Victor Mignogna v. Funimation Productions, LLC, et al. (2019) - Vic's lawsuit against Funimation, VAs, and others, for over a million dollars.

"I will never let go of this battle that I lost and I was 100% obviously in the wrong for. Let me post a nigger song to cope and pretend I'm a some sort of warrior activist, and not just coomer-brained weeb incel who realistically only supports Vic for one of three reasons: either you are too autistic to read all of the obvious signs that his man is a sexual degenerate of some variety right off the bat, or you support Vic because you think that he should be able to get away with what he did because you don't actually care and you just want to try to own the SJW and the Wahmans. And, that's obviously as far as any of the people in this subforum have actually thought anything through other than memorizing talking points and legal jargon they learned to spout from Nick Rekeita.
Thing is, they aren't wrong-when you look at all the dumb shit that has happened over the past few years (UN trying to give fictional characters the same rights as real people, Australian politicians trying to ban all anime until it is "independently reviewed" (even using a show that was on ABC3 as an excuse), games being censored in dumb ways (One piece world seeker's "if you play on PC or live in America, here's a whole island you can't go to but you can see/crash into", Superhot VR's "sensitive times" removal of scenes/the toggle for them and Senran Kagura 7EVEN's development hell status due to Sony's pushing of Western standards-note: I got into the series because I liked the gameplay-main story for each group with a side story for each character, like old-school anime warriors games AND the kicking of a fan translator out of the community because they used an accurate translation-tranny for newhalf) and the numerous times Western localizers have fucked with the translations to push a political agenda when there wasn't one/was a different one originally-the war IS far from over.

One more thing-Nick's claim about TFS paying Funimation to keep Toei off their backs? May have some truth to it-I saw someone (now deleted) comment on a YT video about it, only for Takahata101 to respond saying it isn't true-then said person replied calling BS etc, to which Taka never responded.

I'm simply here to ask. Weeb Wars is finally over guys, right?
lolno.
1. The KickVic fags will be emboldened more than ever to harass conventions and other venues that invite Vic as a guest.
2. As seen with Krissy Rose and her campaign against Quinton Flynn, there will be those who will be inspired by KickVic and will try to take down more "problematic" figures in the North American anime sphere.
3. As seen with Daman Mills, the cliques will defend one of their own (especially if they are in the alphabet mafia). As Sony continues absorb more entities into Crunchyroll, expect the wagon circling to be more intense.
4. Speaking of the monopoly Sony is creating with Crunchyroll, the other anime dubbing companies are playing ball with them as they gobble up retailers (like Right Stuf) and other streaming platforms. Not sure how the Anime Matsuri Studios venture will ultimately pan out, but there needs to be healthy competition in the market. If Crunchyroll becomes the ONLY choice available, expect stagnation and woke trends to continue. It is this arena where I believe the next stage of Weeb Wars to continue.

Wait, what's happening with Right Stuf?

Holy copesville cap'n, which dimension do you hail from friend? Vic has hand multitudes of accusations for years before any of the Funimation VAs came out with their shit. Funimations was 100% within their right to get rid of him, not only does this lend creedence to previous allegations but now it was happening to their own employees. They have a right to protect their employees and the funimation VAs have the right to post what they want on Social Media. Deal with it Vic cucks.
Funimation doesn't even exist anymore now that they got folded into Sony-Crunchyroll now lol. The fact that you're shilling for what is now a corporate monopoly is as sad as watching a Linux user shill for Big Tech at this point.

Also, why are you speaking in 2017? The late-2010's called, they want their cringeworthy Internet lingo back. Besides, since you think this is about "Owning Wahmans" or "Owning the libs", I'll say this on record that I'm no fan of Rightoids either as I also hate them as much as I do Leftoids. I only supported Vic because it was clear his former associates screwed him over and both his lawyer was an incompetent dumbass and the judge in charge of the case was too lazy to do his fucking job.

I mean the justice system isn't exactly perfect either. Many people in the U.S. still get wrongfully convicted of murder and given the death penalty and O.J. Simpson was given a not guilty verdict back in the 1990's but most of the public still agree that the juice fucking finished off his girlfriend. I'm still going to believe that Vic did nothing wrong and he is a victim of unfortunate circumstances and nothing that you'll say to me will change my mind anyway.

I just feel bad for Vic, at the end of the day, that's all.
I honestly think he'll be okay. Anyone who believed the bullshit either still does and won't be convinced or saw this shitshow and changed their mind. The fans that didn't believe it originally still don't. Believe me, if any actual proof of true wrongdoing came out I'd have no problem disavowing him, but it didn't. As a fan I'd be disappointed, but I wouldn't deny the truth. I just haven't seen any truth. And there is no such thing as "my truth" or "your truth" or "so and so's truth"- there's THE truth, and I haven't been convinced that these allegations were THE truth.

