Is William Osman a bad person? All I heard about him was that he does engineering stuff similarly to Michael Reeves and once quit youtube due to stress or something.

All I know is that his mother is a greedy cunt, a jewess in spirit. He's just a meme zoomer redditor engineer, cringe but benign.

No, he’s not. In fact he’s been kind of screwed over by Ethan Klein. Ethan had William on the old H3 podcast for like, half a show, even though he made Ethan a beanie that vapes inspired by the old Vape Nation video and basically brought him on to talk about how his house got burned down in the 2018 Thomas Fire which upsetted him.

He also founded the Opensauce developers conference, which is set to take place again this year. He’s done a lot of impressive stuff to say the least, so no, he’s not a bad person, if anything he’s a bit unfortunate.

Why the hell is this ancient Black and Decker drill going for 77 dollars with 34 bids? Is it because a YOUTUBER touched it?

You would be lucky to get ten dollars for it from any other ordinary garage sale. The really old ones did not even have a reverse switch!

The only thing I don't like about his videos now is the kid. FFS keep the kid off yt. Also, I've been questioning how he bought a compound and has the backyard dude living on the back 40. That's weird. But I don't fault him for having his property. Should have gotten the fuck out of Cali tho...

Retarded fans are going to be retarded. He started the bidding at 1 cent and they bid it up

Oh fuck this nigger.

Damn near $30 has to be because the kiwi who looked it up is based out in bumfuck nowhere. It's normal basic USPS postage.

He's never done anything I'd consider bad. People on this site tend to be very negative and will rip someone apart over the dumbest shit sometimes, i.e. being distraught over your house burning down and asking for financial support once or twice apparently makes you a grifter.

He's not a hard core grifter, just some dude who used to laser cut wood in his room and engineer weird shit for the laughs who struggled with the downsides of being a public internet figure.

There's plenty of people worth shitting on but I never felt like William Osman was one of them.

Didn't William Osman get butthurt and quit youtube over backlash when he doxxed a dude for making a comment saying he was wrong, and catfished him with a fake job interview to confront him? I always thought he was kinda a bitch after that.

William Osman is selling a bunch of stuff on eBay, including an used raccoon tail butt plug (that probably wasn't actually used as intended but as a prop in a video) and used clothes that Michael Reeves left at his house after moving out (which includes a t-shirt with a printed ahegao loli and pizza).

Most likely posted as a bit to bring in a bit of cash. Not exactly happenings material but still an opportunity talk about him.
I used to watch him occasionally when his videos popped up way back when he had the jank DIY laser cutter and was doing sketchy projects in his living room. Some videos were genuinely funny, but the Cali fires burned down his house with all his equipment inside so he switched to "farming" content, running OpenSauce and neither of which are as interesting to watch.

Another Maker Youtuber I randomly thought about is Michael Reeves. I wonder what he is up to these days. Last I knew he moved into the OTV streamer house in LA and to date has made four videos within the past 3 years. His content is funny but I get the sense it was just a stepping stone to get out of the YT ratrace and escape Hawaii.

As an aside does anyone remember the old Canadian Schizo AvE? His old content of BOLTRs and industrial equipment teardowns were interesting but nowadays its mostly just rambling videos by the fire and others that aren't as good. I seem to remember a few years ago he bought a ranch, a massive HAAS CNC machine with all the accoutrements and then basically disappeared for a couple years. Probably living the dream in the great white North, miles from civilization which is honestly a good place to be these days.

His videos went downhill before his political sperging during COVID. You can only watch so many consumer good teardowns before its just the same slop. "I'm going to take apart this DeWalt drill. Yep, it uses sintered gears like everything else. I bet the case is glass reinforced nylon and it is. I'm now going to throw all the parts on my workbench and end the video." Some of them were even just thinly veiled attempts at writing off things as a business expense. $500 Dyson hair dryer... $300 Mitsubishi toaster...

He stopped making shit or doing things. He set up this big CNC mill just to make a fucking grill plate and an ugly copper hammer? Give me a fucking break. This is all before he starts rambling about Canadian truckers or whatever else the topic de jour is that nobody gives a fuck about. Having 1.4 million subscribers has put his head squarely up his own ass and I'm afraid its terminal.

That's a fucking channel that didn't know how to actually keep going. Holy fuck just looking at his recent content...
4 food videos. a video about his dead donkey, some overpriced socket wrench, looks like a video about some other youtube guy that died? 10 videos about random shit. Literally what you mentioned as a tool review video about an impact driver that was updated, a couple of his bullshit "knives", a fence stapler he's not even pretending wasn't just a tax write off because he didn't even unbox it for the video, some rambling about pyramids... and that's just only going back the past 3.5 months or so.

