I think he also feels "safe" with RPGs. I've never played DQ7 so I don't know if this is the case, but Phil tends to "enjoy" RPGs because he can never engage with the system, just spam basic attacks and grind when that strategy inevitably fails until he's at the point where his basic attack spam wins. In his mind, there's also less of a chance of being shown as bad at gaming, like when he sprays bullets at someone's feet in COD or doesn't try to parry an attack until 10 seconds after it hit him in a Soulslike, or his panicked button mashing when his pattern play fails in SF. He can just claim the game is poorly made because a boss is OP and imply that you're expected to grind to level 99 to defeat a level 10 boss because it's an RPG.