He has plenty of support and got a lot of goodwill and PR through this trainwreck, and seems to be stable. Will he have the same opportunities and reputation? Nah, but overall it could've been much much worse, and I think he knows that.

As I said before, I don't think the Weeb Wars are over since this has now expanded well beyond Vic at this point. A battle may have been lost but the war has only just begun. As far as I'm concerned, Japanese entertainment has now entered much of the culture wars and we'll win some battles and we'll lose some but I will remain a solider until the war is won.

1. I don't think they'll succeed in blacklisting him from every event. Anime Matsuri is guaranteed to host him again especially now that he created a new business venture with them recently.
2. Eventually it will get to the point where they're going to overplay their hand and have this backfire on them. #MeToo thought they could take down Johnny Depp only for it to backfire spectacularly on them when the tables turned later on.
3. Give it some time, the Alphabet Mafia (the unhinged retards in LGBT community) may protect Damen for now but they can't protect him from the Alphabet Boys (the Feds) forever later on especially if this turns into an Ezra Miller situation then.
4. Considering that some of the KicVick shills love to suck corporate cock, this just reenforces my belief that Leftoids are just disposable pawns for the powers that be. Leftoids like KickVic are not revolutionaries, they've always been pawns for the whole political and financial establishment anyway.

They'll also misrepresent the civil suit as a criminal case.

"See? Vig lost his case. He's a certified child rapist now."

I can see it coming.
They're been doing it.

1. Only the conventions that have complicit or spineless owners, though.
2. It already backfired on Krissy Rose, though. Quinton Flynn got a protective slapped on her and she is now in a legal battle with the State of Indiana for violating said order. She's apparently changing her plea and the hearing for it is tomorrow:

As far as I'm concerned, if he's not on the U.S. Sex Offender Registry then they haven't really proven anything either. The lawsuit never got that far so we never got a chance to see the accusations actually being proven in court by trial or not.

Stupid is as stupid does I suppose then.

All it does is say. "The judicial system does not care about what is right, we only care about things appearing right!"

"Well yes, this evidence does agree with you and is completely sound.... but you acidentally mispelled but as butt on this 20 page filing on page 10 paragraph 1, so you lose." Is the feeling of the night.
And that feeling is incorrect. We have rules of evidence and procedure for a reason. This also wasn't some little esoteric issue....this was a huge problem.

If Toye and the gang were in Vic's position would you still be making the same argument?

Didn't fuck with client money, no malpractice :^)

Almost zero I think.
lol

You can sure as fuck commit malpractice in the handling of a case. Missing deadlines is a great example of that.

What a shit ending, losing because of improper notarisation is the most weenie bullshit imaginable. Just a waste of time and money for everyone.
For want of a horseshoe nail, a kingdom was lost.

Reminder that HiDive exists. It has fewer options than the Crunchyroll monolith, but it's also only five bucks a month and has a decent selection of old stuff from the '80s and before, which I like. If any of you really don't want to see Sonimatiroll consume the world, here's how you can put your money where your mouth is.

(nb4 some edgelord says "just pirate lol" not realizing that's not what the point is here)

Incidentally, given the bad blood between Sonimatiroll and Mignogna, I figure there's a decent chance the shows AM works on get distributed through HiDive instead.

As far as I'm concerned, if he's not on the U.S. Sex Offender Registry then they haven't really proven anything either. The lawsuit never got that far so we never got a chance to see the accusations actually being proven in court by trial or not.
People get convicted of sex crimes all the time without getting on the registry (see one Ralph, Ethan Oliver), but yes, this lolsuit getting thrown out does not mean that any of the accusations against Mignogna were proven in court. But angry retards on the Internet generally have a hard time with that sort of nuance.

Agree'd even though Vic wasn't convicted of sexual misconduct, just like Michael Jackson, it was obvious to everyone that he did it.

Okay, this is exactly what I'm talking about, you are projecting all of your pet issues onto this case and make it a Good Guy vs Bad Guy scenario - and I guess that's what lets you believe this obvious diddler is an innocent saint being picked on.

Let me get this straight, a co-creator of a youtube abridged anime parody series didn't continue a back and forth in the comments about whether or not they paid Funimation so that they could convince Toei not to Yeet them due to copyright even though it clearly falls under Free Speech as a parody? All of this clearly proves that Vic is innocent and that some Funimation voice actors social media posts are obviously not Free Speech?

