You're not wrong. Unfortunately, the subculture of cowtipping Perry has been around for going on for over 30 years now. Most of the audience moved on after the Big 3 podcast fizzled out, but Don always invited people to get involved with trolling Perry, so that's always been a part of the "fandom" - and it got pretty fucked up at times. Perry's really stupid and gullible, so it's easy to trick him into doing things one day that he'll be completely outraged about or in denial of the next. For example, because Perry has always been a massive coombrain, the proespect of getting laid is an easy way to fuck with him. Years ago Don set him up with some schizophrenic tranny and told him it was a woman, and even though it was obviously a tranny, Perry believed Don that it was a woman because "she" showered him with attention and affection, and Perry ended up tossing one up "her" exit door. That's the level of delusion you're dealing with when it comes to Perry. To this day he refuses to admit that it was a tranny - he just says "she was disgusting" and "a bony pig" and won't elaborate on what that means.

People who still watch PCL bring up 1992 endlessly because Perry doesn't have it in him not to react explosively whenever it's brought up (and if his story is essentially true, then yeah, no shit he goes nuclear, who wouldn't?) But it's not the reason anybody cared about Perry before now. If you want to see what peak Perry project was like, watch Windy City Heat on youtube and then look up the The Big 3 podcast. Yeah, there's a lot of the 92 stuff in there too, but at least the cruelty was a little funnier back then when Perry could actually punch back at the shitheads making fun of him. For better or worse, Perry is a little too cowardly to do much more than huff and puff and threaten violence when he feels threatened, though he did actually take a piece out of some troll who was showing up to his door to dance about two years ago. I wish I could find it but it looks like it's been scrubbed from YouTube.
HIs mother was a JW retard who dragged him into the cult when he was a child, which probably helped with the lifelong estrangement from everybody else who didn't want to get involved with those miserable fucks. If Tom's word is worth anything, the rest of the family are all a bunch of fuckups and scumbags in their own ways - Perry just got dealt the unlucky hand of having that genetic legacy and brain damage. Perry's father was a loser starting a family here, and there, and then somewhere else, leaving broken homes in his wake. But he was successful with women, so Perry idolized him even though he abandoned him and his mother like all the rest. So he had basically nothing to work with in terms of positive parental influence. There doesn't seem to be any serious dispute over the fact that his older brother cheated Perry and his other brother Kenny out of their share of the inheritance when their mother died. And Perry's daughter will never want anything to do with him because he's insane and unstable and doesn't have any concept of healthy boundaries. To Tom's credit, he did facilitate their reunion and her willingness to talk to him again, something she was unwilling to do for years. Can't blame her - she gets to live the rest of her life with the memory of her father freaking out and choking her mother one day when dinner was slightly messed up - two hands around the throat, Simpsons style. I believe him when he says its because his mental illness wasn't properly diagnosed and he was on the wrong meds, but the temper's always been there, and you never forget when someone you thought you knew just snaps like that. So she's fucked up too - I think she's been through a divorce already, and has her own child to pass on the family legacy. All of that adds up to the fact that Perry is basically on his own once Tom's out of his life and can't count on anybody in his immediate family to help him. There' s apparently one cousin who has been helping Perry with his bookkeeping and managing his debts, but that relationship is apparently pretty fraught. It's a pretty bleak situation.
In context it’s more like a ”defensive hold”, but that’s not much of a defense. Perry is a known sperg of the highest order and the whole point of the the Perry Project in all its forms has been to drive him as nuts as possible to draw a reaction. Sometimes Perry expresses the capacity to violence (and Phoney Hawk is a major trigger, his role on PCL is to antagonize Perry).
