People make fun about serious matters in order to make them seen less dire, to take people the fear about what burdens them. This is a basic human behaviour, how can you call yourself an artist and don't know that? Yes, trying to downplay someone others depression by making fun of it, is usually not the best way to deal with it.

But what are people supposed to do? In 140 characters and on a public website?

No, he is not bad, he is just 'ok'. I think his biggest problem (apart from his ego and being creatively bankrupt) is, that he doesn't seem to take a step back from his art, or shows his sketches to others in order to see, if there is anything wrong before he progresses to the next step. In the end this results in nearly every of his drawings being off in some way or another.

But then, Dobson's skill is not what makes him a lolcow.

It's also rather impressive what qualifies as 'trouble' for Dobson.

It's not pedophiles sharing tons of disgusting pictures and videos, it's not that people are able to buy drugs, poison, guns and even explosives anonymously, it's not identity theft or that the governments want to know what you do on the net. It's not shit storms based on false accusations or that you can find your bank account at a plain zero one day, because you don't know about computers and clicked a wrong link. It's not even that the stupid things you've posted can come back to haunt you years later.