You use that word. I don't think you know what it means. Off the top of my head for anime streaming and dubbing in the US:
Netflix
Amazon
Tubi tv
Bang Zoom!
Viz Media
Hulu
HiDive

Don't get me wrong, Kais is a drooling retard, but ya don't need to join him by making equally stupid statements.

In the age of cancel culture and social media bandwagoning I argue that Anti-SLAPP needs to be abolished. How the fuck is one supposed to redress grievances when they can't even enter discovery? Lets pretend the lawsuit was frivolous - You're just extending the time the lawsuit takes by a matter of years consuming time and money. Lets say the Motion to reconsider goes through. Then what happens? We've spent 3 years on a case and we haven't even gotten to discovery so what? 3 more years? What Ron Toye said at least is definitely defamation. He said he knew personally (from a position of seeming authority) women who were sexually assaulted by vic. That's not an opinion of a public figure. Anti-SLAPP stopped discovery. Discovery means no looking into the corruption of anime industry blacklisting.

And of course, as was said before, retards are going to take this CIVIL defamation case not making it past Anti-SLAPP as a sign that a CRIMINAL case was lost. They're going to do it again to more innocent people who earn the ire of the Staceys in the industry. What a load of Chupp.

Look I'm not here to defend Ty, but people are acting like he was the only lawyer doing all this work for Vic. It was a team fuckup. Ty, as lead, gets to take that on the chin, and in particular, the notary fuckup and not preserving evidence and objections in court. But there were several lawyers, paralegals, etc. who all dropped the ball along the way. Ty, as owner/senior partner, is ultimately responsible, and at least he's owned up to it. But it's a bit of a jump to act like him going on Rackets streams contributed to losing the case.

Ty's cope from the beginning was his statement to Vic's mom, something about rebuilding Vic's reputation. After they lost the case (the first time), Ty said he felt they had rebuilt Vic's rep. On the whole? I still think Vic ended up ahead on the PR front. He's now doing dubbing again, directing, attending cons. Yeah, it's not the same caliber he was doing in 2018. Losing a civil case obviously doesn't help, and as Cocaine Branca is fond of saying, "Appeals are for losers."

Further on the PR side, outing the depositions was a mixed bag. It proved what kind of people Marchi, Rial, and Toye were, which was eye opening. But it also opened Vic up to some avenues of attack. (Ultimately, it's stupid the TCPA allows for this shit- IMHO if there's a free speech argument to hold up the case, it should be done immediately and no other evidence (like depo's) should be allowed. ) I still think Vic came out ahead for showing the public the depos.

But from another avenue, as others have commented on it, the Kamehacon re-invite probably turned out to be a double-edged sword. It proved Vic did have an avenue to going to cons, which probably didn't help the interference claim. But you don't want to have to threaten litigation to go to every major con.

Yeah, rag on Ty, it's fine. He fucked up. Chupp is a fuckup. But in this case, every lawyer was a fuckup, except for Marchi's.

I like lasagna man. It's shitty he went through all this, but it's clear he was a bit of a Pollyanna about his working and personal situations, up through his Funi dismissal (if not later). From the outside, it feels like he has grown in his personal/business dealings, and I hope that's the case and that AM Studios proves to be more than a passing fart. Star Trek Continues was inspired fan work, and it proves what Vic can do and what he can inspire people to do. I hope we get to see some more of that spark down the line, and that some fat cows and twinks didn't extinguish it.

As for people misinterpreting the outcome, shit there's a lot of that even going on here. It's a burden Vic will have to carry, assuming no further appeals prove successful. But on the balance, I think he still ended up ahead, even without a civil decision in his favor. If Vic can help lead a counterbalance to Sony/Crunchy, that will be a net good. And who knows if AM Studios would be a thing, were it not for Vic being a free agent. He'd probably be stuck in the Sony cogs at this point, considering a move back to LA (or wherever the fuck they dub at).

Edit: for clarity.
This is precisely how I feel about all of this. Nick, Ty, etc are all fuck ups and Vic's mistake was trusting grifters to get him out of a legal pinch. Now, I don't hate Nick but but I feel he has a personal responsibility here and dropped the ball hard. I hope Vic just decides to move on and stops dealing with weirdos on the internet.

If Toye and the gang were in Vic's position would you still be making the same argument?
Yes. Despite being terrible people, none of them were brought before a criminal court to answer for any crimes.
Vic wasn't, either, regardless of @Ron Toye's lies.
Oh, I wasn't aware of that.
From two weeks ago:
Adding these to the OP.

I would say Ty and team fucked up, but this trial was a comedy of errors. I don't think they are fuckups in general- people running successful businesses don't continue to do so if they are fucking up 24-7.

Nick is well down the path to lolcowdom, but that's a conversation for another thread.