You also forgot(and I remember this from actually still watching his content a while back) about constantly putting his damned kids in videos. There's some other channels that do it, but it's usually pretty minimal like they're in the background or something. No one wants to see your damned kids, and your kids probably don't want to be on the internet.

Nothing was EVER put back together once it had marinated on the healing bench. It was a funny bit but it got kind of annoying after a while. The tax writeoff theory makes complete sense. The boomer mind virus, leaded gasoline and Brake Kleen have caused problems that are truly disastrous to the human race.

I wonder if Abom79 has been mentioned before. A while back I noticed he kept getting gifted some pretty expensive new equipment but barely used it. A few I recall were the hydraulic tapper arm, a coolant vacuum filtration unit, 3 brand new CNC machines from different companies (interestingly he has the owner on speed dial to figure out the CAM for customer jobs) and countless others. Of course, all the equipment is spotless as more recently it has only ever been used for hobby jobs and one offs.
The most recent video of his that I saw was his tour of the Starrett factory in Athol MA and it looked like a museum of old manual machines rather than a modern automated factory. In fact, the whole company was recently bought out/merged with private equity so I wonder how that will affect quality and price in the future.
Mitutoyo chads stay winning.

Would a thread dedicated to both good and bad maker/engineer/machinist/nu-engineer channels be interesting? There are some great technical channels out there and some that are complacent or inept that have fallen behind (*cough* Fireball).

Its actually very dangerous to publicly show off one's ebay account like that since Ebay's automated system will assume that their service is being used as a means of laundering money. For all Ebay knows, he could be someone selling drugs and making fake auctions in order to collect the money. Bet within a few days his Ebay account will get shut down by automated systems and they won't even let him appeal.

He doesn't owe money to the IRS (beyond what he owes for income), it was sales tax which is state by state, not federal

I don't know about every state but my state only collects sales tax on online purchases from the massive businesses like amazon, walmart, steam, etc. If you purchase from a small online retailer you're supposed to declare that when you file your state taxes and pay the sales tax on your purchases then

There wouldn't be one person calling him about sales tax from all purchases, and that person definitely wouldn't be from the IRS

99% chance it's a joke, though he does live in California and California trying to screw him wouldn't surprise me
DarksydePhil got busted for not paying or being registered for B&O tax in washington state. Not technically the same as "sales tax" but if its similar it will apply to all of his income and he'll have to go on a payment plan or whatever for the state.

I believe all YouTube income and tips and everything is supposed to have sales tax collected/put aside because he runs a "business" and he's supposed to pay that to the state and from what you're saying he hasn't (I'm not going to watch his video because I'm more important than him and don't have time to)

Abom is extremely shameless with his sponsorships. He did a whole series of videos with CRC on how much he loves huffing their aerosol products. He mentions the full product name every single time. "Now we're going to apply some CRC SP-350 Rust Inhibitor to our Milltronics ML16 CNC Lathe." Apparently all his CNC machines are on loan from the manufacturer. They took away his long bed CNC mill away because he wasn't using it right/enough for their liking. Just look at this page on his Geocities quality website, wall to wall sponsorship logos: https://abom79.com/toolcrib/

To his credit, he's still making regular content and showing you every step of the process. His latest scam is a $400 aluminum drill index and he shows every single detail of how he makes it. His CNC setups, some of the design in Fusion, problems and iterations with the anodizer, even cleaning bulk chips out of the machine. It's a stupidly priced product nobody asked for, but at least he didnt contract this out to some Chinese import outfit.

Also, his wife is 100% on Ozempic and became the kind of skinny you get when you lose weight but dont work out. Abom should try it too, since he gave up on his lapband surgery.

I don't really follow DSP but I'm pretty sure what he got busted for was attempting to classify all of his superchats, twitch tips, what-have-you's, as tax exempt gifts rather than income, so he was at times making a lot of money in that manner while paying taxes on none of it because he was misclassifying it as gifts rather than tips. I don't know specific Washington rules to know about their business taxes, I'm a sole proprietor in my state so my business's income is classified as my income unless I want to register my business as a llc or something. There's advantages and disadvantages of both but the sole proprietorship is definitely simpler which is my main concern

William Osman just collects a ton of garbage to make content with and lives in a tiny house because California so his living space gets massively cramped over time so he has to junk it to make room for more garbage from time to time.

He did almost the exact same gag a couple of years ago, just rather than taxes he didn't realize his business was supposed to make money so he was having a bankruptcy auction before moving out of his house. In that instance there was an actual problem at least, that being that his landlord found out that he was a YouTuber and didn't want the house on YouTube so he refused to renew the lease

Before that the house he was living in burned down (wildfires not YouTube shenanigans) so he joked about not having to deal with all the garbage he'd accumulated that time around
