Zoomer Kiwi Central / Serious Gen Z Discussion - A place for Zoomers to have a discussion about the Gen Z and their future

"Gen Z spends almost 85% less on drinking than prior generations They are also now more likely to be out of the job market, single, and have no sex What is going on?"
So many bars and clubs shut down during covid and never recovered, and alcohol is 30% more expensive now than it was then. People forget the covid malaise dragged on for over a year and a half before things finally repaired enough to regain a veneer of normalcy again.

To go out, you have to order ubers or have a DD. People's friend groups are not big enough for DD typically so you're left paying an expensive uber $35 just to get to the venue where you can expect to pay minimum $9 a cheap mixed drink. Thats assuming no cover either. Add it up with drunk food after and you're looking at least $150 spent for one night out. Just another example of the affordability crisis showing up in spending, or lack thereof. The entire phenomenon of going out to a bar is dying and the club scene is on life support or dead if you don't live in south FL, NYC or LA. Zoomer social lives are still chronically undeveloped for those that were still in high school when covid hit. Most would rather play roblox, chat on discord, and share tiktoks than go to a party.

I was at a wedding recently and mingled with younger zoomers, several of them said they would rather stay in, smoke and watch a movie rather than go out. They came out to the bars for only a few hours while everyone older was out until 3am. A few of them actually brought up tiktok references in conversation that I didn't understand. Shits fucked.

TLDR: Gen Z socialise less often, so we drink less (because it's a social activity, at least in the West).

I think it's (at least in part), the latter. I've heard some people say that because the whole goddamn internet le phone bad shit, we zoomers have to be extra vigilant about what we say, lest one of us ends up as the next lolcow.

I don't think that's 100% of the picture however. I feel it may also be because Gen Z was the first generation to grow up with access to the Internet; and thus, the ability to communicate with people across the world. I feel zoomers speak more to people online than in real life, and you don't exactly drink over the phone, do you?
I agree, the downward trend in drinking among zoomers is often touted as a conscious, healthy decision but I think it’s more a symptom of how much interaction happens online and the decreased need for alcohol to get through socializing or parties. Weed is a better drug for isolating than alcohol as well, so it makes sense that zoomers smoke more instead.

I’ve actually kind of thought the current 2020s clown world crisis, It seems like less of an economic issue and more of a Boomers not preparing their children for adult life issue, there are serious issues don’t get me wrong like the job market but history is basically the story of control freaks getting into the upper class and fucking getting destroyed.

A lot of Zoomers don’t actually know how to balance their life at all, even i am still learning it and im earlier in the generation where the internet wasn’t an instant load type of deal

and really if we ever get internet democratization to back and monopolies over things like video sharing sites will be because people get fatigued of angerslop, like you look up a game on youtube and you’ll usually get some retarded opinionslop about how horrible it is (it’s usually a 7/10 or a 8/10) yeah it might eventually get people to get hooked but people will get annoyed after awhile and walk away

Basically Gen Beta and Gen Gamma should not be permitted unrestricted internet access, and judging by how Gen Z seems to be catching onto the algorithm con, we may actually get that for the few of us who have kids

Zoomers aren’t the children of Boomers. They are the children of Gen Xers and maybe some early millenials.

Millenials are mostly raising Gen Alpha

Gen Beta will be raised by later millenials / zillenials and zoomers

my parents were arguably gen Xers but it does kinda blur the line because im a zillenial and the generations really make no sense on a 15 year cycle, my parents were in their mid-30s when they had me what this really goes to show is that modern american society operates on a roughly three decade cycle in terms of overall happiness of the under 30 population

50s,80s,2000s: Happy 20-29 year old population
60s,90s,2010s: Moderately happy but also kinda bad
70s,2020s: Shit,angry,and pessimistic

First: Thank you for feeling confident enough to share that with us.
Second: Checks out.

As the other guy said, the parents aren't necessarily boomers, but I don't believe its entirely the parent's fault that modern kids are the way that they are.
I believe that the problem is that modern children are so infantilized by both society and parents, that they aren't allowed to make mistakes and gain experience in the world. Through this, it's somehow the youth's fault that theyre retarded even though nobody wants to give them a chance to not be retarded.

this, like a lot of people around that age just seemed to like way too permissive, partially due to not understanding technological advancements, around they were our age, maybe slightly younger when the whole Watergate Shit happened, and my parents dont even remember anything from the 70s despite having lived through it, ive never heard them talk about Nixon,Ford,or Carter, (my dad has praised Reagan and Obama but complained about Biden and Trump) it does kind of make me question if the United States can continue as a single entity without this sort of 30 year emotion cycle, I mean we have a population with fundamentally different beliefs in 8 different directions with different cultures, i mean just look at Congress, you can have a house rep from Louisiana vote on a law that is binding for Massachusetts, weve literally started to have the same sort of arguments the Founder's were having, I do kind of question whether having the Federal Government is even like a good thing outside of common defense (which actually was another argument)

Millennials fucked it up by making school and early life soft for future generations over things like micro aggressions, trigger warnings and social justice. Anyone who bitched loud enough was able to get uncomfortable aspects of life and school removed and then everything had to be gay, retarded and dumbed down. The peak of the 'social justice' millennials came from gays, trannies, tumblr and the feminist revival of the early to mid 2010s. Instead of getting slapped and told to shut up, everyone went along with their demands.

