It really is. His last twenty years have been "Never Give Up" and finally, at the end, he has. Not as shocking as the Lesnar-Taker WM30 match, but damn close. Complete shock, myself included.

The damage control on this is insane. Maybe they should have just had him give a good speech and explain "I couldn't escape Gunther. My time is done and I accepted that." instead of yet ANOTHER video package you could have avoided all this.

All in all this whole thing was executed terribly.

It's absolutely crazy they're trying to say this was all Cenas call in the post show and he wouldn't have had it any other way when he's said in interviews they only let him do like a third of the appearances he wanted.

I liked Sting, with how they got his sons(who I'm convinced could be dimes but no promotion could actually make good use of them) to play his past incarnations of his characters. It felt like a genuine event and farewell, much like HBK v Taker instead of just "ok here are the dates where you'll hear John Cena's entrance so yeah please pop"
 
Faggots on reddit are crying about "tradition", but the more I think about it the more I'm like there is NOTHING traditional about this retirement.

For real, when has there been a retirement that has been advertised for a whole year? Where tickets were sold at such a premium? Where it was basically it's own event because, let's be honest, they could have dropped the SNME and just called the whole show "Cenas Last Match" for how it went.

The more I think about it, the more I think Cena should have won. Cena was always about what the fans wanted, and this wasn't a retirement match during a show, this was a whole show devoted to a retirement match. A retirement show that fans paid thousands to attend.

I'm not even a Cena fan, hell I'm not even that big of a pro wrestling fan anymore, but what a crock of shit. What an absolute blunder.

And for what? To elevate Gunther? 38 year old Gunther who has the longest IC title reign, two WHC reigns, was King of the Ring and retired Goldberg?
 
Gentlemen (and perhaps a few ladies), we are now in the Post-Vince, Post-Hulk, and now Post-Cena Era. The new year really will mark a new era. I can't help but feel it adds to the energy of the overall cultural shift, with the quality (likely continuing to sputter downwards) being irrelevant to the shift. It really does feel like Things Are Happening.

I've been saying we want vince bacl ever since he left in 2022 in case triple H, a guy who was jealous of Cena & Edge was booking their final runs.

I'd go as far as to say we've been in that era since the start of the year. If I were more cynical I'd claim we've been in that era since HHH took over, because then it felt like the era of "Moments™".
A year or two ago I'd say the Moments™ were Run-ins and Interference on every single main event match, entrance pops, and the occasional cool moment.
