Celebrated Musicians You Hate

There is a desperation record labels have to try to make black singers into royalty. Her and Gay-Z stuck around so they win by default. Thing is she’ll do anything for the right amount of money. She got paid a million dollars to sing for a party for one of Gaddafi’s kids, Beyoncé became a feminist when Sheryl Sandberg gave her $5 million, and undoubtedly got millions more for Nigger Lives Matter. It’s all pure cynicism: pretending to be proud to be black when she drowns herself in bleaching cream as much as possible.
I remember seeing a billboard with Beyoncé on it and she was so skin bleached I didn’t even recognize her.

I don't mind Nirvana, but the worship gets old for me too. Kurt was an old school SJW. Didn't know what his politics even were half of the time without having Krist explain it for him and hung out with those stuck up cunts in Bikini Kill. It's bizarre to me that even today people praise him for offing himself because he sold out. People twice my age have always given me shit for liking Hole specifically for that, which has always been obnoxious.

Beyonce has some catchy songs I admit, but she's an egomaniac and an airhead. I don't mind that every one of her songs boils down to sad girl or boss bitch, but when she gets political it's the worst. I'd put Taylor Swift in that same category. I still can't believe she based an entire era of her career on the Kardashians bullying her on instagram. The breakup shit gets old too. I can barely tolerate it when Gwen Stefani does it as is.

Lady Gaga gets on my nerves, but I don't think she's a bad person. It just seems like she's a mega fan of everything and it comes off phony to me. Like you could pull any name out of your ass and she'd profess how much she loves them.

Everything she does feels calculated. You can tell that her "Gaga" persona is absolutely hollow and will do or say whatever she thinks is popular.

For actually hating, though? Ed Sheeron. Awful music, dopey ginger face, unfunny personality, he's the whole package.

When I was working night shifts, our break room TV was locked on one channel with the volume up, so it always had The Late Late Show with the painfully unfunny James Corden on and blaring at lunch.

That was bad enough, but at some point, he had Ed Sheeron on there for a week as co-host. It was so insufferable that I eventually unplugged the TV out of desperation.

Rush is a band that sounds great on paper. The problem is that in the actual recordings, they sound like shit. Bad production, bad songs, pretentious lyrics, and arguably the worst vocalist in all of rock history after Anthony Kiedis, whose stubborn refusal to learn proper breath support and how to sing in the upper register has completely destroyed his vocal folds and completely undermines any claim he has on being a good musician. Yeah, yeah, Neal Peart played like an octopus, good for him.

I think U2 made some great music, but personally they're shit. Go see how they let Island basically bully Negativland for their U2 ep. They wrote a whole book about. Because the group had connections in the underground, they got to interview The Edge incognito. They finally let him know they were members of the group and he basically just stammered about letting the lawyers do whatever. https://archive.org/details/NegativlandFairUseTheStoryOfTheLetterUTheNumeral2

Most of the people/groups who make popular music are shitheads personally. I can accept that. I guess it becomes an issue with me, separating the art from the artist, when they do shit like sexually abuse or pedo shit. R. Kelly being an example.

I love Led Zeppelin ( Idgaf they stole a bunch of their shit from blues artists, it's usually better than the original anyway) but I despise Jimmy Page as a human being. Doing the bare minimum amount of research on Lori Mattix will show you how he basically kept a secret 14-year-old girlwife away from the public. I know it was a common practice but it was apparently bad enough that Plant still feels guilt for all of the underage groupies that Jimmy was seeing (I believe he wrote it into the lyrics of "Sick Again"?). Jimmy practically was a pedophile who routinely molested an underage groupie, and he knew it was bad/how old she was because he wouldn't have been keeping it a secret otherwise, this isn't something you can chalk up to poor screening and drugs, or as a one-off thing.
Same. Can't Listen to Sick Again.

I'm a big Rush fan but my big issue with them are the later couple of albums where Neil found out about Richard Dawkins and got all into the nu-Atheist movement. Their lyrics got pretty cringy then. I remember they had a video where a lumberjack with a Darwin name-tag cut down a bunch of trees with religious names on them. If you want to be critical of religion, that's fine but Neil went full on 14 year old mad at their parents.

But an album like Hemispherses I can get behind. The idea of logic vs emotions and what happens when you're not able to balance the two is a pretty cool concept IMO.

I have a love-hate relationship with Jimmy Buffet. On the one hand I think he is a criminally underrated storyteller and songwriter (most of the time anyway. "Math Sux" I'm looking right at you), and I do appreciate that he sings the songs everyone loves at his live shows. Even if he hates those songs because he has played them a million times he still goes out and plays them because, as he says, A) those songs have put food on table for a long time, and B) it makes people happy to hear them and the world needs a little more happiness. That alone puts him a cut above the "artists" who "have something to say" types. He's an entertainer and knows it. He leaves his art for his songwriting or books, but at his live shows it's all about giving the audience what they want.

The hate part comes from how he's gone from singing about that tropical lifestyle and those fantasy lives of living in the islands to selling a brand and his later records show it. He went from having his fanbase of Parrotheads to just consumers of Margaritaville stuff. Good for him financially, but it's shifted from "I'm selling a fantasy life through my music" to "I'm selling a fantasy life through blenders and beer and retirement communities and God knows what else for the low, low price of..."

Not to mention how much of that Floribama ideal has seeped into modern country, which on its best days is little more than pop with twang, and is now pop with twang set on a beach and blasting at every college kegger.

The Beatles, any modern indie/alternative band. The entire modern country, pop and rap genres. Like, I don't need to listen to fucking classical music all the time but how they get away with releasing the same fucking song over and over again is beyond me.

