General Wrestling Discussion

The silver lining in HHH's "we don't create stories, we create moments" rhetoric is that all I need are 3-5 minute YouTube clips and I'm caught up completely.
Who needs a story that spans weeks and months when you can watch entire feuds in the time in takes to drop a deuce and wipe your ass?

Huh? what'd ya mean trips books years-long storylines?!?!?

I don't have a problem with the finish, it makes sense for Cena to make a guy on his way out. My issue is how Cena did it. The weird side-smirk, Young Bucks "wink-and-nod", ginger tapout is the personification of everything people in the 2010s hated about Super Cena's run and the majority of his career as "the guy".

John got to a point to where he was so popular and beloved he knew it would take murder for him to get released so he got content and got sloppy. Loudly calling spots in the ring and breaking the immersion, burying the majority of guys he went against on the mic ("fine speech"), dismissing legitimate criticisms as just smarks complaining. I know a lot of you guys are younger, but that was the general consensus of the Cena era.

We never hated Cena, we just wanted Cena to mix it up and do something different without begrudging it and be something other than "invincible marine-larp wigger" for 12 years. Cena's smiling tapout is just as bitter as Goldberg saying Gunther's chops didn't hurt.

Faggots on reddit are crying about "tradition", but the more I think about it the more I'm like there is NOTHING traditional about this retirement.

For real, when has there been a retirement that has been advertised for a whole year? Where tickets were sold at such a premium? Where it was basically it's own event

Not paying attention to Tanahashi's retirement?

I had no problem with Goldberg no selling chops. Goldberg's whole gimmick was being an indestructible monster. Goldberg was Brock Lesnar before Brock Lesnar. If Cena lost clean to Oba Femi that would have been a great match to end his career on, you know losing to an actual future face of the company.

Gunther is a boring one-note heel, all he does is walk out smugly. They're acting like he's going to be the new Andre The Giant when he's nothing more than a modern day Nikolai Volkoff.

Don't tell gay d from jew York 4foot6 that biggest triple k cocksucker
He’s defending this by framing it as people mad Cena lost and that Gunther is getting epic heat, rather than the finish was shit and the entire year was a waste that showcases what a shitty booker HHH is.

Cena got Gunther to the next level
Lmao. Cope.
Gunther isn’t getting more over than he is.
If he actually wanted to get anyone to the next level, he should’ve wrestled Oba.

I agree, but when he was interviewed after, Goldberg buried the chops and made Gunther look like crap because his ego got hurt. Cena more or less did the same thing no-selling Gunther's sleeper. This isn't so much a defense of Gunther than it is a criticism of Cena doing what Cena does - getting "cute" when he has to take an L,

Gentlemen (and perhaps a few ladies), we are now in the Post-Vince, Post-Hulk, and now Post-Cena Era. The new year really will mark a new era. I can't help but feel it adds to the energy of the overall cultural shift, with the quality (likely continuing to sputter downwards) being irrelevant to the shift. It really does feel like Things Are Happening.
the yeet era will be better

I do believe that if Vince came out during the Cena retirement ceremony after the match he'd have been cheered by the crowd. They were genuinely angry at Triple H for fucking this up. This was the cherry on the shit sundae of WWE in 2025. A year of wasted opportunities and baffling decisions with an overreliance on "moments" in lazy attempts to cover up shitty booking.

I wrote this before the show started, but having Cena win would have made been the best result. You end a bad retirement run on a positive note, send everyone home happy and recover at least a little bit of goodwill. Gunther wouldn't have been hurt by the loss in any way. I don't mind Cena losing, the finish was just flat as fuck. That weird ass smirk Cena did before calmly tapping out didn't sell the moment. Either be flailing all around trying to get out and furiously tap because you can't take it anymore OR don't give up and pass out. The latter would have been more fitting for Cena because even though he lost, Gunther can't say he made Cena give up like he said he was going to.

I liked the finish and saw it as Cena basically letting go of the whole "never give up" mentality because he is literally giving up his wrestling career.

Shame it was Gunther though. He's upper midcard at best despite WWE trying to put him over as a big deal.

Triple H did beat Batista on his retirement match. Triple H will always be the guy who GETS BEAT by the GUY. Such a hater, got rid of Edge & Lashley and fucked up Cena's Retirement.

IIRC it was you posted something like "Triple H sucks as a booker and fucks up things" and everybody gave you dumb stickers and called you a niggerfaggot, including me.

I haven't watched any WWE since this year's Mania. I apologize for calling you a dumb niggerfaggot.

AUSTRIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA 🇦🇹

on a more serious note: i was shocked about the finish after gooooooonther eating 3 AA's, i hope they build the shows around him for a while like they did with bork lazer.

sort of true, if the nexus didnt get buried, or any other talent against cena, then we might have some main eventers by now, but most of the guys with talent fucked off back to the indys or AEW because the shows was always made around cena, orton, bork lazer, etc pp.
