What is it with white chicks and the Olive Garden?

I used to work there. I got to see someone propose there. Even a server (it was all gender-neutral job titles) was like "At an Olive Garden?".

I guess it's because it seems "fancy" while being accessible.

I think people have been hitting all the reasons well, one not brought up is that white women are extremely susceptible to marketing. I believe it's the most commercialized Italian restaurant.

To expand on the soup and breadsticks, women, and waspy white women especially, LOVE to pretend to eat healthy. They go, they have a moderately to not healthy salad, act like it was a healthy thing when they carb and fat loaded before hand with bread and soup.

That a glass of wine is considered traditional with an Italian meal is also a convenient excuse to boose helps too.

Olive Garden is trash, their breadsticks are little Caesars quality. If you want to go to a chain Italian restaurant, go to Zio's. You get an actually little mini loaf of warm bread AND herb and oil for dipping. Every entree I've had there(like 3 in 10 years, I have lots of locally owned Italian options in my area) is an unquestionable step up from the occasional Olive Garden I've had to go to.

White chick here, and not a fan of Olive Garden. (which I've always called THE Olive Garden, did it used to have a "the" in front of it?) If I'm having mainstream chain Italian I'd much prefer Bucca Di Beppo or Old Spaghetti Factory, hell, even Romano's Macaroni Grill is better. I think the appeal for most white women is that they have wine, you can have wine at lunch there and not seem like an alcoholic in front of your friends, and they're everywhere, easier to find than a nice little charcuterie spot or something like that.

Waitwaitwait. There's more than one Old Spaghetti Factory? You learn something new every day. I do love Buca Di Beppo but it's always more food than I can eat at once and the closest is too far to go to on a regular basis. Olive Garden is meh. Everything is fine and it's easy to come by. It's the Starbucks of Italian food chains.

Also, I can drink wine wheneverI want because I'm an adult.

Better than Olive Garden, and their bread is better. Plus a waiter sang a bit of opera one time, so the class level was over 9000.

I don't think Romano's is a thing in my particular city anymore. We had one close to me once upon a time and it was *plot twist* replaced with an Olive Garden.

I ate at one specific olive garden a few times as a kid. Only really went there for like family gatherings or shit and I remember it was ok. With how people talk about it in current year it makes me wonder if it fell as far as Dennys did.

It’s a bit of exaggeration, at least on my end. It’s decent enough, you’ll do a lot better finding an authentic Italian place, but it’s ok for what it is. People just like to make fun of the sort who act like it’s gourmet cuisine.

No way in hell. Besides, Denny's didn't even fall that far: their breakfasts are pretty tasty.

Well most food in rome isnt good. they only make one good dish in rome, its by far the best Pasta dish, but its so fucking basic that you can make it drunk at home with everyday stuff...
Its bacon(they use fancy one), egg and cheese.
If you want real good italian food, you need to go south and pay good money or go to croatia or northern europe.

It’s decent enough, you’ll do a lot better finding an authentic Italian place, but it’s ok for what it is. People just like to make fun of the sort who act like it’s gourmet cuisine.

Italian food is never fancy or gourmet. An authentic Italian restaurant is a good and cheap way to feed your relatives. you can get decent food and drink for 20€ per person in most mom and pop italian restaurants.
