Saturn is the Roman the god of harvest and agriculture. In Latin the root word satus means 'sowing' and satur means 'full plate' or sated and full of food. He was celebrated during a festival called Saturnalia which ran December 17-23, followed by Sol Invictus (birthday of the Unconquerable Sun) on the 25th.
The issue with Saturn arose in mythology when it was foretold that he would one day be overthrown by one of his sons so, in order to prevent that from happening he ate 5 of his newborn children.
His wife Ops successfully hid one child, Jupiter (Zeus) who tricked his father into vomiting up his siblings, (Neptune, Pluto, Juno, Ceres, and Vesta) who joined forces and the prophecy was fulfilled.
