Celebrated Musicians You Hate

I consider myself a very open minded person. Even when it's bands I hate, i can come up with quite a few reasons why people would love them. Weezer might be the most overrated band ever, but The Blue Album is iconic for a reason. Even fucking Nickelback, as terrible as they are, have fans for a reason: they're very serviceable and inoffensive hard rock.

So believe me when I say I can't for the life of me understand why people love Deftones.

It seems to me like the main reasons they get praise are due to things that other bands do, but considerably better. It's like they get praise for having training wheels. They combine nu-metal with elements of prog and other genres? Cool, it's not like Tool or Faith No More did that before them. Chino has a legitimately good voice? So does Serj Tankian, Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford, Andrea fucking Bocelli, the list goes on and on. They have unusual song structures? Cool, it's almost like there aren't other bands who do that same thing. Their lyrics are mindfuckish? Do I even need to continue?

Funny, I have this exact same thought about Muse. To be fair, I don't hate them, but the constant dick-sucking towards the band and their purported differentials make me stir away from them.

I can see why people don't like The Beatles, but the one member I really can't stand is John Lennon. Grade-A asshole, hypocrite, wifebeater, semi-reformed deadbeat dad. I'd hate anyone who would compose and release Imagine anyways, but the fact it was this piece of shit makes it all the more aggravating.

Strangely enough, there is no mention of Bono in this thread. God, what a sanctimonious ass. I'm kinda-sorta glad he's been out of the public eye for some time. Maybe he finally got the clue that nobody falls for his bullshit anymore, and that U2 hasn't been particularly good since the turn of the century?

Pop artists are mostly wack as well, but none more so for me than Beyoncé. Holy shit, I'm sick and tired of hearing how Beyoncé is this total icon for women, can't they all see it's just a cynical ploy to get people to give money to her and her record company?

Matter of fact, any musician that fancies themselves as this kind of "force for social change" has my undying hate forever. Just do your thing and let the people decide if you're worth their attention and money. More often than not, they're not.

I also have a huge list of Brazilian musicians I dislike for a variety of reasons, but that's not particularly interesting for people who don't care about Brazilian music.

This dude and every other single person in the genre. Every song sounds exactly the fucking same

Huge in latinamerica, i will never understand why, was optimistic at reading some of the youtube comments though, more than a few are in the same boat as me
 
Nirvana (broken record in this thread at this point). Liked it when I first heard them as a preteen, but as I got older and stumbled onto Alice In Chains' music, I found their stuff to be mediocre as fuck and probably the worst of the famous grunge bands.

Chris Cornell. May he rest in peace, but for a guy with a good singing voice, I feel like he went out of his way to surround it mediocre or shitty music. Outside of "Be Yourself" and "Black Hole Sun", I immediately zone out when another song of his is played.

Deftones. They got a couple songs I like, but fuck me they are overhyped. Saw them open for Slipknot (fuck off, they were the band that got me into metal when I saw the music video for Left Behind as a kid) during the All Hope Is Gone tour and they were so goddamn boring.

Type O Negative. The guys in the band seem like great guys and RIP Peter Steele, but I swear they are only popular because goth chicks like dancing/stripping to Black Number 1 to my viewing pleasure.

Mayhem. Yes, they were instrumental to the Norwegian black metal scene and I respect their legacy, but their music is shit. Strip them of their shock value and legitimately interesting history, all they do is make noise while being edge lords.

...huh. I just realized every band I listed has a dead member in it too. Weird.

Hey, I get it. The reason why I'm a bit biased towards her is because I'm around people who like her and other female musicians like her, so a few songs tend to get on my radar. Don't voluntarily listen to her often because there are better artists out there.

Thurston Moore and/or Sonic Youth in general.

I'll preface this by saying I love most of their music. Moore's partnership with Lee Ranaldo pretty much took the guitar to its logical conclusion and exhausted it as an instrument. Steve Shelley is one of my favorite drummers ever. Kim Gordon is a useless whore who is consistently flat.

The reason I hate Moore is because of how outspoken he is with his gay lefty politics. The only redeeming thing he's done was betray his useless whore wife with a younger woman, totally contradicting all of his gay feminist viewpoints. lol

I was going to mention Billie Eilish as well, but reconsidered when i realized she has big tits i really don't care about her at all. same with Adele, Lorde and like... Ed Sheeran*? I'm really too out of touch to hate on more current music.

*are any of these people still a thing?

I see that you too are a man of fine taste.
In their hayday it was pretty much the standard go to if you were a longhaired metal guy and had ladies present. It worked well as a mood setter. October Rust. I'd fistbump the fuck out of Peter and give that man a genuine thank you.
It's currently still popular in those circles because IMO it aged very well.
As far as black metal goes though 90% of it is just fucking trash...........but what isn't is great. You have to sift through a metric fuckton of bullshit before you find a gem or something that stands out.

Her music is just meh and doesn't bother me, but she as a person is kind of the postergirl for everything wrong with the zoomer generation.
Mentally ill, spoiled, tattooed, vegan, individual bad fashion sense, annoying, a femnazi and, despite being in her prime, not even attractive.

Even her punchline Everything which makes you feel good! perfectly represents the zoomers philosophy, the consequences of this lifestyle are showing everywhere.
She is a bad role model but i don't blame her for this. She's just as brainwashed as the rest and just a small fry compared to other circumstances that make this generation dysfunctional.

I always assumed there won't be a downgrade for kids from 10 years ago idolizing Justin Bieber but apparently there is.

People have been saying this for decades. I can't think of any Pop star who's a good role model. A genuinely decent media figure or entertainer is the exception rather than the rule. Even the supposedly good ones usually have more than a few skeletons in their closets. The ascendancy of entertainers' social value tends to be symptomatic of a civilization's decline.
