UK Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins dies in prison attack

Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins has died after being attacked in jail, prison sources have confirmed.

The disgraced rock star from Pontypridd was serving a 29-year sentence at HMP Wakefield for child sex offences.

West Yorkshire Police said they were called to the prison on Saturday morning to an assault on a prisoner, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Watkins was jailed in December 2013 for a string of child sex offences, including the attempted rape of a baby.

Wakefield is a fucking mess of a prison, it holds some of the worst of the worst and has all kinds of people just walking around mingling with each other... the VP wings have grasses, people who owe money, ex coppers etc on them.. could have been anyone who got to him to be honest. But it wouldn't be surprising if it was some rapist or something who wanted to make a name for himself or got offered money, then again when Watkins got stabbed and attacked a couple years ago it over allegedly over an upaid drug debt.

The UK prisons are fucked man.. like regardless of who the person is, you genuinely aren't safe in a lot of the Cat A prisons.. remember what happened to Richard Huckle a few years back?


"After a trial lasting four days, Paul Fitzgerald, himself serving an indeterminate sentence for serious sexual assault, was found guilty of Huckle's murder on 23 November 2020 by a jury after only one hour of deliberation

During the trial, further details of Huckle's murder were revealed with it being made public that Huckle endured a lengthy torture with his hands and feet bound before being gagged, strangled using electrical cable, raped, having his jaw broken ,being sodomized with a kitchen utensil, and then having a pen with a blade attached stabbed into his brain via the nose.

The attack was described by the prosecution as "a prolonged attack also designed to humiliate and degrade [Huckle]". Fitzgerald, who was discovered by prison staff straddling Huckle's body and surrounded by a pool of blood, later admitted that he had wanted to cook and eat parts of Huckle's body following the attack."

His ex who went to the Police did so in late 2008. Nothing happened until early 2009 and she was written off as being bitter because they'd broken up.

There was some anonymous gossip site up that had women posting in it up until his arrest basically straight up saying what he was and was up to. They were calling him out for it and the posts dated back years before he was arrested and his crimes became public. That site was making the rounds around the time of his arrest in 2012/2013. I don't know if it's still up or not, but yeah...

For anyone curious, look up Sam Samworth on Youtube. He's an ex prison screw in the UK with decades of experience working in maximum security prisons with high profile prisoners etc... he's a down to earth Norf FC type guy with interesting stories about how the prisons work and how shitty the prisons got once the old guard screws retired and were replaced with women and college students.... he's pretty based too.

Oh, this fucker’s finally kicked it. I used to listen to Lostprophets in high school, actually saw them perform once in I wanna say 2007? Just after the album with Rooftops on it came out. My friend, Mr Tama and I hung back after the show to meet the band and I vividly remember Ian giving more attention to the single female friend we had with us, and us joking about how weird it was considering we were teenagers at the time. I bet if you went around the alternative music scene at that time and asked anyone involved you would get stories about him being weird. Looking at the UK rock/metal scene it's common to spot a lot of crossover in projects, the only one I can remember is the Blackout and LostProphets having a song together on each other's albums, but that's probably more from both being Welsh, oddly though I can't seem to find much crossover with other Welsh bands like KiGH, FfaF or Skindred, aside from maybe touring. I know a few people of similar age to Watkins (granted in the heavier music scene and more in England that Wales) but I have no doubt they probably heard shit too back in the day

I haven't heard of the guy before but going by what he did and how he behaved after he would have done it again after coming out of prison. So him getting killed before his 29 year term was up is an objectively good outcome and I hope the perpetrator gets a very lenient sentence.

When I was in high school, while spending time with some family during the holidays, I got a Spider-Man 2 cd that had Lucky You on it (it wasn't the official soundtrack, it was a cd with songs that were "from and inspired by " the movie). For years that was my favorite song. Even now that song still has some sentimental value to me, but it's hard to listen to it knowing what sick shit Ian has done.

I can kinda relate because Last Train Home was one of my favorite songs at one point. Then after the news of all the shit he did came out I honestly couldn't enjoy listening to it anymore.

He finally got what he deserved. Good riddance.

The KiGH guys fucking hated Watkins. Saw them a few times live and met them a couple times because they were one of my favourite bands as a teen, and Mr Tama once asked them if they ever really interacted with other bands in the Welsh scene. Apparently the other Lostprophets guys were “decent lads” but Watkins was, and I quote, “a total cunt” and they didn’t want to tour with him if they could help it. Told them about his interaction with our friend and they all but confirmed that he was just like that, and to never leave our friend alone with him if we ever saw them again.

The Lost Prophets' completely ripped off that early 2000s punky/emo style that came out of the US (itself a steaming pile of shit). Watkins' American accent and helium gas delivery positively offended me. 99% of Britbong pop is sang with an American twang, from The Beatles to Oasis, but Ian Watkins' vocals were truly revolting.

At least when Busted did it, no one over 8 years old took it seriously. It baffles me that people used to liked this creepy pretender.

The former Lostprophets frontman, who was serving a 29-year jail sentence, was fatally injured in an incident at the prison just after 09:30 BST on Saturday.
