What they've taken from us

I think part of the issue, or maybe the whole issue, is that it seems like no studio wants to take risks. Most movies today don't have much soul because of that.
The risk is much smaller than they think. Give the guys an lots of action, and give the women handsome, shirtless men, and you'll make your money back. Sure, it'll just be an action flick and not Citizen Kane, but it will make money.

There’s irony to the amount of risk that successful movies take. Action movies tend to do well because they’re mindless and fun, but if the industry overproduces and makes every movie like that, on top of adding in ‘woke mess’ the industry as a whole suffers. Screenwriters living in California don’t have their fingers on the pulse of our culture as much as they think they do.
no, they do not

But on the other hand, they're so disconnected from everything else that it's kinda wild how arrogant they can get

I watch “Heat” every few months cause it’s my favorite movie. Could not be made today.

This movie is such a filter that if you have the slightest bit of testosterone, then you “get it” meanwhile women are just like, “the guns are too loud!”

Unapologetic guy movie.

This is from a review of the movie Waterloo by History Buffs:

The movie scene where the English are in the square formations while the French cavalry rides past are breathtaking. Even more so when you realize that every dot on the screen is an actual human being who has been trained to move in formation. We will never get a film like this again. When Ridley Scott made his egregious version of Napolean, he used CG and filters to make something that didn't even look 100th as good as the film made 50 years ago.

Also, I fucking HATE filters and movies that have to make everything look dark and washed out so they can slap a bunch of effects/filmed elements together. I miss the days when movies had contrast and color. Imagine what a movie like Vertigo would look like today if every scene had looked like someone had poured shoe polish all over it.
