What's sad about that is one of the co-writers was writer of the original movie. So either it went through a lot of rewrites, or he grew to be terrible between the first and second films.
So another shitty fanfiction has come to life under Disney. How joyous... But yeah only good thing about this is that Silverman has been demoted or written out of this tainted media but at the cost of also demoting the only other decent original characters this shit had to offer and demoting the IP in its entirety to Emoji Movie levels of fail. Disney just seems determined to make all their IPs blow. Also, does Ralph just let Sugar Rush get trashed just because Sarah Silverman won't come back? What about all the dozens of npcs and kids from that world taking up space in other games? Also, wouldn't Sarah Silverman's character want her game back since being outside her own game means she could get killed? Did the movie throw its own pre-established rules out the window?Have a friendly reminder the female co-writer wrote for Gizmodo. Quality wasn't what they were looking for.
EDIT: 'Kay, looked at the link, and that's..... definitely pretty underwhelming. At least we can guarantee that Vanellope becomes a supporting character in any future installations?
I'm actually super upset that it looks like Felix and Calhoun have been demoted to supporting characters, I was looking the most to their relationship because they're so fucking adorable, even though that one page makes it look like one of those gag-inducing "lol couple babysits little kid(s) and hijinks ensure--end up desiring children of their own" fics.

Why the fuck does this make me think of HeartMob?

This plot-point has been done basically a gazillion times (and maybe it'll look impressive on a technical level), but I'm actually going to quickly sperg in that this immediately made me think of a Wreck-It Ralph fan fic called "Love Bug" where Ralph during the climax ended up getting infected by a virus (willingly), kind of became even more of a giant, and he of course went berserk and started destroying stuff. The OC love interest had to calm him down, too (mainly in helping him remember who he was by reciting the "Bad Guy Affirmation"), though it took getting her nearly killed for him to snap out of it. Then to clear the virus they had to do an emergency shutdown of the game itself with Ralph and the OC in it.
This scene looks more like a King Kong meets Akira moment anyway, but that was what popped into mind as soon as I saw this. (Far as I know, it's not the only fan fic/fan theory that involves Ralph or other characters getting infected by a virus.) So most likely it's just a coincidence, but it's still pretty uninspiring. Sorry for the sperg moment.
You got to remember, one of the co-writers probably never even watched the first film, and Johnston probably had to go along with it.

I'd say, it began when TV became a thing and companies like Hanna-Barbera and Filmation decided to begin cashing in on the popularity of live action shows (Filmation particularly). The only difference these days are the "whos" when it comes to the process, as opposed to the "hows".
Tudyk plays the search engine that was in one of the trailers. I'm also still optimistic about the movie. I doubt that a picture book is the best representation of the movie. My son has the one based off the recent Incredibles sequel and I was shocked the movie turned out as well as it did based on that.
Maybe picture books aren't the best at representing a movie and neither are trailers, considering most trailers these days for any movie is utter shit. But from what's been shown, it doesn't look like it'll be a whole lot better than Emoji Movie outside of the visual aspect (it is Disney, after all).
