He always claims Jurassic Park by Crichton is his favourite book. I'll give him that, I find the book highly entertaining and read through it every few years myself. I always had a mind to go into his chat and ask a few detailed questions about the book, things that were not in the movie.

I assure you that DSP with millions of dollars would be no different. The thing with people addicted to spending money on stupid shit (like Bossman) is that it will never be enough. There's no dollar amount they could have in their bank account that would make them stop and go "Wow, I made it, and I don't have to act like this anymore". Well, occasionally like when Bossman was up 100 or 200 thousand dollars, but it doesn't last. The slow drip pressure of an unfed addiction eventually crushes any foolish, dissenting voices in their head telling them to do things to improve their life. *110.09 charged to your Apple account* The clarity they had in that moment fades and they suddenly can't remember why they were so concerned with something silly like saving for the future, or working out. *110.09 charged to your Apple account* I work really hard for my money and no one is allowed to tell me what to spend it on. *110.09 charged to your Apple account*.
2 dollars, 2 million, the only thing that changes is how much more they can ramp it up before they hit the bottom again.
I know this one. It's empathy. One of the things I've always found fascinating about DSP is how much closer he is to normal than a lot of lolcows. He is FAR from normal, but he is closer to baseline human than someone like Chris-Chan, and more relatable than someone like BMJ. We never really empathize with people like Chris, because we couldn't have ended up like him. He is a product of so many weird, fucked-up things that just didn't happen to us. In the case of DSP we know that we COULD have ended up like him. Phil is you in a Christmas-Carol-style alternate universe where you did everything wrong and nothing correct. If we never made an effort, if we never accepted accountability, if we never held ourselves responsible for our own lives, if we refused to grow up even just a bit, if we blindly indulged our base instincts with no concern for others or ourselves, we could have ended up just like him.
So, yeah, what you're feeling is normal human empathy. You can see how his entire situation is his own fault. He was given everything on the proverbial silver platter and threw it in the trash can. He had more opportunities, and more luck than any of us and we can see how every step of the way he chose to wreck it all by being a greedy retard.
The only difference between any of us and DSP is the choices we made. If this doesn't occasionally make you feel an intense, crushing feeling like you narrowly avoided being hit by a speeding bus, then I would be concerned. Otherwise, it simply indicates that you are still sane.

Pete Holmes is a god damn treasure. A comedian that can make people laugh while explaining why they shouldn't be shitty to each other instead of just getting on stage and talking about politics or what they saw in line at the store. Fuck "technique" because apparently it isn't that important. Being positive and funny is fucking hard, and that's why most comedians don't do it. They just complain about traffic or menstruation for an hour and get thier own TV show. Pete has genuinely gotten me to rethink some of my shitty thought habits. I'm not saying he changed my life, but I have found things he said on stage useful in my life more than once.

Okay but here's the thing. Lets say you have a job that for once isn't owning a sandwich shop. Lets say it's home repair or graphic design. You feel brave and decide to start a project. Halfway thru you realise you may be in over your head. Even if you took on this project alone you should admit that this was a misstep because you would look absolutely mad if you ended up taking on a 48-68 hour (the playtime for E33) project and stretching it to a year. I hope i made sense.

That isn't how Phil thinks. Literally he thinks almost exclusively in "Is this a win for the detractors/will I look bad?" and "Will I hit the goal doing this today? Not down the road, not tomorrow, TODAY." those are like 90% of his thoughts and the last 10% are gay thoughts about other men.

Will disagree here. Phil is argueably a bigger alien than CWC, and severely stupid even for lolcow standards, Just look at his vocabulary or stories from youth. It's hard for most people to see themselves in him once they know in detail how much of a dickhead narc Phil was since childhood, to the point he couldn't even buy people to hang out with him. Much of the A-logging (however lacking in trolling severity compared to even roughly similar cows like Wings and LTG) happens because Phil manages to be a seen as a massive asshole in spite of not committing any sex crime or other reprehensible act.