This all came to a crescendo in 2019-2021 with Biden. We had nigger worship of Saint Floyd in 2020 and racial discourse seeped in lunacy. After they went too far with blacks and trannies, shit finally started getting pushed back with zoomers who came of age and the public who realized they fucked up. All that helped fuel the third wave of Trump. Id argue Biden didn't win in 2020, but his admin was an inflection point for wokeness. The 2024 election was a sharpe rebuke of such thinking.

Any of the older Zs here feel completely invisible to society at times? I was having a conversation the other day with my mom and how I'm kinda pissed that my part of Z (late 90s and very early 00s) seems to be completely forgotten about at times. Like it feels that all mainstream talk was on Millennials and then suddenly Gen Z, but not the Gen Z that graduated high school in the mid to late 2010s.

Yeah it kinda shows in lack of relatable media for young people that would reflect current years, at least where I live. No decent coming-of-age series or movies for teens and students, no journalistics and no books that arent copypaste YA fantasy-slop.
When people talk about teen movies, the newest they can recall is from goddamn 2005 or 2007. As for books, it's something about drug addicts in the 90's.

Being the least relevant part of most likely the least relevant generation is a bit ass. I can sort of understand the silent generation monicker.
It also sort of is exacerbated by how it's hard to find people of my age group even online. I got a decent sized group but older zoomies are few. So I get to listen to millennials bitch about younger gen z and younger gen z being young and dumb.

yes, i’ve actually noticed the few Zillenials i actually encounter irl are like sick of 2020s culture, I think the the one thing that sets us apart from younger Zoomers and Alphas is the ability to remember what things were pre wifi

Real and True. I think most people just group everyone born after 97 but before 01 in with Millennials, and truth be told, our upbringing was probably closer to there’s,

Zillennial sounds like a term that might fix the issue of me being constantly read as much younger than I actually am. It was strange to live a life that back then was weird, and now it's mainstream. AZAP assigned zoomer at perception.

In all seriousness though, do things truly change so quickly these days or is there something wrong with a generation label supposedly covering 15 years or so? It's a really long time. According to wikipedia, Boomers are born in 1946-1964 which is almost 20 years. Surely early Boomers are different from late Boomers? Early ones were definitely still shaped by the outcomes of WW2, meanwhile those who were born in 1960 or maybe even a few years earlier were literally growing up in a different world.

i notice that society talks about gen z like we're some failed lab experiment, it's also endless statistics on how gen z is drinking less and socializing with nobody and is the most depressed generation in history but nobody does anything to actually fix it.

I was thinking about this the other day actually. Alcohol has not evolved in the same way other drugs have. There has been no innovation in how it is consumed. There is no alcohol "vape". You go into a smoke shop and there all sorts of vapes with different flavors, resins, gummy edibles, weed paraphernalia completely eclipses that of alcohol. You can still go a get some bottom shelf vodka and have a great time, but you can't have that with you all time or sneak that into places (as easily).

I remember smoking weed reeked to high hell and you had to convince your parents that skunks just happen to be where you and your friends hang out all the time. But now you can buy concentrated THC that will send you to mars and unless someone catches you actively doing it, no one will be the wiser.

>Mom went on another rant on how le new generation doesn't want to work
For FUCK'S sake, i love my mother but sometimes she has the most retarded niggerbrained takes imaginable that if it were anyone else i would smash their head in until a mere pulp was left. No mom, zoomers aren't working because they don't want to, it's because nearly all the job listings on indeed are fabricated and there seems to be hardly any places willing to take people in person from my experience. The job market is FAKE AND GAY

What older generations don't understand, particularly boomers and parts of Gen X who sit in front of cable news all day, is that we don't want to work to be miserable. We're trying to build something for ourselves that we can be proud of. A savings account, a decent investment portfolio, acquiring some worth while items that make us happy and improve our living, maybe being able to have a couple small trips, being home at reasonable hours, benefits*, not being micromanaged into insanity. I remember seeing some posts on how welding shops are having problems finding welders, and then the follow-up is that McDonald's is paying more and has benefits. I'm sorry, a skilled trade paying less over a teenager job is not right, and you can bet your ass it's because the retarded boomer who owns the shop bought himself the new pickup truck top trim package and now has an auto loan at $2,200/mo. I've had this argument with my mother as well at times (luckily she understands now), and would occasionally pull the "Oh well we had to do it the hard way so how is it fair that you shouldn't." They'll completely miss the point, like do you not understand we don't want it to be the hard way? Yeah, hard days do happen, but the idea that we have to be working hard every day is what we're arguing against.
