Maybe the answer is to not use any cell phone with tech later than 2007 at all. You couldn’t convince most people, but it’s like that famous line from Wargames that everyone likes to quote. I think the only thing I’d really lose out on is not having a camera on hand and having to buy an MP3 player. Most cars have GPS nav these days and you could buy a GPS unit if you had to.

Everything else, fuck it. It’s the everything else that contributes to the rot in modern society.

Seriously, fuck the (((modern world))) and everyone who created it.

but this is totally necessary guys because people sometimes install "100% free minecraft no virus working 2025.apk" and our signature bullshit will totally prevent this
Even if that was true, how many people are realistically doing this? This sounds like a YouTube thing with the adblockers where it's just a tiny drop in a bucket in an entire ocean and they are making it a bigger deal than what it really is.

The people that work in these companies have never, not even once, put themselves in normalfags' shoes. When normalfags use their smartphone, they are 99.9% of the time using the default apps built into the phone and maybe like one or two outside apps from the app store ( mostly game related to keep themselves entertained for a bit while waiting for an appointment or something, otherwise it's something like TikTok/Instagram or other social media app ). This is just someone in corporate, either a retarded suit or marketing faggot, projecting their own stupidity onto everyone else going "... but what if?!?!", as if everyone is pushing buttons and doing things they aren't supposed to do. Not everyone is fucking grandma getting scammed by phishing emails from Uganda.

Trying to "retard-proof" everything is how we wound up in this fucking mess to begin with. Let the stupid people do their stupid shit. You can't fix stupid.

Only the McDonalds app has stricter checks, but they're so strict it has a 3 star rating on Google Play because it doesn't work on clean unrooted phones lol.
I remember it devolving from just having plain, static barcodes for deals (that got reposted in more lightweight 3rd party apps), into dynamically generated, timed, personal codes available only in the genuine app, which in itself had state of the art tampering detection and fingerprinting to prevent unauthorized people from getting $1 off combo meals.
3 out of 4 of my banking apps worked out of the box on a rooted phone, while the mcgoynald app would chimp the fuck out if I had VPN on or changed phone's MAC address.

How is Linux on phones doing? Screw "year of the Linux desktop", 2026 is going to be year of the Linux phone!

2g/3g networks have been shut down for a while, so old phones don't work anymore.

I'm sure this is sarcasm, but I'll answer anyways. The ones I found were:

Phoronix: Jolla Trying Again To Develop A New Sailfish OS Linux Smartphone (archive)
Finnish company Jolla started out 14 years ago where Nokia left off with MeeGo and developed Sailfish OS as a new Linux smartphone platform. Jolla released their first smartphone in 2013 after crowdfunding but ultimately the Sailfish OS focus the past number of years now has been offering their software stack for use on other smartphone devices. But now it seems they are trying again with a new crowd-funded smartphone.
