Like when it was her mother's pack fine, that's the pack of an adult used to that kinda thing, but her own? Molly Mcgee made the same mistake. In the episode a period piece that annoying little streamer Andrea davenport flat out asked of molly had tampons for a girl who just got her first one. like wth I'm an xy chromosome carrier who's had only brothers my whole life and even I KNOW, you do not immediately jump on the tampon bandwagon for a first period. And just because of the implications you mentioned but because first timers are susceptible to toxic shock there were lawsuits against tampons because of a lot of cases of that years ago. You'd think the self proclaimed "feminists" writing this garbage would know that.

Ps. May I ask why evey time turning red is brought up in this thread it turns into a discussion on menstruation in western animation?
Dunno if beginners are inherently more sensitive to toxic shock as much as theyre just more prone to user error (and I think the main type of tampon causing it stopped getting produced altogether), but first periods are also often just too dry to put a tampon in without a ton of pain bc most dont bleed that much yet the first few times... Pads are just inherently easier, more comfortable and less invasive for first timers, especially when theyre not even at their own house, so the fact that something else is even considered is baffling. Garbage tier educational content.

I watched All The Cats Join In the other day so it hits a little weirder since it's basically the same cartoon but not
True! We get a quick taste of that!

I think there’s a reason periods are never mentioned in cartoons for kids and teens, even in those with a full female cast, or with female main characters.

Even if we can safely assume teenage girls on cartoons do have them. Sure it might be in part because men writers just don’t think about them. But it’s just a topic that requires tact and maturity that most cartons for kids just can’t afford to. Not without feeling out of place that is.

Could Teen Titans Go make a serious episode about periods? I doubt it.

I would argue it’s also a topic preteen boys are just not ready for.

Unless it’s hidden under a heavy dose of metaphor, like Turning red, so it flies over boys and kids too immature to think about it, for the 15 years, and younger demographic, it’s best to let parents, and even schools (if they are not insane), to discuss it with the proper time, care, and tact it needs.

Just let kids have fun about their favorite cartoon girls being spies, witches or what have you.

Of course, if it’s a show for adults, like King of the Hill, or even kids in their late teens, you can have more leeway.

trying to think of anime that addresses THAT DAY and I can think of Slayers and Gunbuster
I think that's because menstruation is, frankly, not that important and no less weird or unsanitary than any other bodily change brought on by puberty. Puberty as a whole kinda sucks, focusing on that one very small aspect of it to the point where you've put it on a pedestal is backwards and reductive to writing a good story when puberty as a whole makes a much better allegory and leaves you much more leeway to tell an actually good story.
