This is because these followers are all about "owning the libs." When Gamergate was fresh in everyone's minds and these people went out to vote, There are a group of people with such aversion to the democratic party that they'd rather destroy the constitution than ever elect a liberal or a democrat into office. Part of it was based off of Democratic failures within the rust belt that genuinely affected most people. (Still remember the Flint Michigan fiasco that Obama fucking bungled) However, the majority is based off of a play upon the insecurity of both the right wing and the conservatives. You gotta realize that after Mitt Romney got his ass handed to him in the general election against Obama, Conservatives genuinely thought that Conservatism is dead and the Republican party will be no more. Trump used that opportunity to hijack the conservative party due to a power vacuum and changed the party in his own image. He played upon the conservacuck and Evangelical cultist insecurity and based the entire narrative on Democrats and liberals being the "enemy of the people" and is now the face of the Republican party. There's literally nobody else that would replace him. It's because of this insecurity that you find an unshakable faith of Trump, even though Trump is clearly destroying the US as we speak. It's because if they agree that Trump is terrible, then they would have to realize that their entire worldview is based upon insecurity and spite, rendering the whole conservative movement to be null and void.

Tl;Dr, it's a sunk cost fallacy.

Obama and others made fun of him, so his whole desire is to do everything that Obama's done and maybe a little more, to go "look, I'm better than you."
