Let me know when that expansion does anything about the glaring employment crisis. This expansionist LARP might benefit Vivek's cousins presently ruining every private sector but anyone else?
Some that I just thought of:
If the mineral and oil deposits are exploited, that will create thousands of jobs. There would be jobs in Greenland itself, both directly doing the resource extraction, and in support of those industries. Processing those resources has the same effect. If processing of those resources happens elsewhere in the US, then that's additional jobs wherever those resources are processed, plus logistics jobs getting materials and goods to & from Greenland.
Having the maritime region around Greenland be secured by our navy would also make for easier, safer shipping of goods to both Europe and Asia. That will have a knock-on effect elsewhere in the economy.
What I find funny about all this is that Denmark could totally spin the sale as a positive thing to their own people:
"We are no longer being an evil colonialist empire, the US can have that problem now. Maybe in a few hundred years they'll learn the self-destructive consequences of tying to be an empire. In the mean time, we get to watch them learn the hard way. lol."
"Trying to manage a foreign holding far from Denmark's shores has been very expensive. Selling it gives us cash to catch up on our national debts, and refocus our national priorities to ensure that the taxes that the Danish people pay go to the benefit of the Danish people."
"Working with the US, we have kept a portion of dibs on the energy resources in Greenland, ensuring that no Dane will ever have to chose between funding Russia's imperialist aggression into Europe, or keeping the heat on during winter."
But they're so pridefully focused on how Orange Man Bad, and opposing him on all things just because, they can't even stop to think how they could play this to their own benefit and act like they pulled one over on the stupid Cheeto Man.
