I didn't know this feature and I bet I'm not the only one. It's the least visible item on the page and needs the user to click filters>prefix>tag ; or click on a tag in a thread title, but there's no way to guess this would act as a filter. Increasing visibility and access to the tags would make them act as pseudo sub-boards I think. Suggestion below.

The size of the Kiwi Farms has not increased at all since the end of Drop Kiwi Farms.

XenForo is ancestral and scary and people under the age of 30 hate it.
I am sure people will mindlessly recoil at the thought of "make it more like TikTok", but the UX of this website is not good for acquiring or retaining new users.
The default page displays at least 30 links to threads with equal visual prominence, with the only difference is a short and low detailed thread title.
A new person who joins the website will see this, click randomly, be confused, and leave.

Pick some random interesting threads and display them prominently on the default page along with a photo and flashy description.

The main problem with other language lolcow communities is that they usually have their own way of doing stuff. German cows are usually discussed in Telegram channels. The culture of watching / interacting with cows also varies drastically from country to country. The German one, for example just doesn't fit in with the spirit of KF. They behave way more like snark subreddits.

I'd like KF to grow too. Many people know of it, but never think of actually visiting. I'm not even sure that it has to do with drop KF anymore.

Sometimes you hear something about a community you know nothing about and I'd rather read it here and wikipedia as a suplement.

Not shitting on the changes, won't be hard to use the search function and get accustomed to the new layout.

The reaction is not "mindless" and to claim it as such is incredibly fucking malicious.
Other sites (like youtube) that have done that have become actively worse as a result, and redesigns advertised as "mobile friendly" have been a death knell for proper site functionality for about a decade now.

I think it might just be word choices that could make the site seem less insular. 'Community Happenings' is a good example, because to a stranger, the phrase implies news relevant only to existing users, rather than general Internet gossip within our rough sphere of interest. It could be something as simple as 'Happenings' and have the actual 'Happenings' board turned to 'Events' (though I know it's a joke).

That is to say, if a person comes to this site through the main page, they should know immediately what they might want to start looking for. This could be communicated with something like a tag saying 'Internet Gossip Site', puerile as that is, which would also have the benefit of warding off the people that still come in thinking we're a harassment factory.

The main Lolcow page is unfathomably massive and a complete disorganized mess that balloons to nearly half a GB in memory usage upon loading. I fully understand wanting to make the front page less cluttered and merge together similar-enough boards, but this is like knocking over a bookshelf and calling the pile on the floor better.
