Reorganization of September 29th, 2025

I understand the filtering option exists but my minor criticism with the board merges is that it’s hard to actively keep track on what threads get updated based on the specific filter. The fact you have to re-apply filters each and every time seem very counterintuitive. But that’s very minor and I can tap the filter every time.

My suggestion is to also have like an option for a “frequent prefix” thing so people can quickly pick out frequently used prefixes.

The distinctions between a lot of the categories didn't make a whole lot of sense, and often finding where someone's thread was located was just part of the learning curve of the site that I think it could do without. The only change I don't like is getting rid of community watch. Sometimes I just want to see what bluesky, ResetEra, or the Rowling haters have been up to. It's funny seeing whatever has had their panties in a twist. Just them being threads not centered around a single person make them distinct enough to keep separate from other lolcow threads; it feels like a distinction worth making.
Agreed. Community Watch is its own thing, and for my first year or so on the site it was where I spent most of my time, as it was the most like the old SA Weekend Web/Mock threads that got Shoah'd by the catlady admins for being too mean. I think the audience and style of posting is different and it's a different mindset watching a site or a topic community.

I'm not sure that merging so much into one mega-board is a good idea. It's going to be really hard to discover new threads. Ones with low traffic (including some of my personal favourites) will just get buried and only get posts from people who watch them. I don't like using the watch feature because it makes the board hard to navigate with too much crap on the front page - exactly what these board merges are supposed to deal with. Things are going to be hard to find even if I know what I'm looking for, I'm never going to stumble across anything new if the same 20 high-traffic threads are always on the first page. Can we put things like Internet Tough Guys, Animal Control etc as sub-boards like the Ethan Ralph/CWC/DSP ones? It keeps the front page relatively clean while making threads easy to find.

Also letting the furfags out of their containment zone will probably have adverse consequences for the entire human race.

International Clique

I see internationalizing the site as a way to grow horizontally and I want to encourage it. I'll be picking some moderators that speak other languages to help facilitate this. I'm not sure what else I can do to encourage growth this way though; it has never picked up steam despite my efforts in 7+ years.
the only thing i can see to improve the international boards is to permit general discussion threads unrelated to lolcows

i speak french and i truly miss speaking french on a messageboard but i don't give a fuck about french-speaking lolcows

Instead of the filters being selected from the dropdown or clicking the tag, what if at the top of the thread underneath the sub-boards, there was a tiled selection of all the major tags, basically all the old boards? The only reason I bring this up is that its become apparent just how few people knew you could filter by tag by clicking the tag and I doubt anyone uses the dropdown.

edit: basically something like this

If we're on the topic of discoverability, can we address the search function? There is seemingly no rhyme or reason to the order in which posts are presented. Trying to find something like the origin of the Juju the Cow nickname, for example, is just a nightmare because there is no organization by date, reaction count, highlighting, etc.

It's also fairly nonsensical how threads dedicated to individuals or topics are almost always at the very end of the results. If I searched Destiny, and filtered by post titles only, Steven Bonnell's thread is the eighth-from-the-last result in a 3-page result, despite his thread having over 40,000 replies.

I think it would really benefit from adding some sorting options, or even just updating the default sorting to post count. As much as Josh hates stickers, they can be used as a good indicator for post popularity as well, to help highlight noteworthy posts that people may be more likely to search.

I liked the Community Watch vs Lolcow split, but can live with how it is.

My main issue is that the "front page" of a subboard is important, and now the cows will have to fight with the communities, and some of those threads are really active.

They are sorted by date. If you search for Juju the Cow, you will find the newest posts first. If you search by title, you will see the newest threads first.

This is counter-intuitive because with posts you generally do what the newest first, with threads you do want the newest first, but with lolcows specifically you want the lolcow thread which is often 10 years old.

I have noticed that highlights seem purely reaction count based; that is to say that a post with 100+ negates will get highlighted the same as a post with 100+ mixed or positive reactions. I’m not suggesting a Reddit downvote and collapse style alternative or anything, but it does suck especially in fast moving happening threads to be browsing highlights to catch up on information and get several attention whores/shit flingers as results. I agree maybe filtering or weighing negative reactions from being highlights might be a good solution.
The problem is that you also get a lot of unrelated posts with positive scores. You can ask for a specific post to be highlighted. That seems so weed out most unimportant posts, but the problem will always persist unless the highlighting process is done manually.

I think a primary thing that could help grow the site is having genuine HAPPENINGS threads instead of A&H "da jooz" vs "da juice" threads that they always turn into. It's a real problem for site regulars.

Proposal: auto-highlighting in threads that have been marked as LIVE HAPPENING (or some shit) be turned off, or ignore "negative" reactions or weigh and ignore things with the :politisperg:head.

Because it's a fucking nightmare to be in a live shooting thread and trying to find updates that aren't the A&H known entities fucking off as usual. The Kirk thread after you banned a bunch of threadshitters was much nicer. Maybe you need dedicated highlight mods or something, because going through an active ICE shooter thread and the highlights are NOT the post with his dox, or the post with his roof painting, or even the post with his sister's butthole; this is not the farms.

THEN: lock that shit behind closed (account) doors. Fucking unlogged in niggers can read A&H joozposting, but if they want up-to-the minute live reporting (which KF is fucking pretty damn decent at, as an aggregator at least, if not a primary source), then they can get a fucking account.

Or maybe highlights could be flagged as "political sperging" kind of like old slashdot meta-moderation, and a setting in profile could turn off "political sperging" highlights.
Constant, heavy-handed moderation could "fix" A&H(i.e. thread banning, manual highlighting), but from a regular user perspective the place seems to churn through mods, many of whom were good posters before being run off. Weighing specific stickers won't work, you'd end up having to moderate the use of stickers to prevent abuse and targeted spam on posts containing unpopular (but informative/useful) information, I get the impression Null would rather delete the subforum and/or sticker feature entirely before doing that.

Ideas for site growth/retention of visitors. Do another sticker run, encourage people to (legally) slap KF stickers in public places. Expand features and community feature suggestions, something to draw peoples eyes to a specific spot on the front page rather than it looking like a bunch of lists of stuff they don't understand. More tooltip-style short explanations of forum features like sorting by tag and watching threads

Null can you tell us the top ten/top 100 threads for unregistered non-logged in niggers?

Looking at that data might provide some ways to grow membership.

For example, can you put individual threads behind a login or does it have to be a whole board? I bet there are unlogged in niggers looking at the funny pics threads.

I'm fine with A&H as it is, I'm just annoyed that all of the latest shooting happenings threads end up in A&H and get shit up in A&H, when they should be moved to (or a new thread created in) Happenings with strict "fuck off with your A&H shit" rules. For the good of the actual happenings news.

Nobody is going to read thousands of Kirk posts in a year, but they will hit the highlights, and they're almost all shit.

you have always been able to filter by thread prefixes by clicking them. this feature has existed for 10+ years.
I didn't know this feature and I bet I'm not the only one. It's the least visible item on the page and needs the user to click filters>prefix>tag ; or click on a tag in a thread title, but there's no way to guess this would act as a filter. Increasing visibility and access to the tags would make them act as pseudo sub-boards I think. Suggestion below.

Now for my retarded take : make it impossible for OP posters to change their pfp, ever. Because that's how I find threads I'm looking for when scrolling.

I unironically hate this new change but if people like it, then I like it *sigh*
