Most transgender people can't have nice things because, very often, they exhibit obnoxious behaviors and a huge self-entitlement that renders any sympathy for them very difficult, if not impossible. Also, many transgenders are just people experiencing acute mental illness derived from, not from rejection from others, but from their own rejection of who they are. And, you can't legislate acceptance. On a sane society, acceptance comes from the collective understanding that something is deemed as acceptable. You can try to force acceptance through indoctrination (which is what we see on a daily basis), but it will tend to fail on the long-run.

it is a pretty accurate assessment of the playing field. The scientific findings and legal precedents in case law are so strongly in our favor in the US , that the Overton Window has shifted to where most people wish everybody would STFU about sexual orientation and gender identity. Sex isn't a spectator sport and they're sick of it constantly being in their news feeds. Most trans people want to be seen like any male or female from the belly button up and everybody we meet stop making such a big deal about our bits. Yeah, I'm more or less in the same boat as you. Without giving out exact age, I'm also pre-2000, and I find it exhausting how much the gay community has morphed and shifted over the last decade in particular. What I hate the most is the implication that wanting to just live a normal life with my partner is somehow capitulating to big heterosexuality.
