There was a rap-rock band in the mid-2000s composed of progressive university students called Flobots. I was reminded of them listening to (((Mike Benz))) blow the whistle on USAID operations, a CIA front spending taxpayer money to assassinate/overthrow third world governments and establish puppet vassal states under the auspices of nation building and foreign aid. It reminded me of a verse off of Fight With Tools:

Out of curiosity I looked up all of those events and the only ones I couldn't find evidence of USAID involvement in were the events that predate USAID. So basically you have a Trump-era State Department employee blowing the whistle on the same unsanctioned CIA ops that liberal university students were complaining about in the mid 2000s.

I went back and listened to the full album and while it's not 1:1, the overlap between the positions and complaints of liberals in the GWB era and the positions and complaints of conservatives (working class Americans, not ZOG boomer neocons) in the Trump era is kind of bewildering: bringing the troops home from the kike-muzzy for-profit forever war, the dishonesty and disingenuousness of the press and government, criticisms of neoliberal globalization, the inundation of propaganda and the security state, distrust of the deep state and the media, and the notion that "There Is A War Going On For Your Mind". A good study in the phenomenon of conservatives simply being the liberals of decades prior.

Rare Americans. I like a lot of their music, and lyrically they’re very solid. Plus, I’ve met them and they’re nice enough. But they are a bunch of Canatards. When I went to their concert in 2025, their opening act was some suicidally empathetic crying women who spent half the time on stage moaning about how afraid she was for her tranny and illegal friends. Then when the Rare Americans got on stage they bitched about how they didn’t want to see Orange Man on the news anymore(despite the fact that he’s the fucking President of the United States).

But I still really like their music, so I guess it is what it is.

Black Emperor and A Silver Mount Zion (RIP) are pretty undeniably "woke" by what ever definition that even means, though I will admit I find myself agreeing with a select few of their takes. Though that's mostly because all of their best works were released pre-2016 before everyone lost their minds. The only notable thing having come out since then was GY!BE's "No Title As of 13 February 2024 28,340 Dead" which might be the best thing they've made post hiatus ("Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress" not withstanding)

Like a lot of artists though, I find myself wishing they didn't waste their voices and talents for things as pointless as politics, especially leftism and all the horrid stuff that means.

That said still the best music I've ever heard.

Roger Waters. His politics are what I call "being an obnoxious dickhead".

I like The Wall, and The Final Cut is my favorite PF album, but it was obviously a Waters album featuring the talents of the other band members. Him throwing a pissyfit over the remaining members using the name after he left also sours me on him a bit.

Red Hot Chili Peppers. Flea is one of the greatest bassists ever, but he's damn deep in the environmentalist crap.
Pearl Jam and Audioslave. Eddie Vedder's TDS is pretty obnoxious, and Tom Morello is Tom Morello; but god damn Ten and Audioslave's self-titled are great listens.
Body Count. Ice-T's metal band, did the song "Cop Killer" and some of their other work definitely reeks of anti-white niggershit; but they're still pretty damn heavy.
SeeYouSpaceCowboy. Frontman is a tranny, and they're all a bunch of hardcore Marxists; but their shit scratches that heavy "almost-metal" screamo itch.


Not sure if I'd consider Megaherz to be "woke" aside from this one song, but NDH is my favorite genre, and every other song on that album was a fuckin banger.

I don't listen to anything woke per se, but I used to listen to Nine Inch Nails when I was a kid. I was too young to understand the lyrics and just enjoyed the musical part of it. I grew up and now understand that more than half of Trent's songs were just commie propaganda.

Anyways, their most recent album I have listened to is [symbols] from 1997. The oldest album is What Do You Know Deutschland? from 1986. [never listened to Opium].

That's personally my cut-off since I heard Attack album was the start of political infiltration in their songs.

I don't think that it's much of an indictment against punks or rebellious figures when the "establishment" adopts their views. To quote more commie media, “Capital has the ability to subsume all critiques into itself. Even those who would critique capital end up reinforcing it instead.” Leftists didn't adopt the establishment's new talking points, the establishment adopted the old leftist talking points in order to keep more people complacent.

I'll recuse myself from talking about Silver Mount Zion but I wholeheartedly maintain that Godspeed You! Black Emperor's original run from like 97-02 is where the only stuff worth listening to exists. Even in this context... their politics were fucking insufferable. Their return from 2010-onward didn't really make them go off the deep end; they were already pretty fucking abyssal in the first place. Social media just amplified their already obnoxious takes. Fugazi was able to do the anticapitalist punk rock shtick better than Godspeed because the emphasis was always on composing and performing music. Godspeed You! Black Emperor had plenty of fantastic songs under their belt from 97-02, but I would argue that the band was way more pretentious than they needed to be.

I absolutely adore Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennae to Heaven in its entirety as an album. It's honestly the culmination of progress started in F# A# that was later refined in Slow Riot to New Zero Kanada. Having said that: songs like East Hastings, Moya, and Storm, while technically excellent, are far more pretentious than they needed to be. The composition is amazing, the sampling is excellent, the instrumentation and the buildup is amazing, the breakdowns always leave me in shivers... but it really must be said: East Hastings is like 18 minutes long, Moya is like 11 minutes long, Storm? Fucking 22 and a half minutes?! Ideally, I'd prefer to actively listen to the music I put on, but Godspeed You! Black Emperor really tests the limits of my active listening ability. Their shit is something I'd need to put on in the background while at work, otherwise I'd never be able to make a dent in their discography. Bear in mind: I cut my teeth in high school against black metal from the likes of Abigail Williams. I'm not inherently opposed to long songs. It just so happens that Godspeed You! Black Emperor demands far more patience out of me than I'm already capable of.

Fugazi at the barest of minimums didn't just talk a big game about anticapitalist rhetoric and DIY punk ethics. No, they actually live in accordance with the principles that they espouse. Yet Fugazi never once atrophied their music for the sake of pushing their politics. No, the music remained front and centre and their politics and ethics only entered the fold when the time came to distribute or perform. Even through their own label in Dischord Records, the dudes aren't opposed to people making YouTube docs or films about them provided that they aren't monetised. They all have wives, children, jobs, and lives beyond their music and their politics. Fugazi is what you get when the local punk rock band got properly successful on their own merits, yet never once let the excesses of fame get to their heads. Godspeed You! Black Emperor is what happens when ex-Yeshiva students keep trying to make grandiose, subversive works, not understanding that they graduated 20 years ago and spent the last 10 years beating a dead horse.
