Unpopular opinions about food

If you actually believe that, then you've been eating the wrong desserts your whole life.
If you think this, please recommend some desserts! I am open to trying new foods, but I feel like a lot of desserts are a bit too decadent/sweet for my taste. It's hard to beat a perfectly ripe mango imo...

Given how much great pastries are served with rich fruit fillings, i agree completely with you
I don't like "rich" desserts, and I think they can be a bit too sugary for my preference. I prefer the clean taste and feeling of eating fruit vs a pastry that has a lot of butter and sugar

Strawberries have plenty sugar, but sugar is also a plant with plenty of itself. Cows eat sugar cane and strawberries and produce mylk that's made into said butter, then gets added same natural sugar.... Provided it's actually made fresh and without preservatives and other added shit.*

Your move.

There are fresh fruit tarts. Strawberry shortcake. Sorbets (I have one that is just pureed frozen watermelon with a little fresh squeezed lemon or lime juice and maybe some mint).

Good point, I just prefer fruits by themselves over the combination of what you just described. It's not for health reasons, I'm just picky about sweets lol

Okay, this does sound very good. I might take a crack at making sorbet, the watermelon seems like it would be delicious.

A good tiramisu should fit your criteria nicely.
Is there a less sweet version of this?

Japanese/Chinese/Korean style desserts. They still use some sugar but it's a much more delicate taste that relies on flavors like red bead paste, agar, and rice flour, and you even get salty or bitter elements with soy sauce or matcha.

Also if you bake your own desserts you can slash the sugar amounts by quite a bit before the recipe falls apart.

The one I've used consistently despite it cost is Earth Balance. The flavor is inoffensive and back when I was switching from real butter to margarine, it was the best tasting and was as close to real butter as I could get at the time. So I stuck with it. Most marg has that oil taste, and I didn't get that with Earth Balance.
I was going to ask if it was Earth Balance. Some of their versions are pretty good (original whipped buttery spread iirc), but others have a weirdly fishy taste. I think the fishy one I had was the olive oil version.

That being said, the rare times I decide to get margarine, it's gonna be Earth Balance.

Yes I've eaten a lot of this growing up. Especially tang yuan and sesame balls with red bean filling. I still prefer fresh fruit lol

I think the key is the freshness. I live somewhere where decent quality produce is hard to get hold of, but a fresh tomato is such a sensory overload. I adore mangos, even the shit supermarket ones have more complexity of flavour than most deserts. Often by the time its been cooked half of the volatiles and depth of flavour is lost and replaced with sugar.

I agree that the deserts that balance some other elements (bitter chocolate or coffee, some chilli, salt, sharp citrus etc) make for the best ones.

Rhe subtlety and complexity of fresh fruit knocks most deserts out of the park though. I know you mean by the "clean feeling" too. And it's easy to feel stodgy and nauseous after too much rich food.

Unpopular opinion:

Mr. Beast candy is actually really good

like REALLY good

they are 89 cents and better than Ree Sees
My Costco has been trying to get rid of them for months. Giant bags are down to $4.97.

To me, less is more when it comes to food. I consider myself someone who enjoys trying new foods, but the majority of burgers/sandwiches out are loaded up with too many toppings. For example, the McDonald’s Golden Arch burger. It was alright to me until I got a bite with the fried onions. The addition of fried onions on a half pound burger was too much for me. I do feel I am more sensitive to greasy food than the average American though. Not sure how unpopular this is, but I’m at a point now where I’d rather eat at home than go out to a restaurant because I prefer the way I cook over restaurants throwing a bunch of shit together and seeing what sells.

I feel Ciabatta is overrated. It's so plain and just tastes like white flour. There are many tastier breads out there. Maybe I would change my mind if I had a chance to try some in Italy, but at least the ones sold here are kind of underwhelming.

Edit. word

Feels like the idea here isn't the taste but the texture to enclose toppings and spreads into something that won't distract from them, or you just had store bleached ones.
