The Beatles, any modern indie/alternative band. The entire modern country, pop and rap genres. Like, I don't need to listen to fucking classical music all the time but how they get away with releasing the same fucking song over and over again is beyond me.
I love early Dream Theater stuff, but they really went to shit after Kevin Moore left. Not immediatey, but after Metropolis:Scenes from a Memory, they focused WAYYY to much on the technical aspects of their music and not enough on making it sound congruent.
Punk rock is absolute dogshit. No meaningful lyrics (or at least fun or interesting lyrics), no musical talent and it's full of retarded shitlibs. No thanks.
Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Taylor Swift and every single female pop singer for making shit music that led up to the creation of industry plants like Billie Ellish and Justin Bieber.
Rush is a band that sounds great on paper. The problem is that in the actual recordings, they sound like shit. Bad production, bad songs, pretentious lyrics, and arguably the worst vocalist in all of rock history after Anthony Kiedis, whose stubborn refusal to learn proper breath support and how to sing in the upper register has completely destroyed his vocal folds and completely undermines any claim he has on being a good musician. Yeah, yeah, Neal Peart played like an octopus, good for him.
Absolutely fucking filtered. And it's not even like Rush is the typical incomprehesible prog rock band. They're more of a hard rock band that has some progressive elements and 99% of the time the lyrics are easy enough to understand if you pay attention to them. Plus, the only album with really bad production was Vapor Trails, which they fixed later on with the remix album. I can understand Geddy Lee's vocals not being to your taste. It is something that has to grow on you or you look past. Idk, I get not liking a band but you don't have have to make shit up about them to hate them.
I'm a big Rush fan but my big issue with them are the later couple of albums where Neil found out about Richard Dawkins and got all into the nu-Atheist movement. Their lyrics got pretty cringy then. I remember they had a video where a lumberjack with a Darwin name-tag cut down a bunch of trees with religious names on them. If you want to be critical of religion, that's fine but Neil went full on 14 year old mad at their parents.
But an album like Hemispherses I can get behind. The idea of logic vs emotions and what happens when you're not able to balance the two is a pretty cool concept IMO.
My favorite period of Rush's music was their return to hard rock in the late 80s through the mid/late 90s. I feel like that's wheb Neil's songwriting skills peaked since a lot of the albums were about deeper themes than "I don't believe in God". Like Counterparts was about the nature of duality in various aspects of human existence and Roll the Bones was about how the nature of luck. I don't even mind songs like Totem since it's message wss pretty agreeable: people do use religion as a substitute for reason and that's kinda bad. You should have both a religious sense and a rational sense in life.
