Trump Enslavement Syndrome - Orange man good. /r/The_Donald and any public demonstration of rabid pro-Trump enthusiasm in spite of all reason.

Democrats want EVERYONE to vote. Republicans want NOBODY to vote. That's the game.
Nuclear-tier bad take. You could get a job at Fox or CNN.

They both want you to vote, but they want you to vote for people they have curated. The people that don't vote are usually just lazy or they gave up on the system due to aforementioned curation.

The Republicans are the ones who are trying to make it harder to vote by adding in restrictions to voting and removing polling locations

Uncharitable take. The "restrictions" are logical and used in most other Democracies (voter ID and verification) and the reducton in polling locations is a mischaracterization of the issue; polling sites are being closed due to low usage and high costs, not to prevent people from voting. I disagree with the premise that a person (statistically) cannot find another place to vote at, my expectations of other people are not so low.

I do like the concept of auditable elections, which I only started hearing in public recently. That seems like a good avenue to pursue. But that is neither here nor there. As parties, neither want to restrict voting. There may be some bad actors, but that is a minority.

Not true at all. The GOP has been known to pass these restrictions then remove polling stations and also places where people can get IDs from areas of population where it's a higher likelihood to vote Democrat. In Alabama it's really bad. https://www.al.com/opinion/2017/01/as_it_turns_out_bentleys_drive.html

Red counties have no place to get a driver's license and also happen to have higher population of minorities.

I don't agree with you. But it's all good if we disagree. We probably agree on more stuff anyway. But consider that some of you guys might be in the same confirmation bias situation as our friends in Trumpworld. If the story is revealing a scenario that is exactly what you expect, it could be fake news designed to pull you in.

One word: gerrymandering

Well, that is a word.
Very good. It is also a word that today represents an almost entirely republican (and pre-VRA Democrat) activity that has long disenfranchised racial minorities and been used to protect republican incumbents.

You seem to think that restricting access to voting is a largely non-partisan activity. Please link me to some Democrat-sponsored activities that truce access to the vote.

Well, that is a word.
Yes. Yes it is. A word which means to manipulate electoral boundaries in order to favour one party over another. To provide an example, this is the Texan 2nd Congressional District. Such an unseemly abomination, not even Sykes or Picot could have come up with it. And all done so some self-righteous, knock-off Solid Snake can preach his neo-con garbage.

There is genuinely, no reason for any congressional district to look like this. Other than to ensure the GOP has a hold on this seat. Because if it didn't look like this, then they may have to actually try to win votes on policy rather than party affiliation.

Right and gerrymandering is a bad thing because both parties do it and it is unfair to the electorate. North Carolina and California would be suitable examples of both. But that doesn't respond to the points about the logic behind requiring identification to vote or the admissibility expecting people to travel some distance to cast their ballot.

I think the issues with closing down polling stations is more worthwhile a discussion than voter identification, I'll grant you that one. But even so, transit to and from one place to another isn't nearly as insurmountable as it is portrayed, excepting some cases where a peraon may be disabled and unable to reasonably travel. But then in such a case a mail-in ballot can be requested through the existong, verifiable process, solving the problem.

It doesn't seem like either party can be trusted to do the right thing and both have a long history of fraud and deception. That is why the concept of auditable elections seems very appealing to me. We should be able to make that happen with our technology. But with people making everything a political statement that seems harder and harder. I would like to see Donald Trump run on such a platform. It is an idea I heard and he seems well-positioned to run on it seeing as he won't let it go. Whether he'll put his money where his mouth is is another question though.

Sometimes we can just agree to disagree and that's okay. We'll probably have to do that here. But that's cool.

Show some Democrat gerrymandering that looks like that

The Alabama Secretary of State's office will literally come to your house to give you a free ID.

Literally Alabama as well as the whole of the United States probably has more questionable voting methods due to too many votes. Then Parliament election's in most of Europe. We don't really have a problem with voter surpresssion like it's being made out to be. Most people still feel disempowered in general because we're not allowed to have ample third parties and diversity in our politics. The emperor has no clothes with this administration. We have such a puppet administration of obvious Lobbyist's and former political leaders at this point that it's a joke.
