come, like with employment for example.

there's just so much common sense that has flown directly over millenial's heads and as a consequence they have gone around needlessly breaking down cultural norms, even those they enjoyed during their childhood. it's also been previously mentioned how they complain at length about christian fundamentalists yet the more feminist/activist members of that generation have literally adopted the same exact takes but with different labels on them. fundamentalists opposed sexualization in media because "it's a sin", completely ignoring precedent like the song of songs (iykyk). feminists opposed sexualization in media because "muh objectifying women".

both these views pushed a lot of people towards porn and other fucked up shit as they had been trained that anything sexual = bad, yet most people cannot go 100% monk mode so it is inevitable that many men will go "fuck it, i'm gonna go all in on the bad" and succumb to the pornsickness. you can see this with gen z, and in particular the incel "movement" - collapse of social norms left legions of young men single, shunned, isolated, etc before their sexuality had even developed and as a result of that + the artificial availability of hardcore pornography many became serious gooners. however developed human instinct (LOGIC) and what little tradition & religion we have left recognizes that pornography is bad. so now you have teens & preteens, who still are developing their worldview & sexuality (not in an LGBT way I mean vanilla heterosexual relations) having their worldview warped by porn and their sexuality effectively shaped by it from the very start. these guys recognize that porn and masturbation is dogshit, yet both are the only sexuality they have, so they begin to hate that-and as they are attracted to women, therein lies the hostility towards women. we should feel bad for these people instead of demonizing them as bigots or misogynists or gooners or anything else as they have been psychologically skullfucked.
ive said this before here but it's better expressed in this post. we are a nation of gooners

Talking about apartments, there is a shitty trick some younger Zoomers need to watch out for that I would like to share. I was touring an apartment block, it had an advertised rent of something around $1400 a month. I was trying to follow the financial rule of "Don't spend more than 30% of your income on rent" and this place was still nice while being much lower than the 30% rule. When I was in the office, the office worker asked for what my salary was, and after telling her she swung the computer monitor around to show me the list of apartments available to rent. The same unit I wanted that was previously $1400 a month had shot up past $2000, eating up a considerable portion of my yearly income and much more than 30% overall. I now try to low ball these office workers when I am picking an apartment by telling them my salary is whatever makes the advertised rent %30 of my yearly income, and its worked out twice so far resulting in no "sudden price adjustments" right before I sign the lease. I imagine one day they might want verification, but I don't think it will turn out badly when my proof of employment shows a higher salary than what I told them, maybe.
at least allow them to live alone
The fact that many Boomers and Gen-Xers think wanting to live alone in a studio apartment is a luxury belief annoys me very much. You put in all the work to get a job, whether thats university or an apprenticeship, and now you are expected to live with some other bums just to make rent? Why try in the first place if all that effort got me barely better off than the McDonalds wagie who dropped out of high school.
don't want to work to be miserable.
Don't be so selfish, we instead work to pay off Boomer social security payments.

Yeah, hard days do happen, but the idea that we have to be working hard every day is what we're arguing against.
Or at least see a light at the end of the tunnel.
Using my workplace as an example, if you're fully licensed, you make $22 base pay, +$1 for each liscense for $24 an hour. Average base pay in my industry is $32 an hour, outliers on the high end removed. Also, top out pay where I work, is also $32 an hour. Why would I stay at this sucky job long term, if the absolute best I can get, regardless of my effort or skill, is average?
What I'm hearing from hiring managers is that young people just starting out are asking for starting salaries on par with someone with 10-20 years of experience
This is meaningless without industries and numbers. How many years of experience do you think it should take for someone to make the average wage?

i’ve come to realize that a lot of the issues with American society isn’t a free trade thing as much as it is relying on a single currency, i’ve kind of been advocating for either ending the federal government or reducing its power, abolishing the federal reserve would go along way to basically eliminating the hate culture online, I don’t honestly think everyone serving in the government is bad but there’s clearly sociopathic tendencies among the ultra wealthy, the crisis isn’t so much as people not being able to buy things but to know how to buy things, it’s honestly why I’ve started to see the culture war as gay and a distraction to consoomer rights, like if a white gen z catholic guy wanted to move to florida there’s nothing legally stopping him, literally a lot of wokeness from after occupy wall street was in part because The Wall Street boomers got mad at people criticising them so they needed a distraction to keep tards fighting, now that people are really getting annoyed with it a lot of people are starting to take to the internet, there’s obviously a demand for nuance and intellectual content starting to pop up on social media, like there’s a lot of domains that are basically unused for the masses to buy if they have even the slightest idea how to invest and sell stock, like people are saying boomers don’t care about isolation and it’s true, suburban kids are depressed and scared for their future due to a lack of job market, and really that’s what makes them prime recruiting for radical retards on the left and right, really the moment the government shut down the internet or shut down digital goods there would be mass riots in the streets, really that’s what the government wants to avoid, but there’s so many competing interests that governing a country this large and ethnically diverse with a population that likes different things makes an authoritarian state basically impossible, again the boomers are mad, millennials and zoomers people are getting madder at they’re psychosis, it’s honestly a question of how much longer do those before around 1960 really start to die off before things fully normalize again (which it’s kind of starting, America is a consumerist society at the end of the day and any such thing to stop that is a catalyst for mass violence)

I remember getting a job in the beginning of 2020. It was in the exact trade i went to school for, I was fired shortly after because I "didn't meet expectations", oh and the pay was shit (poverty level). I get paid way more now with a simple packing job.

