SPEC OPS THE LINE
Black & White is deep, man. The things Peter Molyneux was saying about being a shitty game designer was next level with Black & White. In Black & White the god that you control slowly changes shape depending on how you treat your villagers.
I was going to mention Mass Effect
I didn't like how a lot of the Renegade choices in the first one were presented as bad when they were the smart choices, or at worst, pragmatic.
As the series went on, Renegade just became "bad" or "jerk for no reason"
Mass Effect really sucks now that I'm not 18 and had to live real life.
I have seen fistfights because of games twice in my life; once was in poker and the other was in Monopoly.Monopoly the boardgame. Made by a childless feminist who thought owning property was evil so she made a game where the person with the most property fucks over everyone else and ruins an evening
You can even play it in browser. There’s an Ahoy documentary about an old anti-war RTS game on the Amiga called Cannon Fodder that apparently caused quite a stir when it came out:

This but replace poker with Mario Party.I have seen fistfights because of games twice in my life; once was in poker and the other was in Monopoly.
BioWare revealed themselves with most of Zaeed's missions and outcomes. They set him up as extremely experienced and qualified in an industry that has very few old soldiers. And then they constantly shit on his opinions because he was the token "actually a bad guy" on your team.I think middle of doing Zaeed's
Mass effect pits you in a grand space opera, where your choices affect the outcome of countless of species and gives you the complex moral choice if you want the final cutscene to be blue red or green.

Yeah the "bad" ending of KOTOR for instance was dumb. Why not Battle Meditate both sides into the dirt? Never made sense, especially with the strong overtones from characters such as Solo and Tarkin that really have no time for the Force.BioWare's retarded concept of moral dichotomy predates Mass Effect by a lot. Neverwinter Nights and Knights of the Old Republic both have the save the whole world vs burn a truckload of puppies type decisions, which - in case you want to chalk those up to D&D/Star Wars having overly simplified concepts of good and evil - continues into Jade Empire, the game they made just before Mass Effect. the original Baldur's Gate games have some retarded morality too but they come off as a lot less self-serious IMO given that the game's commentary on your actions comes through your party members, who are largely deranged lunatics like Khalid or Minsc
I think one of the biggest fuckups they pulled with Mass Effect was showing you which decision was paragon and which was renegade, and never seriously punishing players for their choices. You can safely and brainlessly pick the top right blue dialogue choice every single time and never suffer any consequences for it even when you really should. It removes any thought from the whole fucking process.I was going to mention Mass Effect

I saw a guy say once that, after Undertale, every game needed to provide a good reason for you to have to kill enemies. Not the original moralfag, but I'm surprised Undertale hasn't been mentioned. It is really the most obnoxious one while having double standarts. You kill, you're a monster, they kill, it's for their salvation.
Possibly unpopular counterpoint...that's one of the few decisions I do remember from Mass Effect because I am always insufferably goody-goody in games, and it was hard to accept having to make the obvious right choice in that case and kill the Rachni Queen. When 98% of the decisions are brainless, the last 2% are memorable.I think one of the biggest fuckups they pulled with Mass Effect was showing you which decision was paragon and which was renegade, and never seriously punishing players for their choices. The Rachni Queen is a good example of this. What absolute dumbass would let the queen live? They caused a war so bad the Salarians had to uplift the Krogans just to deal with it. But nope, hurr durr blue equals good pick blue and whaddya know you found the one good Rachni and they come in and help you in Mass Effect 3.
I don't know, as a mostly renegade player I feel that sacrificing a few wagies to kill the head of a borderline terrorist organisation(technically mercs) to be perfectly in line with what it represents. Of course they do paint it in a negative light with it mostly just being to please Zaeed.BioWare revealed themselves with most of Zaeed's missions and outcomes. Even though he was simply a jackass that likes the idea of coming home after work.
The problem is that Vido is never ever mentioned outside of Zaeed's DLC content so in the end it really does feel like you killed hundreds and accomplished nothing. It's botched execution through and through.I feel that sacrificing a few wagies to kill the head of a borderline terrorist organisation(technically mercs) to be perfectly in line with what it represents.
