Just use hook grip like nature intended. Fucking hell, you lot don't even lift that heavy.

Yes it hurts at first. Get used to it, just like everything else.
I still have to hold the bar so I still use my forearms, just not enough to get them on fire, even if my lifts are mid.
With all due respect, might I ask what's the difference between bad and good lifting straps? I've been using a cheap pair for a while and they work fine
No idea really, I was lookin for those cheapo canvas wraps like these:

But I could only find this type:

I used the cheapo ones at the gym since there's a pair laying around there and were pretty effective, but I wanted to get my own pair.

All in all, a pretty good buy.

I generally hate dudes who complicate shit early doors - the best exercise program is the one you'll do, after all - but Starting Strength is grim as fuck if you're 35+. It's so, so, soooo grinding, you end up spending more time recuperating from injury than actually lifting.

As someone that did it as a 35+, that's not true. My biggest regret with it is not doing it as a 15 year old instead of the silly bodybuilding style programming shit I fucked around with off and on for years.

All you need is six feet of climbing webbing cut into two equal pieces then tie each piece into a loop with some athletic tape. Just a few bucks and you have straps stronger than anything you'll ever come close to lifting.

You train your grip, like everything else. If you want to use hook grip, that may mean pulling less than your 1RM for a bit. You'd be surprised how quickly one's grip gets stronger.

As for straps, I highly recommend Versa Gripps Pro. I've had a pair that I've used consistently (RDLs, mainly) for over 11 years. Well worth the cost.

That's the thing - I am training my grip. Rows, pull-ups, everything else I can do just fine. I do my warm-up sets reasonably comfortable, but by the 4th-5th set my forearms are on fire and usually my form starts failing. It only happens to me with deadlifts.

Hafthor has recently put out a vid who deals with hook grip.

Yea it's gonna get better over time, but I somehow have more patience for getting better at pull-ups than dealing with my grip.

Finally got back up to a 135 bench. Last time I benched 95 for 3 sets of 8. That was a month ago. This time I did 65x10 (supposed to be a warmup but was too light), 95x8, 115x8, 115x8, and 135x5. I prefer dumbbell bench, but it was nice to see progress.

(This is all freedom units, not metric)
So, you're a woman?

Re: lifting straps.
I use ones similar to these, not so much to compensate for grip strength but more to protect my palms from the knurling on my trap bar.

I deadlifted three sets of 6 x 180kg with these on Friday. It was a.... Good Friday....

Greyskull LP is a similar routine, but with much better fatigue management and is much less likely to turn you into a dummy thicc T-Rex via excessive squatting.

I disagree. If you start when your older, not only will you have already learned to keep your pride in check so you won’t be as prone to injuries but, you will also have a lot less wear and tear on your joints.

So, yesterday I saw with my own eyes, a fuckboi walking around the gym with a DSLR and a tripod, recording himself doing exercises. I, of course, gave him the stink eye when I walked past him when I arrived at the gym. I only thought these things were gym meme territory but looks like it's real. 😩

And another thing that I saw yesterday that really rustled my jimmies, was the plates spread all over the squat rack floor, like there was an explosion and almost none of the plates were re-racked like they should.

Those are the gym rules on one of Thailand's biggest gyms, and I wholeheartedly agree with rule #1. Re-rack your dumbbells/plates or GTFO. It's not so complicated, people.

It pisses me off so FUCKING MUCH when people leave the plates on the floor, even if they do the bare minimum and don't rerack properly, for example putting the 20kgs on the highest rung instead of the lowest, there are a lot of short women, myself included at our gym, I have seen some of the smaller ladies get dangerously close to hurting themselves trying to take them off the rack to get to a 10kg or 5kg plate.

He might not have been doing it for SM. For example I often use my phone to record my Worksets in an effort to improve my form. Given that I don't have access to a personal trainer, and never had any formal coaching, recording myself is a way to help me improve.

Well, I'm nearly 45, and my biggest issues are consistency and form. I can't seem to get down low enough on my squats, and no matter what I do I can't seem to keep my back straight during deadlifts. But its still early days and I am making progress.

People need to have respect for others. Always rerack and wipe down equipment after you use it. Be mindful of other people at the gym. Should be the number one rule at any gym.
