Youtubers using AI voices for their essay style content. Most of the time it's simply jarring to me and takes me right out of what would have otherwise been a passable video. I get that some people just aren't great speakers, but I'd rather hear an actual person with their flaws (like hearing a mush mouthed retard such as Null on MATI) instead of some shitty AI that's supposed to sound like what's supposed to be "Generic American Male Prompt #4092."

Another thing about it is that I think a lot of these people using AI for the commentary are jeets. It's especially noticeable because you can tell that they don't even bother to get someone to proofread and/or listen to their script for super obvious grammatical issues for which an actual flesh and blood native speaker would never actually say out loud (even if they're horrific with the written word.)

I clicked on one the other day that was titled "Tragic Details About Dwight Yoakam" and I presumed it would be presented by a human who was a fan of Dwight Yoakam, not an info dump by an A.I. I don't care if you're awkward or if you stutter, or whatever, if you are a genuine Dwight fan, I'm interested in hearing you speak about Dwight Yoakam. I don't need an A.I. composed essay read by a computerized voice. Dwight, to his credit, scaled WAY THE FUCK BACK on his public appearances while he was still popular to live a more private life. To me, this makes him commendable. He got in, secured his bag, set up his life and gracefully exited while on top, to pursue a bit of acting and a good work/life balance. I was interested in hearing a person talk about that. I clicked on it, listened to the first minute and decided I didn't need this shit.

Similar gripe: It's one thing when you're addressing a bunch of strangers and they say "just fucking google it" or use some passive-aggressive "here, let me google that for you" link. Strangers are not your employees. On the other hand, when you're speaking to someone you consider AT LEAST a good acquaintance, perhaps on the lower tiers of a friend, about an area they know more about than you and they snap with "jesus christ, just fucking google it." Yes, I can and do a shitload of personal research and I know how to do things without bothering anyone. I know what the modern world offers, for better or worse. I also sometimes just like to talk to human beings as a person. Not everything is an efficiency calculation. I hate when people refer others to impersonal mechanisms when it is clear that the other party is making an attempt to be personable or worse, when they cop an attitude over it. You add these resources as additional resources, not act indignant because the other party chose to talk to a person rather than read a wiki article.

Once a person has admitted error and is looking into avoiding that error in the future, there is no need for pushing the "what were you thinking?" line of dialogue.

Not helping matters is that most mistakes are made by people who were following procedure to the letter and might have missed something only momentarily. In the vast majority of errors, the person who made it wasn't thinking anything at all other than what they normally would. People who catastrophize over minor errors and faults, acting like it's the fucking end of the world because of the tiniest thing that would take 5 seconds to fix at best, are people I just can't deal with - I put up with a lot of stress as it is, and I'm not gonna have someone flipping the fuck out adding to the pile.

Thread tax: Since I noticed a discussion about speed limits a few posts ago, I'll add my own pet peeve to the mix - when you're driving at the speed limit, giving plenty of room for traffic, and the car behind starts speeding up to break the limit. That's fine, they'll just overtake and speed away, except they don't. Instead, they hang behind my car as if they're trying to climb into the boot, all while getting more and more pissed off. If you want to drive like a twat, that's fine, but just fucking do it instead of getting angry at everyone else for following the rules.

I can't fucking trust anything on youtube anymore. I love videos on niche topics but now anytime I see one I immediately am worried that it's AI produced. At least for now it's kinda obvious, like a channel that only has 1k subs but somehow has suspiciously well produced videos. I've definitely been tricked a few times, I notice it when the AI fucks up and pronounces a word completely wrong, like not even with an accent but like saying "desire" as "de-see-ray".

The "tragedy" was that he was not inducted into the Hall of Fame because a lot of music producers in Nashville are upset at him for a) his Hollywood pivot and b) leaving money on the table by not riding his career til the wheels fell off. Clickbait of that level deserves it's own grind my gears entry.

Gripe: Homeowner's insurance rates going up around 40% a year TWO YEARS IN A ROW. Did not realize until I looked at my mortgage statement today because it comes out of escrow. Talked to insurer for 45 minutes, no mistakes were made and nothing changed except general claim volume, which I can't impact. Don't worry, I got a 12.45 refund because the policy erroneously believed I didn't have a smoke detector. I left a half a percent on the table. Seriously though, shopping around.

I'd extend this to pranks in general. Growing up, various pranks were truly a rite of passage. I was on both the giving and receiving end of numerous pranks as a teen and young adult that were nothing more than good, clean, and - most importantly - harmless fun. Whether it was classmates toilet papering each other's houses, blowing out Halloween candles, fake letters making outlandish claims, or anonymous notes with coded messages - it was all stuff that was neither malicious nor harmed anyone in any sort of way and left the recipients laughing at the jocularity at best or shaking their heads in disbelief at worst.

Now, technology has rendered most pranks obsolete or impossible to successfully pull off. Additionally, people lack the creativity to pull off convincing pranks or other types of hoaxes that fool the unsuspecting (or downright gullible). Worse, some people's idea of pranks in the current era aren't funny at all and cross the line into being harmful in some sort of way.

I also agree that self-discipline seems to be lacking these days.

Adding to the YouTube comments gripes, I've always found it inappropriate and, more recently, downright offensive when people bring up a personal tragedy in the comments of a video that has nothing to do with such things. It always feels like they're using the death of a loved one or their mother's awful decline into dementia as sympathy and upvote bait.

Here, let me get the thread tax for you. This one's on me. I want to take a moment to note that I was in a similar situation with east facing windows with those chinsy thin white blinds that don't cover the whole window, let all sorts of light through and even amplify existing light by way of reflection. There were no light blocking curtains. Light blocking curtains would have saved me countless hours of agony when I was dealing with constant insomnia. Those cheap chinsy apartment default "blinds" are completely ineffective and apartments should contain light blocking options, even if not forced by law. Light blocking curtains and the appropriate fixtures are fucking cheap. I put them in my house on week fucking one.
