For the curious, here are two good books on the history of Gnosticism you could read online.

Everything I've seen in gnosticism tends to hold Christ in high reverence as the key figure and teacher.
Neo-Gnostic types refer to Christ as a luminary or prophet and almost never as the messiah. In ancient Gnostic texts, he is only sometimes incarnated in the flesh through the Holy Spirit and each account of how this happens varies between sects. Some Gnostics like Cerinthus were adoptionists who believed Jesus only became ‘the Christ’ upon his baptism because the Christ-Aeon descended upon him and left his body upon crucifixion.

It’s not enough that Jesus is just another prophet and teacher. It has always been essential to the Christian faith that God bridges the chasm between Himself and humanity by incarnating in the flesh and being sacrificed for our sins as the ancient Jews would an animal.

Christianity presupposes that the universe was once perfect, is no longer perfect, but can and will one day become perfect again. To a Gnostic, the universe was always rotten, will always be rotten and the only way to save it is to abandon the chaos through exclusive, esoteric means that hylics normies are spiritually disallowed to pursue.

>from a hostile source
@VisaMallgoth is one of the few people in this thread who "gets it".
You're literally contributing to a "hostile source" when you write this. In 2000 years when people try to research 20th and 21st century satanism, when they peel back the papyrus hard drives of st. joshua moon out of oxyrhynchus 2.0, they'll have to contend with the 764 thread telling them that it's not all roses and pleromas about that religion...

A biased source will express differences in framing and the language used about a topic, but it won't necessarily deviate from factual recordings about it. I.e. a furry community won't necessarily deny they jack off to dogs, but a biased and polemically anti-furfag community will say they jack off to dogs and are disgusting faggots for it. Similarly, an abusive religious community won't explicitly say "we've got bitches-on-bitches in our sex dungeons out in the desert" like the book of Mormon fails to mention, but the FLDS still exists.

Similarly, the church fathers say that it's not good that these people drug and rape women, and the gnostics fail to mention that little detail explicitly in nag hammadi, but at the end of the day, their notion of divine syzygy makes for a good excuse to have a sex cult, and their whole "we're divine beings with secret knowledge" setup seems like a really convenient way to form a totalitarian cult of personality...which is exactly what the fathers, even though they say they're disgusting faggots for it, pretty directly describe in saying that the leaders of these cults like simon magus and marcus the magician hoe around with their female consorts who play the role of goddess-syzygy pairings to the god-king leaders of these religions.

Gnosticism is a nihilistic mental illness. The churches were right to stomp it out of existence because all it leads to is trooned out anti-life garbage that subverts and destroys everything around it. It's become clear in the last few years, in full secular and theistic form, that all the witch hunts, crusades, and heresy crushing was a necessary evil to prune the weeds of nihilistic freaks from the population before they can destroy society. Gnosticism even being discussed again is just a symptom of that black rot of the soul.

You do know that El =/= Yahweh (El-Elyon/El-Shaddai who wasn't introduced until Exodus) and "Elohim" is always plural? Did you also know that in polytheistic canaanite religion (which judaism is based on) "Belial" wasn't an evil God? He was a weather God that was killed by Mot (the god of death). El is the father of Yahweh. Also, look into "Bene Elohim". They were the fallen angels who interbred with humans in the OT and created the nephilim. The NT God and OT God are separate. You worship a baby killer. Jesus once said that Satan was a murderer from the beginning. He was never an angel in God's kingdom. "Lucifer" is a mistranslation from Isaiah 14. Yahweh is Marduk. In Hosea 13, Yahweh is described as a lion, leopard and bear while the beast of Revelation 13 is described as a lion, leopard and bear. Sethians who worship Yahweh worship the donkey, because "Yahweh" has a name in Paleo-Hebrew it is pronounced "yah-oh" which souneded like a donkey to Egyptians who said "yay-oh" for the sound of a donkey (see Moses and his donkeys). Sethians were part of the original OT tradition. They worshipped Adam & Eve's third son Seth after Cain slew Abel, who is Set from Egyptian religion. That was one of Yahweh's earthly incarnations. Also, Jews are the children of Yaldabaoth and the Archons (Annunaki bloodline). That's why Jesus told them they were of their father the devil. Christianity is paganism.

There are some who claimed to have had near death experiences (NDEs) or out-of-body experiences (OBEs) that "confirm" Gnostic stuff. Stuff like there's evil beings who trick the spirits of those who have passed away to reincarnate by luring them down that tunnel, with that light at the end. Such a belief claims such evil beings feed on suffering of mortals. And that the way to avoid said trap is to ask the true God for escape from the physical universe run by a lesser evil god, after passing away, and before tunnel.

The people who believe in that sort of stuff may also claim that the following clip from Star Trek: Voyager is about such a soul trap:

"SOUL TRAP DISCLOSURE - Startrek Voyagers episode with Jane & Alien pretending to be her Father"

transcript because of that soy ''Video unavailable Watch on YouTube'' BS dijo:
[Mess hall]

JANEWAY: [...] You're an alien. You've created all these hallucinations, haven't you?
ADMIRAL: This is what my species does. At the moment just before death one of us comes to help you understand what's happening, to make the crossing over an occasion of joy.
JANEWAY: And what is that?
(The bright light tunnel growing behind him.)
ADMIRAL: Our Matrix, where your consciousness will live. I was being truthful when I said it was a place of wonder. It can be whatever you want it to be.
JANEWAY: Then why didn't you tell me this from the beginning? Why pretend to be my father.
ADMIRAL: Usually people are comforted to see their loved ones. It makes the crossing over a much less fearful occasion. I've done this many times, but I've never encountered someone so resistant.

[Planet surface]

EMH: Something's happened. The alien presence is getting stronger again.
CHAKOTAY: Fight it, Kathryn, just a little longer.
EMH: I'll have to try a thoron pulse.

[Mess hall]

JANEWAY: My people are telling me to fight. They're trying to save me.
ADMIRAL: They're trying out of desperation. It's hopeless.
JANEWAY: You're the one who sounds desperate. I don't get the feeling you're trying to make me comfortable. You're only interested in my agreeing to come with you.
ADMIRAL: Because it's inevitable.
JANEWAY: And you don't strike me as any type of Good Samaritan. You're more like a vulture, preying on people at the moment of their death when they're at their most vulnerable.
ADMIRAL: I've waited for you. I've been patient.
JANEWAY: But your patience is wearing thin. What's the real reason you want me in that Matrix? Somehow I don't think it has anything to do with everlasting joy.
ADMIRAL: You must go with me.
JANEWAY: If you could force me to go, you'd have done it already. You need me to agree, don't you? I have to go voluntarily.
ADMIRAL: Wouldn't that be better than standing here in this endless debate?
JANEWAY: Let me tell you this. We can stand here for all eternity and I will never choose to go with you.
ADMIRAL: You're in a dangerous profession, Captain. You face death everyday. There'll be another time, and I'll be waiting. Eventually you'll come into my Matrix and you will nourish me for a long, long time.
JANEWAY: Go back to hell, coward.

There is no trap. Technically, there never was a trap.

There were plenty of tricks, but no traps..and there are no longer any tricks, either.

The ideas of worship requirements, needing to be saved (and the associated rituals), shaming/guilting, Samsara, Karma, reincarnation, divine punishment or judgement, beings having authority over you in any form (Archons, gods in whatever iteration, so-called demons, etc) and so on, were all tricks. Not one of them is a trap. Not one of them is a requirement. Not one of them are True.

And the beauty of something being True is that no earthly body of authority or dogma or belief can ever take that away from you..

..unless you choose to give it away yourself. Be still and know. Much love, frens.