I can see his point though, when we think of the most base, normie, surface-level knowledge of DSP, he's just a dude who is shit at video games and begs, he doesn't have any notable physical deformities or profound mental illnesses. But as we've seen in the last few years that basest surface level image in the normie's mind is rapidly shifting. One of the biggest streamers in the world gave him a platform to run roughshod and hook as many new tarded fans as possible and that bump fizzled out in less than a week. The few Asmontards who decided to check out a DSP stream immediately saw either how mentally ill he is or they were confused as to why they couldn't talk or interact with him in chat at all without paying money or waiting for a ridiculous amount of time and then just bounced. Welcome... home.
Just like how him being shit at games got replaced with him being an extremely annoying beggar around 6-7 years ago, the beggar image is getting replaced with the image of him being a profoundly delusional and borderline solipsistic mentally ill freak. He can't even be saved with not having any physical deformities anymore, he was never a good-looking guy but he went from an unremarkable schlubby-looking dude to a bulb-headed skinnyfat ghoul with a lopsided hairline that looks like a reverse Wu-Tang Clan symbol and facial hair that looks like a war zone. Just seeing the absolute state of him now triggers my uncanny valley response.

One of the things I enjoy following Phil is the depth of the lore. It's almost like a puzzle, learning about and trying to figure out his motivations. I also think that there's a hint of "you don't like in others what you don't like about yourself" for many of us, or "there but by the grace of God go I". Phil is the embodiment of many of the common sins we all commit to a lesser extent. Who hasn't been self absorbed? Who hasn't been lazy, or childish or petty? Who isn't insecure about their masculinity from time to time? Addiction, wasting money, lack of commitment, lying, bad friend, the list goes on and on. Common thoughts, common sins, but Phil takes them all to such extremes it's almost a cartoonish parody.
I've read that humans like stories on a base evolutionary level because we're looking for ways to gain knowledge that could make our lives better (or potentially save it), I think many people look at Phil's story because we are all desperate not to end up like him.

Was listening to Meerkat's latest Swaycast this morning, where he reacted to Agent Proper's DSP top 10 for 2025, and got a good laugh out of being reminded of this clip. He actually said this! Phil your brain is swiss cheese!

This is so true and a lot of what people discuss about Phil is based on him being a/the cautionary tale. All of this money and fame and views shit is easy come and easy go.
The "successful" ones take the money and fame and build themselves some sort of stability in their life. Phil ended up as a miserable alcoholic and gambling addict who doesn't want to take one step differently and improve his shit. He lies about it all and just constantly changes his extremely unstable identity to match whatever is happening and whatever he wants to be a part of or appeal to - he's like a chameleon.
I think a lot of people are detail oriented with his lies but it makes a lot more sense that his lies aren't really surrounding the real facts that have happened or haven't happened, he just adjusts stuff to be what he thinks the world needs and will get him the most attention/fame/money at any given time.
If he dislikes someone he will change like a chameleon to spite them and say bad things about them because he is turbo insecure - that insecurity and confidence story is basically the core part of "being a man" and its why so many males identify with Phil's stupidity and insecurity. He really is a dramatically broken person and is psychologically damaged by his own doing and his narcissism and other shit.
Everyone gets put in that position where they need to ask a friend for a loan, ask their boss for a raise, quit their job or do something and stand up and be a man - everyone's life is like a little theater in that way. Phil has so many chances to be a man but instead he takes every opportunity to just be a spiteful little cunt.
Also, Phil is gay.

I think why, even here on kf, there's such a wide ranging spectrum in how people view dsp is because it's not until you actually start to dig that you realize he's an incredibly insidious individual. But to dig you have to get past that surface level "he's just some old fuddy duddy who was popular on youtube once for being a blowhard who's shit at video games". Who could care so much as to document his every move or pay any sort of attention to him? And dsp knows this, that's why he presents himself as some harmless bum with his widdle tiny community who gets bullied, why would people pick on him?
It's not until somebody gets past that barrier do they then realize how big of a lolcow and terrible person he is who doesn't get nearly as much hate as he deserves. The perfect example of this is the Casino. They were the normies who wondered why the fuck people cared so much about this old retard, to becoming his biggest, most ardent a-loggers.
