Watching it for the 4th time already. Such a fun movie to go through. Man Bites Dog sits up there with El Infierno as some of the best NC-17 rated films. I also really recommend El Infierno as it's also a black comedy related to crime.

The Meyerowitz Story is a damn good drama film about a dysfunctional family.
Adam Sandler is really good and shows that when he wants, he can act.
Dustin Hoffman is a real PoS in it.
If you like movies about dysfuncationals familes, this may be for you.

I'm calling it: new Aquaman is so bad it's good.

The writing and dialogue so stupid, cliche and over the top, the acting is so one-dimensional, and it oscillates so quickly between trying to be Thor, Black Panther and Guardians of the Galaxy, that it all comes together as practically a Hot Shots style parody of the MCU, so much so that I could be convinced that it's intentional.

If you're one of the people who rightfully criticizes Marvel for being cliche and formulaic, you have to see this. It's incredible.

Icelandic miniseries Black Sands.

It’s a noir crime drama, from 2018 but I only just discovered it and binge-watched.
I will recommend it highly for the unsettling acting and completely deranged direction.
And the plot, which I do not want to give away but was pleased to guess right, quite early on.

I've come to really dislike Slow Horses, which started off as "Gary Oldman is fun to watch and it's only 6 episodes of semi-interesting spy fiction and a main lead I enjoy watching" to "This plot is retarded but Gary Oldman is still fun to watch" to this year's season which has more or less cemented the idea of the horses being Hoboavengers and might as well be the only MI5 members to exist in London, complete with enough plot armor and retard plots to fill my head with suicidal thoughts for even picking this up. I think this screencap sums it up for me.


Anyways, what I want is decent spy fiction that's a bit more on the light hearted and action-y Burn Notice side than it is the gritty, more grounded and drama focused The Americans side.

I have just watched Polar (2019), a movie by director Jonas Åkerlund, of the Horseman (2009) infamy, however, this time, he really came through and delivered a very entertaining picture. It's a Tarantino/G. Ritchie medley, with dash of noir and slice of life movie, I went blind into this, and was very satisfied with the showing and very surprised that the movie was panned by the general audience and the critics.

It stars Mads Mikkelsen as aging hitman, employed by a pro-hitman "association" Damocles, who is 2 weeks away from his very lucrative retirement, which is very inconvinient for his employer, who, to save money, decides to get rid of him before that time. While the plot appears to be pretty straight-forward, there are twists here and there, to spice-up things, with the big reavel about the supporting character, that, unfortunately, kinda falls flat.

I would still recommend it, it's on Netfucks, if you like the noir/action movies, in the style of the aformenetioned directors, it reminds me a bit of Knuckleduster Club, in a way how it tries to imitate Ritchie/Tarantino, it's also not too long, clocks around 2h.

I just finished watching the new Exorcist and i don't even know why. Even for modern horror it was exceptionally bad. I am not exaggerating when i say the film boils down to "Offer your white children to the devil so the black ones can live". Absolute travesty. Shit acting, shit direction, shit effects.

Tokyo Godfathers is actually goated. Don't be fooled by the troon or literally every other thing Satoshi Kon has ever done, it's just an excellent Christmas movie, touching and funny -- actually funny, not japanese funny -- and captures the spirit of Christmas better than most. Even the dub is decent. Glad I gave it a chance.

It's fucking excellent, from animation to story to (original) voicework. I have a hard time imagining someone watching and not appreaciating this film. My favourite Kon work.

25th Hour (2002). Edward Norton's in New York City and the "fuck you" monologue is legendary

Absolute agreement. Also was the first movie with the courage to directly include 9/11. And of course best Spike monologue of main character yelling at himself in a mirror. Very, very underrated movie.

His best film next to Do The Right Thing. Better even, because it doesn't decide to fuck the whole story of the film up in its last five minutes. Incredible cast and by far his best direction ever. Wish he hadn't have a chip the size of Manhattan on his shoulder that taints most of his work.

I assure you I am not a weeb but recently myself and the wife watched these Korean/Japanese shows and they were good.

Hell is Other People, The King of Pigs, Happiness.

For a gook wannabe anime The King of Pigs was surprisingly good, even if the animation is all over the place. Very good ending which elevates the whole movie.

I'm going to give this a watch, i am all for european crime shows from countries with weird languages, still have to watch that polish one from a couple of years ago.

Empire of the Sun

As much as I recommend this movie, I recommend the book much more. It's a lot less sugar-coated and Hollywoodized, although the movie does a good job of capturing a simplified version of the story.

I meant to post this on Christmas Day, but since the new year is almost here, it could also be a good recommendation for this time:



Scrooged (1988) and Uncle Buck (1989) are the perfect holiday movies that need to be watched once in a year, just so one can appreciate the fact that they both came out a year apiece from one another. The former of course is an obvious due to Bill Murray doing his best Bill Murray role in any situation, but John Candy is one of my favorite comedic actors from that time period that it almost makes one question if he was really acting or just acting like his normal self outside of the screen. If anything, I look at Candy the same way I look at Chris Farley — two guys that can play the most family friendly roles and do so with the most charm and lovable personalities that really shined through the silver screen.

Either way, these two movies are appropriate for the last day of the year, but it’s also proof that even after all these years, it makes me seriously wish we can go back to making Hollywood movies fun again. We just don’t have any real ”fun” movies anymore since all of the fun ones are either way too serious or there’s no real comedy in it anymore.

Finished Black Sands earlier today. Not a must-watch show for me but a nice, little whodunit with a good pay off. Competent acting and at times nice cinematography, the Island setting is very pretty.

I have been watching Monarch Legacy of Monsters, and it's ...decent.

It's set in two time periods - The 50s and during the modern Godzilla movies.

There have been bits of woke stuff that have made me roll my eyes, especially with the modern cast.

But some of the story, particuarly the stuff set in the past has been good, with this last episode being especially good.

It's by no means perfect, and I have skimmed through a couple of episodes, but it ties in nicely with the modern Godzilla movies and reframes some of the stuff in them.

if you like Godzilla and monster movies in general, it's worth a watch. Just be prepared to skim through some of it.

Been watching classic Magnum PI (Tom Selleck is fucking great) and Columbo recently. A lot of these older TV shows really are a refuge from the era of WOKE. Hollywood is practically dead to me at this point, and I can't really recommend much of anything released in the last year or so, except maybe Gran Turismo. And even that I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. There was really no woke shit in that (which is surprising, given that it's a Sony property), and it was honestly refreshing to see.

I feel hoodwinked by Pantheon and Westworld having pretty much the exact same finale, especially the nature of that finale. Otherwise they are both very good shows.
