Just keep in mind that he is ranting about something that happened 10 years ago.
Just imagine what he could have learned in 10 years.

I wonder how many job fairs he attended, how many advisers he talked to, how many clubs and events he went to. You get out of college what you put into college. These things just didn't 'start', they were available when my freaking parents were in college.

Really not getting the impression that he 'loved' it, he sounds like he thought it was a boring waste of time since they didn't hand him a job at Disney at the end of it.

I like his ink stuff a lot more. He should work on coloring and shading.

I think I said that earlier in this thread, but I totally agree. His inktober stuff is still crappy compared to other artists' works, but it's much better than his own comics. The biggest problem with his shading and coloring is that he's using pure black/greys to shade EVERYTHING. It looks really bad. I've always been told pure black in art is just a no no.

This reminds me of his old blog posts where he goes on and on about how that one kid is only better at animating stuff since he had some software that made it super easy. After Dobs got it himself, he stated that it took some more time to get used to than he thought and ultimately grew awefully silent about the whole issue.

Dobson is the kind of guy that will always, always blame his failure on "his tools" (ie: here it's a lack of recruiting events). He'll always think the people that are more successful have access to something that Dobson doesn't or didn't have.
The idea of (say) working on Animation in his spare time never phased him, it seems.
Dunno how it's handled in 'murrica, but I'd assume the idea behind college is to do some stuff on your own accord.

Wait, you mean... like... on his own without someone holding his hands? You maniac!

It would also be rather interesting to see how Dobby might have behaved in such events.
It's not really hard to imagine a dialogue like this:
"Well, Mr. Dobson, this portfolio looks promising, however if you want to work with us, you might have to polish those inking skills of yours..."
-"How dare you? I got [number] amounts of fans on dA and they say it's fine the way it is... I'll just be an independent webcomic artist!"

I'm way older than Dob, and there were tons of career services, job fairs, you name it at my college. I don't know what the reputation of MCAD is or was, but I know that the art schools here in Mass do all that stuff and have for the last 20 years.

Nothing is ever Dobby's fault, is it? What a crappy way to live.

Bear: "Why doesn't anyone on this convention comes over and speaks to me?! I am a professional artist! Why am I the only one who tries to approach other people?"

Guy: "Sir, you haven't approached anyone yet, also you are wearing that red button..."

Bear: "DON'T TALK TO ME! CAN'T YOU SEE MY BUTTON!?"

Última edición:
At my uni it's mandatory to take a life drawing class which includes drawing both female and male nude models in order to graduate. I would love to have seen Dobson's reaction when he realized he had to draw the dick of a brute male.

He would cry and say that he doesn't want to draw naked men.

"The first step to learning is acknowledging your own lack of knowledge. The willingness to learn is worthless if clouded by ego, which renders the mind stagnant." - Me

Though really, Dobson isn't willing to learn in the first place.

It tells me that most of his fuckup comes between lining something and painting it. I wonder if he just gets lazy when coloring or what.
He does a rush job when it comes to coloring.
He uses multiple layers but for some reason he insists on using paint bucket inside the lines within the same layer. While painting in one layer is not impossible, the way he does it is a hassle because of the jagged lineart.
Also, shading shouldn't be done with transparent black. It never really looks good.