I love early Dream Theater stuff, but they really went to shit after Kevin Moore left. Not immediatey, but after Metropolis:Scenes from a Memory, they focused WAYYY to much on the technical aspects of their music and not enough on making it sound congruent.

Punk rock is absolute dogshit. No meaningful lyrics (or at least fun or interesting lyrics), no musical talent and it's full of retarded shitlibs. No thanks.

Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Taylor Swift and every single female pop singer for making shit music that led up to the creation of industry plants like Billie Ellish and Justin Bieber.

Absolutely fucking filtered. And it's not even like Rush is the typical incomprehesible prog rock band. They're more of a hard rock band that has some progressive elements and 99% of the time the lyrics are easy enough to understand if you pay attention to them. Plus, the only album with really bad production was Vapor Trails, which they fixed later on with the remix album. I can understand Geddy Lee's vocals not being to your taste. It is something that has to grow on you or you look past. Idk, I get not liking a band but you don't have have to make shit up about them to hate them.

My favorite period of Rush's music was their return to hard rock in the late 80s through the mid/late 90s. I feel like that's wheb Neil's songwriting skills peaked since a lot of the albums were about deeper themes than "I don't believe in God". Like Counterparts was about the nature of duality in various aspects of human existence and Roll the Bones was about how the nature of luck. I don't even mind songs like Totem since it's message wss pretty agreeable: people do use religion as a substitute for reason and that's kinda bad. You should have both a religious sense and a rational sense in life.

Exactly. I don't have to agree with everything Neil writes, like Witch Hunt seems a little SJW to me but maybe it's due to the current year, but towards the end it was just r/atheism in song form...which sucked because musically their last two albums were fantastic end caps to a 40 year career. They had their issues aside from lyrics, but you really can't ask anymore from some 60 year olds trying to end on a high note.

Saying Geddy Lee's singing is a matter of taste is like saying whether or not you like a violinist who is unable to stop scrapes and squeaks because he never learned proper bowing is a matter of taste, or whether or not you like a drummer who can't do a roll because he never learned how to do anything but grip the sticks in his fists is taste. Lee never learned how to hit the upper register in any way other than compressing & straining. I think it's hilarious that while Neil Peart was over there completely relearning drumming techniques so that he could play better and faster without injuring himself (i.e. the sort of thing real musicians do), Lee refused to learn how to use air velocity rather than muscle straining to achieve high frequencies. This absolute amateur bar band-tier shit, and puts him in the same class. Consequently, he has injured himself so badly that I think the only singer who is more damaged today is Brian Johnson. Dave Mustaine is a croaking mess, too, same reason.

I've hated the production on Rush albums for a very, very long time. Just hate the sound.

Rush is an enormous amount talent wasted in the service of bad songwriting, bad production, and amateur-tier singing.

Ed Sheeran and Maroon 5, hearing shape of you and girls like you over and over on radio made me hate them. Especially shape of you
Damn the thread is becoming active lol
Another celebrated musician I despise is probably Katy Perry.

Silvana Imam. She’s a rap artist from Sweden, and she has the worst political beliefs:
She’s another “born in the wrong generation” Nirvana Stan:
Her chimpout at the Grammis:

Eric Clapton is beyond overrated.
His early stuff with Cream and Derek and The Dominoes still holds up, but he well and truly overstayed his welcome. Carlos Santana also belongs in this same bucket; his early stuff was good, but when he teamed up with that faggot from Matchbox Twenty and decided that he'd be happy to cruise for the rest of his career with just two chords, that's when I noped out.

Oh yeah, Matchbox Twenty is fucking shit too.
She's just another consumer product with (((connections))), just like Lana Del Rey.
People have been saying this for decades. I can't think of any Pop star who's a good role model. A genuinely decent media figure or entertainer is the exception rather than the rule. Even the supposedly good ones usually have more than a few skeletons in their closets.
Does Weird Al Yankovic count as a pop star? He's arguably the most wholesome performer in the entire music business.
The Eagles were self-parody when they were relevant, but their greatest sin was how milquetoast Joe Walsh’s guitar playing became when he joined them. Hotel California only works because Walsh overdubbed four different guitar parts for it.
The Eagles are the single most overrated band in the history of music. Don Henley is a piece of shit too.

Conscious rappers in general tend to go on about how great blacks are and how other races suck and shouldn’t be in hip-hop because they’re evil culture vultures. Say what you want to about mumble rappers. They may suck, but they rarely look down on other races with the same amount of hostility. When you make me defend mumble rappers, you know you’ve fucked up.

Yeah most punchable face in music currently. I fucking hate their music too, they used to be kind of interesting when they were metalcore adjacent but now they just sound fucking awful. Its like they turn on 3 compressor pedals and try to jam as many slides, bends, whammy flutters, and hammer on's into a smooth jazz chord progression as they can.

also electrified nylon string sounds like fucking shit.

Purely on account of how they sound to me: I never liked anything I've heard from Led Zeppelin or Rush. Bob Dylan is tedious 99% of the time too. Pink Floyd has its moments, but a lot of their stuff blends together into a bland uniform paste.

For other reasons: astroturfed contemporary nigger and faggot-themed music as a whole because society expects you to clap and solemnly nod on account of its ideology regardless of what it sounds like. I don't care about the alleged plight of American pavement apes with mile long rap sheets or GRIDS-infested prolapsed ass bandits or fat smelly rug munchers with nose rings and purple hair or tranny eunuch freaks and these shameless cynical attempts at forcing me to through pop culture all had the opposite effect despite my initial position of neutrality way back when.
