Woke bands you listen to

Ethel Cain is a disgusting tranny with obvious AGP but I do like his projects and just ignore his socials. I've tried to find alternatives but no recommendations have ever felt right. Outside of Grouper it's hard to find good Southern Gothic ambient music since it's already a niche within a nice.

Because all bands write political songs from time to time. Unless they're hardcore political extremists like Chumbawamba or RATM I don't count it.

I once witnessed Chris Cornell take out a talking Bush doll on stage and he played with it. I wouldn't say he was woke for that.

NiN suffered some Bush derangement syndrome like a lot of great bands. NiN doesn’t even really deserve a mention though compared to most of the other hands listed.

If you want the good bits of RATM with much of the wokeness stripped out, Audioslave is well worth a listen (though you;ve probably known this for decades). Still a bit woke, but Chris Cornell (RIP) acted a buffer to stop politics from completely overtaking the music.

As for other woke artists I listen to... John Fogerty / CCR. A lot of people don't realise Fogerty is a raging leftist. It didn't really surface during the CCR era, but it''s definitely crept into his later work. His famous Reddit AMA (A), along with subsequent interviews confirming that he wasn't just glazing redditors with said AMA, makes it pretty obvious which way his political bread is buttered.

It seems to me like they're holding back from making a specific point and instead choosing to make songs that are applicable to really whatever. We're in an era when there's so much going on and music is failing to address it, but bands refuse to take the opening. Less effort means a worse output. Their early work is still really fucking good though.
 
Rise Against is probably the most libtard cucked "hard rock" band I can imagine. But I genuinely love their music and have since middle school after I first played Guitar Hero 3. I genuinely believe their album "Sufferer and the Witness" is one of the few albums ever where every song on it is a BANGER and worthy to be a single.

Al Jorgensen is one of the stupidest faggots on the entire planet, but the Ministry song "Antifa" is so hilariously retarded that it circles back around to being awesome.

Tax: I don't demand ideological purity from my entertainment, so I enjoy tons of bands whose politics are as stupid as a lump of dogshit.
 

Circling back to Godspeed You! Black Emperor: I've been listening to Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennae to Heaven again. For years, "Storm" was my favourite track, but I've seriously warmed up to "Sleep." Split into three parts: Murray Ostril's monologue about Coney Island for the first two minutes, Monheim from that point until like 12-13 minutes into the song, and finally Broken Windows, Locks of Love Part III.

It's specifically the final part that I would argue is the climax of the entire song, and in itself, would give anything that later post-rock bands like Russian Circles and Sleep Dealer could've come out with. Honestly? This is a nuclear take of mine, but I would argue that the song should've skipped Monheim altogether and chain Broken Windows, Locks of Love Part III immediately after Murray Ostril's monologue.

There's something kinda jarring about how you listen to this nostalgic, melancholic old geezer in 2001 reminisce about what Coney Island was like in the 20s and 30s, and then it pivots into experimental rock stuff not too long after the way that Monheim does. Broken Windows, Locks of Love Part III actually feels like it's matching the emotion in Murray's voice: the nostalgia of a time long past, the despair over things changing, the melancholy of knowing that future generations won't ever get to experience what you once had. "They don't sleep anymore on the beach" is such a powerful statement, and Monheim really took the wind out of Murray's monologue.

You wanna know the worst part? Even in Godspeed You! Black Emperor's halcyon days, they stopped performing this part of the song live shortly after Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennae to Heaven dropped! And it's like this running joke where Ephraim Menuck is like "yeah we don't do that anymore" and remaining reticent when fans ask why. FFS you pretentious SOB, give your fans a straight answer as to why you refuse to perform your band's own magnum opus!

Does the lack of Melanie Wills keep From Autumn to Ashes from performing Short Stories With Tragic Endings live?! Does Cove Reber's absence prevent Anthony Green from performing Cove-era songs whenever Saosin is touring?! Does the fact that Ben Burnley sued the fuck out of the original members of Breaking Benjamin and had to rebuild the entire band lineup from scratch prevent Breaking Benjamin from performing The Diary of Jane?!

Fucking grow a pair! Y'all are the titans and pioneers of post-rock and other long-form experimental rock music, and you're deliberately denying your fans the joy of hearing Broken Windows, Locks of Love Part III live! That's a colossal fucking dick move. Of course, deliberate pretentious artistic decisions are par for the course from a band that literally receives art funding from the Quebecois government. I should expect less from a band that made stupidly apocalyptic music during the twilight years of the USSR's dissolution and the immediate advent of PATRIOT Act-era America.

That apocalypse never happened and won't ever fucking happen, you self-righteous douchebags! Ephraim Menuck, you're like James Dean except you're the rebel without a cause who managed to avoid premature death and now you're a middle-aged man with a wife and child who never expected to get this far. Their live shows are allegedly excellent, but is the thrill of seeing and hearing Moya performed live genuinely worth the agonising frustration from hearing Murray Ostril, then Monheim, but no Broken Windows?

Probably ain't.

Its really funny when musicians get Politician Derangement Syndrome and I think Al Jorgensen had it the worst of any musician I ever saw. He straight up made whole albums about how assblasted he was at Dubya.

What groups or singer were not woke or at least not left leaning? Hank Williams Jr., Elvis, Ted Nugent, Jame Brown, Dio, Marty Robbins, Roy Buchanan, and maybe Frank Zappa, Alice Cooper, George Clinton, Jonny Rotten, Ian Anderson, and Johnny Cash most of these people are dead.
