What is it with white chicks and the Olive Garden?

Fun fact, when I was young and stupid I thought that Olive Garden was a legitimately fancy high-end restaurant. Our closest one was 45 minutes away so it felt like a big deal to go there, and it was often with extended family when they came to visit. They also had tablecloths AND cloth napkins so you know that's some 5 star gourmet shit.

I always did find it funny that for a place called Olive Garden they only give you like, 2 olives in the salad.

Before they started selling it in stores, my aunt used to buy it from the restaurant in these fancy glass bottles, it was awesome. They made nice vases for a couple of flowers after the dressing was gone.

I go to Olive Garden sometimes because it's the cheapest restaurant in the part of town it's in, and I never touch any of their pasta or anything. It's all about the salad. Sometimes one or two breadsticks, but they've gotten super salty lately and I'm really just all about the salad.

You probably have pretty shit restaurants in your town if Olive Garden tops any of those lists. Hell, around here during COVID, Fuddruckers, Applebee's, and Red Lobster all left, despite being once rather trendy options 15-20 years ago or so. (Being Texas, the lockdowns weren't severe, and those were the highest-profile casualties). Olive Garden didn't close but it's not commanding the same crowds it used to.

Every time i've been to Olive Garden (rarely by choice) the service sucked, the minestrone was flat, and the bread stopped at precisely one set of two sad sticks. Come the fuck on.

I don’t know, I only know that my own opinion is that Russel Greer took his hooker “date” there and didn’t even get laid afterwards. That’s probably all you need to know.

It is easy (and delicious) to replicate using an online recipe. It’s seriously like oil, Mayo, vinegar, cheese, and some other basic spices. I make it from time to time.

I've been there once and won't ever go there again unless pushed.

Haven't been to an Olive Garden in a long damn time, it's nothing fancy or impressive from what I remember. They apparently were so inefficiently ran that someone had to professionally inform them that they should salt the water for their pasta.

The only reason I can think of picking that place is because the food is pretty inoffensive.

On topic though, I have no clue what the deal is with Olive Garden. We have multiple Italian restaurants where I live owned by actual Italian people who's sole purpose in life is to make you explode from all the food they serve you. Yet most people, my family included, would rather have soup, salad, and fucking bread sticks from Olive Garden.

As far as Olive Garden goes, that's a name I've not even thought about in forever. I doubt I'd enjoy it, it's in the same category as Applebee's or Chili's for "okay but meh sit down restaurant". I also have a local Italian restaurant near me that's amazing and it's garlic butter rolls are 10x what OG's breadsticks are so I'm good.

Applebee’s- the restaurant I will go to once a year for a free meal (Veteran’s Day), and otherwise would prefer anything else.

I never experienced that with white chicks probably because I'm from a very heavily WOP populated area with a lot of options for Italian food. You are generally regarded as a cheapskate if you take a date to Olive Garden. Black girls, however, consider Olive Garden fine Italian dining. It always was chapped my ass a little when I would ask a darky gal pal where they want to eat and the response was "I'm in the mood for Eyetalian. How about Olive Garden?"