This is meaningless without industries and numbers. How many years of experience do you think it should take for someone to make the average wage?
To reach average wage you probably need to be a doctor or lawyer. I've never even looked at that number. Usually the number you use is median wage.

I'm not gonna power level but I've put in ten years gone up a few positions and now make just above median wage in an expensive area and that is about the pay scale I can expect going forward unless I start my own company or go up to management.

Not one of you have answered my question. At what age do you expect to have a house loan, be able to invest, own a car and go on expensive vacations?

I think Gen Z's shaping up to be the worst generation since the boomers. They're not bluepilled like previous generations, but a huge subset of Gen Z's mentality has become, "I'm going to spend years mourning the life I could have lived while I kill myself working a warehouse job, and I will vent about Jeff Bezos/Israel/Capitalists every single day while smoking and drinking and making no real plans to attain financial freedom. If anyone calls me out on my loser mentality, I'll just call them a boomer and bring up bootstraps."

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of Millennials and Gen X in the work force actually mog their zoomer counterparts even with the age debuff, because so many zoomers really don't put effort into their jobs. They're committed to doing the bare minimum at work because of their mindset. It's bleak

Ok, let’s remove the house and vacations.

At the bare minimum, I would expect a full-time position to be able to afford to live alone in an apartment, potentially have some savings. Ideally a McJob should be able to cover this minimum, but that ship has sadly long sailed, even though it was possible at one point. If you must get a monetary amount, I would realistically say current year works off 55K-60K annually as a bare minimum living expense in many areas. That at least puts you above having a whole paycheck go solely to apartment costs, not including gas, electricity, etc..

I don’t think anyone here could give you an answer to the vacations and house, we mostly see it as unrealistic at this point. If I had to pinpoint a range that you could realistically go that route, it’d probably be well into the 70K-80K bracket, probably more six figures.

I don’t think it is being shitty to ask that the bare minimum should at least be able to be met by college graduate age, so 22-23. That should give a buffer of 4 years to school/training which is more than reasonable to be hitting those amounts.

Given current conditions, the gen will likely be a 50/50 split of people competent enough to take care of themselves post current year, and those that commit suicide, literally and theoretically. We are definitely going to be “the lost generation” given we are smack dab in the middle of a socio-political, and economical upheaval in America.

The old world they were being built up for is coming to an end, which means those who can adapt and take the shit will be the success stories. Also helps if they have family backing them through this.

Not one of you have answered my question. At what age do you expect to have a house loan, be able to invest, own a car and go on expensive vacations?
Because your question is dogshit.
House: I already own one but that's cause the housing market over here is really good and I got help.
Invest: 30-35
Own a car: I already own one. A ten year old car is about 5 years of saving minimum wage, so 25 I guess.
Expensive vacations: Never.

expensive vacations
Weed and video games are just like vacations but instead of having to talk to people and having to go outside and take a shower and all that stressful stuff, I can just lie in my underwear all day while living off of stimulus checks and doordash.

I asked it in reply to someone who mentioned these these things but maybe not vacations. If you expect these things by 22 you're living in a fantasy and that person needs to adjust their expectations because that was never a thing even for the boomers.

I agree that traveling is mostly pointless but some people think its the purpose in life even above procreating.

Pining for what the boomers had is pointless it is living in the past. Just giving up and whining will never get you anything you want in any era and a few posters in this thread just appears to want a pity party. Some expectations are unreasonable and some are extremely reasonable like expecting 40 hours to get you an appartment without roomates and the ability to eat out a few times a month and afford a beater and modest savings.

I agree that traveling is mostly pointless but some people think its the purpose in life even above procreating.
Those people are vapid women and fruity men and it's good they won't reproduce.

Now this may be my inherent paranoia. But I don't feel comfortable with traveling because the world is getting less safe each day. Right now my list of safe to travel to is Eastern Europe and Parts of East Asia and Parts of South America. I'm never ever going to any Western European nation, especially to a large "historical/cultural" city like Rome or Paris because I don't feel like getting culturally enriched into the past tense. Sure there are things there that I want to see and with some precautions I might end up fine but keeping my head on a swivel and never relaxing sounds like the opposite thing I want to do with my free time.

What threads have the most zoomers even? I always assumed the threads that were created later on past 2020/2021, or generally have more chronically online drama tend to have more zoomers. Whenever I spoke to other people on the art drama threads, they were all mostly gen-Z queers, often joined the site while underage, but aren't anymore. I know a 2006 zoomer groomer who uses, or used this site, I don't got her handle(s) though because she tended to change her handles sporadically.

Usually the number you use is median wage.
Lucky you! Turns out, the difference between the national mean and median is a simple $900. So now, if you would, do answer my question. How many years of experience should one need, to make median (or mean, your choice) income?
At what age do you expect to have
a house loan,
Before 30, much like my parents and everyone before me (and younger the farther back you go). Unless of course, you would suggest that despite greater prosperity than ever before, the most important financial and life state milestone in one's life should be pushed back further
Be able to invest,
You should be able to invest once you leave the entry level postion, regardless of age. Maybe not invest a lot, but some.
Age 18 at the oldest. An urbanite like yourself can easily use public transport. If your job is not conveniently located 10 minutes away in a big city, a car is a necessity.
and go on expensive vacations?
I dunno, 30+? I don't really care about vacations; frankly I never even see those listed as complaints. Its a moot point.
