Admech as a rival for necrons makes perfect sense. Aledari are largely extinct for one reason or another and arent in the business of raiding tombworlds en mass anymore. Imagine being woken up by a jeet trying to run your pockets and tell me you'll give a shit about the german because you fought them 70 years ago.

I believe the origins of the Ethereals keep changing. At first, it was implied to be a thing done by the Eldar. Later it was the Dark Eldar, and then I was told that one writer implied daemons were behind, somehow.
I remember the Xenology lore book from decades ago had a section on the Tau. One of the notes states there is a crystalline object embedded in the skulls of ethereals. The author notes similarities to an organ found in the Q'Orl, a powerful insectoid race with a hive mind that has a hate boner for the Eldar after they stole one of their queens. Big HMMMMMM.

Lore is OOOOLD like the book and a lot of it is up for debate but it's fun. Crystal mind control Tau is fun.

And I just found out my copy of the book is worth hundreds of dollars nowadays but this shit is priceless.

The best answer is to the ethereal question is probably a combination of theories. Ethereals know that you can't mind control a galaxy spanning empire. There aren't enough of them, and they don't like sharing authority. Persuasion is their first tactic, then threats. As a last resort there likely is some sort of mind-control or pheromone that can force compliance. The problem is they still have to make sure the rest of the empire isn't aware that they can.

Farsight told the supreme ethereal to his face to go fuck himself. If Aun'va had the ability to force compliance he absolutely would of. It would have been obvious what he did, and it would have pissed off the rest of the ethereals who wouldn't appreciate him exposing their best kept secret. It's probably a trick they only use in times of crisis where there is no time for a big speech and they just need everyone to cooperate.

It is worth noting a lot of the high technology in 30k is still producible in vast quantities by the admech but 10 millenia of straight up Neverending conflicts has led them to produce cheaper equipment to serve the calculus of war. Is this the correct path? (No, probably not as operation barbarossa and the special needs operation show) plenty of space marine chapters would love to still have a few stormbirds for their hardest drop zones i'm sure.
I could make weapon 1 that costs 100 resource to make, or i can make weapon 2 that costs 20 resource and is 50% as good as weapon 1

When the bickering, pettiness and stubbornness gets in the way of Imperium factions, they go with weapon 2 because they still come out ahead for the tithes and can keep weapon 1 for themself.

This is why if the Imperium were ever to 'win' 40k, they only need about 10 mins to get their shit together but the biggest enemy to the Imperium is the Imperium itself.

The Imperium not conquering mars and forcing the tech priests to truly fold into the imperium properly is still one of those post Horus Heresy things that I will never understand. Like you said their worst enemy is themselves and the factions they've allowed pseudo independence

hey, if the inquisition still exists
imagine founding an organization that spends more time infighting and committing the exact crime they were supposed to root out

Although to my knowledge only one of them has ever "fallen" in an obscure videogame.
You guys are still in denial about Farsight huh?

They could give a handful to the Imperial Guard.
I've always believed the Mechanicus is happy to ensure the "rest of" the Imperium has good enough tech to handle the xenos but nothing that could ever match them, even on paper. It's why the Knight Houses exist for example, they're a way for the AdMech to fulfil their obligations to arm humanity but without having to actually give away something useful like a Titan.

So more proof GW doesn't know or care about their own lore. Their justification for saying the Steel Legion wasn't in the Yarrick trailer was because huge majority of them had been wiped out. They represent a fraction of the fighting force yada yada.

But now in the new lore book they say the Steel Legion is at 55% strength.Ver archivo adjunto 9210562

It's less that they don't know their own lore I guess and more that the Writers are still dog shit with numbers. Because assuming the Steel Legion had a fighting population of say a million men fighting on their home planet, which that still feels low mind you, they'd be fighting with a force of 450,000 men. That's still a shit ton of men.

France in WW1 had 2 million men on the Western front consistently throughout the war, so the Steel Legion, fighting on their home planet would have way more than just a million which is my lowbrow estimate. They'd probably have most of the planets population fighting, so why weren't they in the trailer James? It's almost as if you forgot about them and wanted to push more Cadians and Krieg.
who cares about the steel legion the fucking jopall indentured mentioned in a modern codex is kek

but its a classic case of lore guys not being the model guys not being the animation guys

Decided to just say fuck it and grab some stuff to finish off my Ork army. Pretty much went "this looks rad" and grabbed it

This is the way.

I take breaks from batch painting to paint models that look cool. Warp Spiders? Sure. Lucius? Love it. Next is Kroyle but thats also a bit of a challenge. Paint cool shit and eventually youll gave an army.
