I think twitter and facebook work in tandem to accidentally ruin everything. Facebook is sort of a virality cauldron--Tweets can come at you from anywhere, but FB is basically just a confirmation bias machine. You can make the garbage "news" out of Tweets, and then Facebook (and Google News, really) will propel it into garbage news people take as gospel.

The really interesting part is watching how different people get entirely different sets of "news." Blue FB and Red FB are literally unaware of what the other team is even reading about a lot of the time.

Ah, yes, the imperialist rhetoric of the 1860s. It was a Republican administration then, as well. Of course, winning the civil war and abolishing slavery is nothing to be proud of. There were imperialist campaigns against the native Americans, but I don't think anyone called them savage orientals. I'm sure they've read historical sources I haven't. :optimistic:

If you're posting tears in the "I am literally crying over a Poland tweet" forum, then yeah. It wasn't aggression. It was a glorious crusade against the treasonous traitors down south.

(Seriously, I had no idea about this until I was a full grown adult, and folks who had grown up in Pennsylvania expressed their epic 160 year old salt over Robert E. Lee.)
